Chapter LXXXIV: Castle on the Hill, Part 1
With their final academic year winding down, Toshiro decides it's time for some memorable experiences. He approaches the Class Representative, his girlfriend, with a grin on his face.
"You know, we should make the most of our time left here," Toshiro says.
"What do you think about shooting a film or a music video? And maybe a road trip?"
The Class Rep looks at him thoughtfully.
"That sounds like a lot of fun. But which one should we choose?"
Toshiro shrugs, his eyes twinkling with excitement.
"Why not do all of them? We can film during the road trip."
After a moment of consideration, the Class Rep smiles and nods.
"Alright, let's do it. I'll notify the class."
The next day, the Class Rep announces their plan.
"Attention, everyone! This Saturday, we're going on a road trip, and we're going to shoot a music video. Be prepared for an unforgettable day!"
Saturday arrives, and the class gathers early in the morning, buzzing with anticipation. A shuttle waits to take them on their adventure. The students pile in, chatting excitedly about the day ahead. As the shuttle sets off, Asahi pulls out his speaker.
"Let's start this trip right," he says, hitting play on a song by an English singer with orange hair. The bus erupts in cheers as everyone starts singing along.
The road winds through scenic routes, with zigzag turns and stretches that offer breathtaking views. They cross a grand bridge that spans a magnificent river, its waters shimmering in the sunlight.
"This is amazing!" Akiko exclaims, leaning against Kota.
"I can't believe we're actually doing this."
Kota smiles, wrapping an arm around her.
"Me neither. It's going to be a great day."
Eventually, they arrive at a grand river view-deck. The scene is stunning, with lush green mountains and valleys stretching as far as the eye can see. The students disembark, taking in the fresh air and the beauty around them.
"This place is incredible," Enmei says, looking around in awe.
As the students explore, Gin and Kota wander off, searching for food. As they walk, they notice something strange about the stones scattered around.
"Look at these stones," Gin says, picking one up. "They're cracked and layered."
"Weathering," Kota observes. "Must be the climate here."
The Class Rep gathers everyone together.
"Alright, everyone! Here's the plan: we're going to shoot a music video. Let's make it fun and memorable!"
The students cheer and begin organizing themselves. Some prepare props and costumes, while others discuss choreography and filming angles. The energy is high as they get ready to create something special.
As the filming starts, the students immerse themselves in the project. They dance, laugh, and climb the hilly road leading up to the view-deck, capturing moments of joy and friendship. The stunning backdrop adds a magical touch to the video.
"Action!" Toshiro calls out, holding the camera steady. The students begin their performance, moving in sync to the music.
"Come on, Kota, don't be shy!" Akiko teases, pulling him into the frame.
Kota laughs, joining the dance.
"Alright, alright. Let's do this."
The music video progresses smoothly, with each student contributing their unique flair. Asahi, with his boundless energy, takes the lead in several scenes, his infectious enthusiasm keeping everyone's spirits high.
"This is going to be epic," Gin says, grinning as he watches the playback on Toshiro's camera.
As the day continues, the class makes the most of their time at the view-deck. They take group photos, share snacks, and explore the area. The camaraderie and joy are palpable, creating memories they'll cherish forever.
In between takes, the students relax and enjoy the scenery. Kota and Gin sit on a rock, munching on sandwiches.
"Can you believe this is our last year?" Gin asks, looking out at the mountains.
"No, it feels surreal," Kota replies.
"But I'm glad we're gonna end it with something like this. The memories, the fun, and flaws. I hope nothing bad will happen"
The Class Rep and Toshiro walk over, smiling.
"How's the food?" she asks.
"Delicious," Kota says, offering her a sandwich. "You guys did a great job organizing this."
"Thanks," Toshiro says, sitting down beside them.
"I just wanted us to have something special to remember."
As the sun begins its descent, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, the class gathers at the edge of the view-deck. The breathtaking scenery provides the perfect backdrop for a moment of reflection and camaraderie. The squad sits together, enjoying the warmth of the setting sun and the cool breeze that carries the scent of nature.
"Wow, this is beautiful," Hanako says, her eyes wide with awe.
"Yeah, it's like a painting," Enmei adds, snapping a few photos with his phone.
