Chapter 23 - Federation Research Institute, Gu Ming

The top floor of the main building, the Council meeting hall of the academy.

The metal long table in the center of the meeting hall was already full of people, mostly elders. Dean Xu Lin sat in the main seat.

There was also a white-haired old man sitting beside him. From their seating arrangement, it was clear that the old man's status was no less than Xu Lin's.

In fact, the old man's status was not just not inferior, but surpassed Xu Lin's.

His name was Gu Ming. He was the former dean of the Sun Moon Royal Academy, the current dean of the Federation Research Institute, and one of the core members of the Federation Council. He held a crucial position in the Federation and was the kind of big shot who could make the Federation tremble with a stomp of his foot.

Dean Xu Lin had to respectfully call him "teacher." If it weren't for Gu Ming's insistence, Xu Lin wouldn't even dare to sit side-by-side with him.

Twelve people sat on each side of the table, all sitting upright with serious expressions. Even those who were usually jovial had restrained themselves.

In front of Gu Ming, they dared not act presumptuously, both out of fear of his status and respect for an elder.

This was because many people here were either students taught by Gu Ming or students of his students. No one had a higher seniority than Gu Ming.

Yun Ze and Gu Yue Na's positions were also interesting. They were next to Gu Ming, with Yun Ze next to Gu Ming and Gu Yue Na next to Yun Ze.

Both of them were sitting on chairs that were temporarily added. From their seating positions, one could see how much importance Gu Ming placed on them.

At this moment, the Soul Tool screen opposite the conference table was showing a battle, which was the previous fight between Yun Ze and Long Chen.

The screen stopped, and the large meeting hall fell into silence. Everyone's eyes were focused on Yun Ze.

Shock, admiration, and relief were expressed on everyone's faces. The video had given them quite a shock.

"Good, good, good!" Gu Ming was the first to break the silence, exclaiming "good" three times and standing up excitedly.

As he stood up, the others quickly rose as well, not daring to remain seated.

Yun Ze and Gu Yue Na could only stand up reluctantly. Since everyone else was standing, they couldn't possibly remain seated, could they?

Although they really didn't want to stand up, they had no choice. The situation demanded it, and they had to maintain appearances.

"Good child," Gu Ming looked at Yun Ze, patted his shoulder, and smiled, the wrinkles on his face squeezing together like withered tree bark.

He was now over two hundred years old, his body was hunched, his white hair was sparse, and his body was full of the marks left by time.

His wrinkled face wasn't particularly attractive when he smiled, but it wasn't off-putting either. He was kind, benevolent, and very gentle.

Yun Ze smiled slightly and said nothing.

"Everyone, please sit down," Gu Ming gestured with his left hand, indicating for everyone to sit down. Only after he sat down did the others follow suit.

"Child, are you willing to be my student? The kind who formally acknowledges me as their teacher," Gu Ming asked with anticipation in his eyes.

"I already have a teacher, so I cannot acknowledge you as my teacher again," Yun Ze refused.

Gu Yue Na added, "Elder Gu, when Yun Ze's teacher accepted him as a disciple, he made him promise not to acknowledge anyone else as his teacher."

His refusal caused these council members and Dean Xu Lin to frown. This was a bit tactless. One should know that many people begged to be Elder Gu's student, but he wouldn't accept them. Yet now, he had taken the initiative to accept a student, only to be refused. How much face did that cost Elder Gu?

Gu Ming didn't speak, so even though these people were somewhat dissatisfied with Yun Ze's refusal, they didn't dare to speak casually. "Is that so..." A deep disappointment flashed in Gu Ming's eyes, and his old face looked a little lonely. He sighed and said, "It seems we are not destined to be teacher and student. Since you have already acknowledged a teacher, just pretend I didn't say what I just said."

"Although you cannot acknowledge me as your teacher, if you have anything you don't understand about Soul Tools in the future, you can still come and ask me."

"Thank you," Yun Ze thanked him politely. Although he wouldn't ask in the future, it was still the other party's good intention, so saying thank you was appropriate. "En," Gu Ming patted Yun Ze's hand with satisfaction and said with emotion, "I originally wanted to invite you to join the Federation Research Institute."

"But after seeing this video, I dismissed that idea. Your talent shouldn't be entirely focused on Soul Tools. Cultivating both is more suitable for you."

"From now on, study hard at the academy. The academy will cultivate you vigorously."

"Thank you," Yun Ze thanked again.

"Mm," Gu Ming smiled and nodded. After talking with Yun Ze for a while longer, he had them leave first.

After Yun Ze and Gu Yue Na left, Gu Ming gestured to Xu Lin beside him and said, "Little Xu, tell us about Yun Ze's situation."

"Yes," Xu Lin respectfully replied and began to report the information they had gathered.

In such a short time, he had basically figured out Yun Ze's situation. His intelligence gathering ability was undeniably strong.

Of course, this information was also intentionally revealed by Yun Ze and the others, not hidden, for others to see.

"Let's hear your respective opinions," Xu Lin said.

"From a hidden family, cultivating such a person won't necessarily benefit the academy. Investing a large amount of resources in him, I think it's a bit uneconomical."

"I have the same view. Cultivating someone from a hidden family might end up being a wasted effort, gaining nothing."

"I disagree. I think this child is quite good. If we cultivate him, he will definitely remember this favor and won't be ungrateful."

"Moreover, a child with such talent is bound to become a peerless expert in the future. Regardless of whether he remembers the academy's kindness later, he will still be a member of the Sun Moon Royal Academy, and that's enough."

"When he grows to surpass Yun Ming, our academy's reputation will be a notch above Shrek Academy."

"Old Wang is right, this child is definitely worth cultivating..." The Council members spoke up one after another, their opinions divided.

"Alright," Gu Ming lightly called out, and the Council members instantly fell silent.

"Little Xu, tell us your opinion."

"Yes," Xu Lin stood up, looked around, and said, "I am quite optimistic about this child. I think he is good and worth our full effort to cultivate."

"I also agree to vigorously cultivate this child," Gu Ming also stated his position.

With Gu Ming stating his position, there was basically no need for further discussion. This matter was already decided.

After leaving the conference room, Yun Ze and Gu Yue Na walked directly out of the academy and returned to the hotel to rest.

On the bustling street illuminated by neon lights, the two walked leisurely, chatting intermittently.

"Oh right, my teacher Leng Yaozhu has come to Mingdu. She will be staying in Mingdu for a few days. Do you want to go see her?" Gu Yue Na asked.

"She's your teacher, why would I go see her?" Yun Ze chuckled.

"Her coming to Mingdu is actually somewhat related to you," Gu Yue Na smiled sweetly, keeping him in suspense.

"Related to me?" Yun Ze thought for a moment and said, "Did Star Moon City report my awakening situation to her?"
