Rawr!!
The night wolf growled and charged right at Wise. As the wolves approached him, each second bringing him closer to an unfortunate end— Wise let go of Taryn, coating her in a barrier or shadows.
"Give me five minutes…" He said, just as the last shadow covered the barrier, leaving a very anxious Taryn covered in darkness.
Woosh!
Wise suddenly disappeared, appearing a second later at the other side of the arena.
'This will take a little getting used to.'
He was using the shadows beneath his feet to accelerate his movements.
A wolf materialized by his side, its wide open maw dripping saliva. Wise blinked from that spot, appearing behind the wolf instantly.
He grabbed the tail of the beast and pulled it, slamming the wolf to the ground with an intensity that caused the earth to cave.
The hole that was dug by its body was soon filled with its blood but Wise was not there to see it.
He was cutting through the arena at breakneck speeds, he felt the wind sending his hair in disarray and his muscles heating up from the speed.
Boom!
Wise appeared right in front of a wolf, delivering a thunderous kick to its stomach. The wolf whimpered, its eyes popping out and blood spewed out of its mouth, just before its body was tossed high up into the air.
It nearly touched the barrier above…
As Wise watched the wolf land, producing a sickening crunch, two wolves climbed out of the darkness behind him and lunged.
The first one went for his neck, while the other grabbed his leg with its maw and bit down, pinning him in place.
Wise's human form was not nearly as durable as his dragonic form and so his blood began to stain his trousers.
As the second wolf nearly reached his neck, Wise waved his hand and the shadows below it exploded forward, forming sharp spikes that pierced through the wolf, hanging its body like meat on a stick.
A shadowy whip then slammed against the head of the other wolf— the one that had his leg between its teeth.
The wolf's grip lessened as the monster staggered back in pain.
Unsheathing his dagger Wise charged at the beast, plunging his blade right between its eyes.
Whoosh!
Something grabbed onto his shoulders and Wise found himself speeding through the air, the two Alphas below him.
The two beasts opened their maw and suddenly began to suck large volumes of air around into their throats.
'Shit, a sound attack?!'
To counter their attack, Wise began waving his hands in the air, bending the shadows to his will.
The alphas roared, unleashing a soul wrenching howl. The air rippled, an invisible wave distorting the world as it charged towards Wise—
But before it could make contact, a pillar of shadows rose from the ground and pushed him out of the way— tendrils emerged from the bulk, wrapping around his torso and forcefully pulling him down.
Whoosh!
Before the alphas could react, Wise split the first one's hind legs at the tendon causing the beast to collapse to the floor.
The other alpha lunged at him, but the shadows embraced Wise, tossing him right at the injured alpha.
Clang!
Teeth rang against steel creating a ringing sound that spread through the arena.
Wise gritted his teeth at the sight before him. He was mere moments away from sending the first Alpha to hell when two wolves suddenly leaped at him.
One of his daggers was locked in the maw of one of them while the other wolf slashed forward aiming to catch him while in mid air.
But that was not all, Wise turned around just in time to see the uninjured Alpha leap right at him with a force that defied nature.
All the other wolves were also charging behind it, their gazes burning with contempt.
For a second Wise almost used his fire, but instead, he let go of the dagger in the beast's maw.
And then he took a deep breath and concentrated.
Wise felt ecstatic, years after awakening in this world he had been in several fights but never had he ever been pushed to the point of almost using his true Draconic powers.
Not even the profane mockingbird had pushed him far and it was stronger than the night wolves.
They had played the numbers game, used the night to their advantage and had managed to push him this far.
Wise smiled.
That was then something that he had watched some time ago in an anime came to mind.
"Stand proud night wolves!"
His smile broadened and a crazed look appeared in his eyes.
"You are strong!"
There were no shadows in the air— but that didn't mean he was without their aid.
The shadows in the ears of the beasts, the shadows in their maws, the shadows that went as deep as their gut.
Wise closed his eyes and channeled them all.
And then he clasped his hands together, forming a miniature shadow that would serve as their core—
Then he extended it, drawing the shadows until he formed a colossal obsidian blade, one capable of ripping the earth in half.
Wise was not a master so he could only hold that form for a few seconds, but that was more than enough.
"Vanish."
The crowd stood at the edge of their seats. The whole arena was deathly silent, even the announcer who always had a thing or two to say watched the match so closely that he almost fell from the stage.
Below the arena, the old man— Stanley's partner watched the fight with an unreadable expression. His hand gripped his staff tightly and his eyebrows knitted together in a complicated manner.
Beside him, Stanley's mouth was wide open as he watched the fight in awe.
Daphne was still in a state of shock, she had never seen anyone wield shadows with such devious creativity.
Freya was smiling proudly while Esme seemed overwhelmed.
The queen gripped her throne with so much force that her armrest shattered, her fingers began to bleed and the attendants scrambled frantically, concern in their eyes.
But the queen never took her eyes off the stage.
Aofie on the other hand was smiling wide as she watched the man she now wanted to fight the most.
Everyone stared as though in a trance.
They all watched as the skies seemed to part, as the air trembled, as the wolves howled—
And everything was put asunder.
