Truth be told, Vincent Fox's plan wasn't all that complicated.
His chosen mission was to kill zombies.
The more he killed, the greater the rewards.
However…
Right now, the only corpse close to zombification was Old Master Ren.
Just one zombie wouldn't be enough not for both him and Autumn Summer to benefit.
Which meant…
Vincent needed to create zombies.
Lots of them.
He was going to use Old Master Ren's infected corpse to spread the virus, turn others into zombies, and then unleash carnage.
It was a bold plan.
One that toed the line of morality, maybe even crossed it.
It was, in a word, inhumane.
But Vincent had limits. He wouldn't harm innocent civilians.
Even if this Forbidden Zone would eventually reset, he wasn't the kind of man who operated without a bottom line.
Fortunately, this world's setting mirrored a time when the Eastern nation of Xia was being invaded by Western colonial powers.
Most foreigners here had blood on their hands brutal crimes against the people of the East.
So Vincent's target?
Those Westerners.
He was going to release Old Master Ren into foreign territories and let those countries become playgrounds for the undead.
As for the risk of those zombies turning against him?
Not a chance.
Vincent was absolutely confident.
If the movie Mr. Vampire was any indication, then so-called "super-strength" zombies were actually manageable.
With the power he possessed now…
He could probably smack a zombie into calling him daddy.
Meanwhile, Damon Lawson, Elias Vale, and the others were operating under a similar strategy.
The difference?
Vincent still had a moral boundary he planned to unleash horror only on foreign aggressors.
But Damon and the rest? Who knew where their line was.
…
"Vincent, there's a village up ahead."
Autumn Summer pointed toward the distance.
By now, night had begun to fall.
The two of them had finally made it out of the mountains before dark, dragging the coffin along, and spotted a settlement.
Following her gaze, Vincent saw the village. Wisps of smoke curled from many chimneys families preparing their evening meals.
Seeing the fatigue on Autumn's face, Vincent said, "Let's head in. We'll spend the night here."
Autumn nodded without hesitation.
After walking all afternoon, her stamina was running low.
Endurance was tied directly to one's constitution.
When rewards were distributed after Forbidden Zone #2, Autumn hadn't invested in physique upgrades.
So physically, she was still like an ordinary girl.
Glancing at Vincent, who looked as calm and composed as ever, without the slightest hint of exhaustion, she was stunned.
She didn't know exactly how heavy the coffin was.
But at a minimum, it had to be several hundred pounds.
Yet Vincent had carried it all the way without breaking a sweat. That kind of strength and stamina was absurd.
Autumn was deeply curious about him.
But…
She was also sensible.
If someone didn't want to reveal their secrets, she wouldn't pry. That was part of her wisdom.
…
As they entered the village, a few locals quickly blocked their path.
That coffin made everyone uneasy.
"Who are you? What business do you have in our village?"
A burly man, likely the village head, eyed them warily.
Vincent gently set the coffin down and smiled warmly. "Hey there, big brother. We're from Hunan Province. This is my wife."
Hearing Vincent refer to her as his wife, Autumn instantly blushed.
Vincent continued, "The person in the coffin is an elder who passed away. His last wish was to be buried in his hometown, so we're bringing him back to fulfill it. But it's getting dark, and the roads aren't safe at night. We were hoping we could stay in your village just for the night."
The village chief still didn't fully buy it.
Vincent may have looked decent, but these were chaotic times warlords and bandits were everywhere. You couldn't be too careful.
"There really is a dead person in there?"
"There is. If you don't believe me, I can open it for you."
As he spoke, Vincent reached to open the lid.
The chief didn't stop him and watched carefully.
When the lid opened and he saw the darkened corpse inside, he finally believed.
"Sorry about that. No offense to your elder. It's just that a bandit group's been active in these parts lately, so everyone's a bit on edge."
Vincent waved it off. "Totally understandable. You're just being cautious."
The chief relaxed a little at that.
He looked at the coffin again, then hesitated. "You're welcome to stay, but… that thing's a little taboo."
Vincent responded immediately, "A woodshed will do just fine."
Hearing that, the chief agreed and led them into the village.
He tidied up an old storage room and offered it as their lodging for the night.
The chief turned out to be quite hospitable. During dinner, he even sent over some food for Vincent and Autumn to enjoy.
