Violet met her older cousin, Coraline at the edge of the forest. "Here's the stuff Vye. Remember what your mother said, ok?" Coraline says as she hands Violet a backpack of supplies. "I will, Cora. Thank you," Violet replies. "Just remember that the land of no color is also called no kingdom terf. You won't be protected by your kingdom, Vye," Coraline warns.
"I know, but mother said that all the prophecies are connected. If I'm right on this, all the prophecies have to come true before Purple's can" Violet says, "and plus, it's the easiest way to travel between kingdoms" Violet added. Coraline laughs softly, "good thing I put books about other kingdoms in there, you'll need them!" Coraline said.
"Anyway, I have to get goin'. Or I'll be renamed." Violet says before running deeper into the forest. She hides behind trees and dodges the guards. Until she finally makes it out of the forest and into the land of no color. She sees the brick trail, along with a map of the nearby kingdoms.
If I follow this to the green map, I'll know to go across the world to the Red Kingdom. On foot. Great, Violet thought before hearing footsteps behind her. Did the guards already find her?
But no, it was Coraline with a horse in tow. "Violet," Coraline breathed before continuing, "I know you have to go on this journey to prove yourself or something but, I'm the ambassador of the Pink Kingdom. I know how to travel between kingdoms. I can help you reach the Red Kingdom." "Really Cora? You would come with me?" Violet asked, in disbelief. "Yes. Plus, I'm eighteen and you're fifteen. You need me, little cuz." Coraline said.
"Then let's go," Violet says. The cousins walk miles, chatting and looking for danger. By nightfall, the girls had made it to the border between the Primary and Secondary Empires, but they stopped to rest and sit down, not knowing that the whole Purple Kingdom was looking for Violet.
As they sit, Violet looks at the barrier and asks, "Cora? How do we go into the Primary Empire?" Coraline summons her spell book, or grimoire. "I'll do the spell of break, the Breakishiti," Coraline said as she started to perform the spell.
"Be careful, Cora. That looks po-" Violet starts but is cut off.
Coraline whispers the spell quickly. The star shaped pink gem in her scepter glowing with a bright pink color, her eyes glowing with that same light. Her blush pink hair floating slightly as she continues to recite the incantation as the barrier trembles slightly as the spell reaches its high. A doorway breaks in the barrier as Coraline's voice gets louder, letting Violet hear what she's saying.
"Break it quick, break it now, break this barrier down! Do it quick, do it fast, don't make this barrier last! Open up, open tall, open quiet, open now!" Coraline repeated that sentence over and over again, causing the doorway to form completely.
Violet goes in first, bringing the horse and the backpack with her. Next, Coraline walks through as the spell ends, causing the doorway in the barrier to close up. "We did it, Violet," Coraline says, smiling. They sit down, the horse laying at their feet.
"Hey Cora?" Violet asked suddenly. "Yeah Vye, what is it?" Coraline asked, curious. "If you're in a prophecy, does that make you more powerful than Iris?" Violet asked.
"Of course not! Iris is the most powerful woman alive. Well aside from Millie and Iridiana." Coraline answered. "You mean Millie Metallic? The queen of the Metallic Kingdom, sister to the Rainbow twins?" Violet asked, in awe.
"Yeah, she's the best swordsmith in history, and can beat anyone in a battle" Coraline says, "but the most amazing part is that she's the same age as your sister, Indy."
Violet's eyes darken at the name of her sister. "Coraline, you know we don't speak that name, not since that day," Violet says, her voice shaking slightly.
"You're right, cuz. I'm sorry," Coraline says apologetically. There was an unspoken silence between the cousins. Slowly but surely they fall asleep, unaware of their surroundings.
In the morning, a multi-colored sunrise rose, causing the girls to awaken early. Coraline wakes up first, just to see that they had been captured by Yellow Kingdom guards. Violet wakes soon after, from being tied up in the most uncomfortable and scratchy rope. "Who are you?" Coraline called out.
Guard one answered "Shut up, blood trader." Guard two chuckles, "I wonder how the Princess of Yellow will react to this catch."
Coraline can tell that she's being held by Guard one from his ugly hair. While Violet's being carried by Guard two, who has her tied in the most uncomfortable rope. And poor Guard three has to drag the horse, who is still asleep and the backpack with like a gazillion books. Coraline may or may not have enchanted it to be bottomless. "Damn. . . What in the seven kingdoms of color is in this bag? The Palace of Yellow or something?" Guard three mutters.
They walk for half an hour or so, with Coraline demanding answers and Violet being slightly confused. "Why are you guys capturing us? We didn't do anything wrong," Violet says. The guards laugh. Why are these bastards laughing? My question wasn't a joke! Violet thought. "We're capturing you guys because one of you has a bounty in three different kingdoms, and the other is a runaway bride. The royals will love this" guard two says as they reach the gates of the Yellow Kingdom.
