Chapter 63 - Chapter 63: A New Beginning.

The morning sun rose slowly over the quiet neighborhood, bathing the tiny courtyard in soft light. The sound of chirping birds announced a new chapter for Zaria Londa Johnson. Today was the day she would take a giant step toward a brighter future. After years of pain and neglect, she was going to school — and not just any school. Orbit International High School.

Inside the house, Angela busied herself folding freshly pressed uniforms. New, crisp blouses and a neatly pleated skirt lay arranged across the bed. Polished black shoes and long socks stood beside a brand-new suitcase. The room, once sparsely adorned, now brimmed with life and promise.

"Are you excited?" Angela asked, brushing a hand across Zaria's shoulder as she watched the girl trace the Orbit High School emblem stitched into the fabric of her shirt.

Zaria smiled shyly, brushing the threads as if making sure it was real. "Excited… and a little scared," she confessed. "I've never been to a big school like this. Will the other girls like me?"

Angela sank to her knees, holding Zaria's hands in hers. "My dear Zaria, you have a heart that shines brighter than the stars. They will like you. And more than that, you'll have teachers and friends who will support you every step of the way."

A sound of a car horn announced Sally's arrival. The tall man stepped into the room, a proud smile spreading across his face as he watched Zaria in her new uniform.

"Look at you," he said softly, brushing a hand across the top of her head. "My little girl is going to Orbit International High School. You have no idea how proud I am of you."

Zaria blushed, brushing at the hem of her shirt. "Thank you, Uncle Sally. I don't know how to thank you for all this…"

Sally sank down to one knee, putting himself at eye level with her. "You don't have to thank me, Zaria. The best way you can thank me is by working hard, doing your best, and knowing that you deserve this chance. You're worth every effort, every prayer, every dollar spent. Never forget that."

Zaria's eyes brimmed with tears as she wrapped her arms around him. "I won't forget," she promised.

Angela smiled as she watched the scene unfold, brushing away a quiet tear herself. "We're all so proud of you, Zaria," she said, brushing the girl's hair from her face. "God gave you a second chance, and we'll be here every step of the way."

A Letter to Linda

Later that afternoon, as the house settled into quiet, Zaria pulled a piece of paper and a pen from her new school bag. She settled down at the small desk by the window, the soft afternoon sun pouring across the page.

With a deep breath, she began to write:

> Dear Linda,

I hope this letter finds you well. It feels like forever since we last talked, and I miss you every day. You were the sister I never had, the one person who refused to walk away when the world felt too dark. I will never forget your kindness, or how you stood by my side when no one else would.

Linda, so much has happened. You wouldn't believe it if I tried to tell you. The man you've probably heard about — Mr. Sally Raymond — came into my life like an angel. He found me when I was broken and brought me out of a very dark place. He gave me a chance to live, and to dream again. Thanks to him and Nurse Angela, I am about to start a new chapter.

I'm going to school again, Linda. Not just any school, but Orbit International High School. The name itself feels too big for a girl like me, doesn't it? Sometimes I wonder if this is all a dream. But it's real. My bed is ready. My books are packed. My uniform is crisp and pressed. Mr. Sally paid for everything — my school fees, my books, my shoes, and even a new bag. And Angel (Nurse Angela) is making sure I have a warm and loving home to return to every Holidays.

Linda, I remember when we used to sit under the jacaranda tree after class, sharing half of whatever lunch we had. We would talk about the future — about how one day things would be better. Do you remember? Those moments gave me strength. They gave me a reason to hope. And now, by some miracle, that hopeful future has arrived.

I pray every night for you, Linda. I pray that you are safe, that you have people who love and protect you. One day, I hope we can reunite. One day, I want to introduce you to Mr. Sally and Angel, so you can see the people who gave me a second chance at life. You deserve kindness too, my sister.

Thank you for being my best friend when I had nothing. Thank you for reminding me that I was worth loving, worth knowing. Whatever the future holds for me, I will carry your friendship with me — like a lamp that shines in the dark.

Until we meet again, stay strong, Linda. Stay hopeful. Stay the beautiful, loving person I have always known you to be.

With all my love and a heart full of gratitude, Zaria

With a shaking hand, Zaria set down the pen and pressed the paper to her chest. A warm sense of belonging bubbled inside her. Whatever lay ahead, she knew she had a chance — a chance to rise, to learn, and to live.

A New Journey Dawns

That evening, Sally and Angela walked Zaria to the gates of Orbit International High School. The gates rose tall and proud, a symbol of a new chapter about to be written. Zaria stood between the two people who had changed her life, looking up at the imposing building, and then back at their smiling faces.

"Are you ready?" Sally asked, brushing a hand across her shoulder.

Zaria smiled through misty eyes. "Yes. More than ready."

"Then go," Angela encouraged. "Go, and make us proud. But more than that, make yourself proud. This is your chance, Zaria."

With a deep breath and a beating heart, Zaria stepped forward. The gates opened, and she crossed the threshold. The courtyard was filled with laughter and bustling students, a world of possibility that felt almost unreal.

Behind her, Sally waved, and Angela pressed a hand to her heart, whispering a prayer of thanks. Together, they watched as the girl who had been abandoned, broken, and left to die stepped boldly into a future she was about to claim.

In that moment, as the gates closed and Zaria disappeared into the bustling courtyard, it felt like a miracle — a new chapter for a girl who had refused to be defeated by the cruelty of the world.

A chapter of belonging. A chapter of promise.
