Chapter 18 - Study and Cultivation

The Seven Treasures Glazed Tile School's library was nothing short of vast and comprehensive, containing books on astronomy, geography, soul beast encyclopedias, differences among martial souls, and even the richest collection of herb-related texts on the entire Douluo Continent. In fact, the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile School was also one of the largest medicinal herb merchants on the continent.

Every morning, Yang Xiong would rapidly browse through various books in the library, with a particular interest in herbs and self-created soul skills.

Surprisingly, there were indeed a few records regarding immortal herbs. Though the information was vague, quite a few names did appear.

The most prominent among them was undoubtedly the Delicate Immortal Chrysanthemum, which had the most detailed description of all the immortal herbs.

It was widely known that the Delicate Immortal Chrysanthemum was the martial soul of Chrysanthemum Douluo from the Spirit Hall, the only plant-type Title Douluo on the continent. His martial soul was far from ordinary.

Moreover, since the Spirit Hall and the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile School were mortal enemies, the latter had gone to great lengths to uncover weaknesses in Chrysanthemum Douluo's martial soul, which made the information on the Delicate Immortal Chrysanthemum, relatively complete.

In addition, some of the older books mentioned other immortal herbs such as the Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid, Lovesick Heartbroken Red, and Fragrant Delicate Immortal Product. There was even a detailed description of the Fragrant Golden Chrysanthemum.

The Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid was considered a top-tier species of orchid, and many people on the Douluo Continent were orchid enthusiasts, so it had been relatively well documented.

The Fragrant Delicate Immortal Product also had a thorough record, after all, it was an herb the Breaking Clan had spent generations searching for across the continent. They would not have overlooked the widely informed Seven Treasures Glazed Tile School.

The Fragrant Golden Chrysanthemum was found on a very ancient piece of beast hide, which appeared worn and archaic. It was even stored on the seventh floor of the library, clearly showing how highly the sect valued it.

Still, even in these ancient texts, the descriptions of immortal herbs were quite limited, nowhere near as detailed and comprehensive as the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record, written by Tang San. But for Yang Xiong, the information was already very helpful.

Among all the immortal herbs, what Yang Xiong truly cared about was the Fragrant Delicate Immortal Product. As long as he could find a corresponding image, it would be enough, after all, that herb was the ultimate guarantee of his safety.

Besides herb knowledge, Yang Xiong also read countless examples of self-created soul skills. However, he found that most of them weren't particularly effective for him. That was because many self-created skills were designed based on specific martial souls, and without the matching martial soul, they were practically useless, just like the Dragon Transformation technique of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon family, which had no effect unless used by a dragon-type martial soul.

That said, Yang Xiong did study the Seven Kill Sword Technique for a while. His father's martial soul was an iron sword, and Yang Xiong often asked his father for advice on hand-to-hand techniques. He had some understanding of swordsmanship and even practiced it a bit himself, though he ultimately didn't pursue it deeply because his martial soul was incompatible.

Yang Xiong had been pondering for some time: since the soul skills of the Body Martial Soul were unleashed through the body, they had relatively less variation and could be easily analyzed and countered by opponents. That's why, even ten thousand years later, the Body Sect had an iron rule: soul skills were not to be revealed unless absolutely necessary.

But as a soul master, if one didn't use soul skills, the gap in battle power compared to others would be far too large. Whether beast souls or tool souls, both provided powerful enhancements. Solely relying on physical strength made the Body Martial Soul seem lacking.

After much thought, Yang Xiong concluded that he must develop at least one self-created soul skilll, something to help in regular battles.

Creating a soul skill, however, was no easy task. And Yang Xiong didn't want to spend too much time on it either, as this was the golden period for cultivation.

In the original work, Feng Xiaotian had innate full soul power but fell behind the Spirit Hall's Golden Generation because he became too obsessed with developing his self-created soul skill. Despite being older than them and having access to abundant resources as a direct disciple of the Divine Wind Academy, he became known as the "shame of innate full soul power."

After much deliberation, Yang Xiong came up with an idea. Reflecting on his knowledge from both past and present lives, he realized that the Rasengan from Naruto was the most cost-effective and straightforward technique. Conceptually, it wasn't complicated, chakra in Naruto was akin to soul power in the Douluo world, and the Rasengan had tremendous potential for later development.

Yang Xiong already planned to absorb soul rings with the five elemental attributes metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. If he could eventually inject these elements into the Rasengan, its power would be terrifying, perhaps even transformative.

Elements naturally had connections and oppositions, so bringing them together could be unstable. But if done successfully, the resulting power could increase exponentially, just like a certain emperor's ultimate move.

More importantly, Yang Xiong believed that the Rasengan was well-suited to his Body Martial Soul. Since his martial soul couldn't be summoned separately, his control over soul power would need to be even more flexible and refined. Once elemental energy was added in the future, any side effects could also be offset by the strength of his own body.

Once Yang Xiong committed to developing the Rasengan, he added it to his daily training routine in the afternoons, alongside extreme physical training. He only spent one to two hours per day on it so it wouldn't interfere with his main cultivation.

However, creating the Rasengan turned out to be even harder than he had anticipated. At present, Yang Xiong was just an ordinary soul master, at the bottom of the hierarchy, without enough control over soul power.

After days of effort, he could only gather a small amount of soul power in his palm, which would quickly disperse into the air. He couldn't even use it in combat, let alone shape it into a proper technique.

Worse still, when he tried to inject water into the technique, either directly or using a water-filled balloon, the water either dispersed immediately or caused the balloon to burst. There was no sign of stabilization at all.

Yang Xiong realized a huge problem: he had been overly optimistic. The Rasengan was originally developed using the flow of wind-element energy, which involved rapidly rotating wind energy in the palm to form a concentrated attack.

But Yang Xiong had only absorbed one space-attribute soul ring so far, and space was considered the most mysterious and hardest to master among all elements. With his current power, even beginning to control it was next to impossible.

Moreover, the Rasengan demanded precise control over soul power, it had to move like an extension of one's body. It required high levels of both soul and spiritual power. By the current standards of the soul master world, Yang Xiong was still far from reaching that level of control.

After researching for three months straight, even Yang Xiong began to lose confidence. He started to feel the Rasengan was simply too far out of reach. He even considered changing his cultivation plan and using a wind-attribute soul ring for his second ring instead.

But then, something happened that gave Yang Xiong a spark of hope.