Toshiro, the ever-thoughtful leader, looks around at his friends.
"You know, it's moments like these that make me realize how lucky we are to have each other. We've had so many crazy and fun times this year."
Kota nods in agreement, glancing at Akiko beside him.
"Remember that time we all went to the mall and got mistaken for a family?"
Akiko giggles.
"Oh yeah, and we played along with it. That was hilarious."
Gin, ever the joker, grins.
"Or the time we all got lost trying to find that new karaoke place. We ended up singing in a random park instead."
"Don't remind me," Tengen groans, but he's smiling.
"I still have dirt in my shoes from that night."
The squad laughs, the memories flooding back. They sit in companionable silence for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts.
Hanako breaks the silence, her voice soft.
"It's been a good year. A lot of ups and downs, but we've had each other."
"That's what matters," Asahi agrees, taking a sip from his iced coffee.
"It's been one heck of a ride."
Natsuki, sitting next to Asahi, smiles wistfully.
"I'm glad we've shared these times together. They're memories I'll cherish forever."
Akiko turns to Kota, her eyes shimmering in the fading light.
"And you, Kota. You've been my rock through it all. I'm grateful for every moment we've spent together."
Kota squeezes her hand.
"I feel the same way, Akiko. We've all grown so much, and I wouldn't trade these memories for anything."
As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a final golden glow over the landscape, the students fall silent, taking in the beauty of the moment. It's a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing every second.
Toshiro stands up, brushing off his jeans.
"Alright, everyone. Let's make a promise to keep making memories like these. Even after we leave this school, let's stay in touch and continue to support each other."
The squad agrees, nodding and exchanging smiles. They stand together, arms around each other's shoulders, watching the last sliver of sun disappear.
"We've had our share of troubles too," Kota says, his voice thoughtful.
"But those moments have made us stronger."
Gin chuckles.
"Like when we almost got in trouble for sneaking into the lab after hours?"
"And the time we pulled an all-nighter to finish that group project," Enmei adds.
"Or when we had that huge misunderstanding with Eloise," Akiko says, her tone more serious.
"But we worked through it."
The squad nods, each recalling their own challenges and triumphs. They know that their journey hasn't always been easy, but it's the struggles that have brought them closer together.
As they start to head back to the shuttle, Kota lingers for a moment, looking back at the view-deck. He feels a deep sense of gratitude for his friends and the experiences they've shared.
"Hey, Kota," Akiko calls, holding out her hand.
"Coming?"
Kota smiles, taking her hand and catching up with the group. They pile back into the shuttle, the atmosphere lighter and filled with a sense of accomplishment.
On the ride back, Asahi's speaker plays a soft, nostalgic tune. The students are quieter now, lost in their thoughts and the gentle sway of the shuttle. They pass by the grand bridge once more, its lights twinkling in the dusk.
As they near the school, Toshiro speaks up. "Thank you all for today. It's been unforgettable."
"Agreed," Enmei says, looking around at his friends. "Here's to more adventures."
"Here, here!" The squad echoes, lifting imaginary glasses in a toast.
When they finally arrive back at school, the students disembark, their hearts full and spirits high. They say their goodbyes, each heading home with a smile on their face.
As Kota walks Akiko home, they talk about their favorite moments from the day.
"I think my favorite part was the sunset," Akiko says. "It was just so perfect."
"Mine too," Kota agrees. "It felt like the perfect ending to an amazing day."
They stop in front of Akiko's house, and Kota leans in, kissing her softly.
"Goodnight, Akiko. I love you."
"I love you too, Kota," she replies, hugging him tightly. "Thank you for today."
Kota watches as she goes inside, then heads home, feeling content and grateful. He knows that no matter what the future holds, they'll always have this day and the memories they've created together.
Back at his house, Kota sits at his desk, pulling out a notebook. He starts to write, capturing the day's events and his feelings. It's a habit he's picked up over the years, a way to remember the moments that matter most.
As he finishes, he looks out the window at the night sky, a sense of peace settling over him. This year has been one of growth, challenges, and unforgettable experiences. And he knows that with his friends by his side, the future will be just as bright.
With a final, satisfied sigh, Kota closes the notebook and heads to bed, ready for whatever adventures tomorrow may bring.
