I stared at my reflection in the mirror, smoothing down the front of my sleek black blazer. A different woman looked back at me now – confident, determined, powerful. Not the shy, bespectacled girl who had once roamed these university halls with her head down.
"Are you sure about this?" Orion's deep voice echoed through my phone speaker.
"I need to do this," I replied firmly, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "That book might be the answer I've been looking for."
I could almost hear his frown through the phone. "The Storm Crest Pack has extensive libraries on wolf lore. I could have someone search—"
"This is something I need to do myself," I interrupted. "Besides, I know exactly where to look."
After a pause, he sighed. "Just be careful, Elara. Knight territory isn't safe for you anymore."
A chill ran through me at the mention of Rhys. "I'll be in and out before anyone notices."
"Call me when you're done," Orion instructed, his protective Alpha tone slipping through.
