Cherreads

Chapter 12 - Let's tango.

She finally decided to accept the drink he had offered. There was something to toast to.

She raised her glass. They clinked their glasses and took gulps simultaneously.

"To a successful mission". She said.

He put his drink aside and gave her a file. Before she could ask, he dropped a signature pen beside the file.

"What's this?" She asked.

"Didn't you learn how to read? It's an NDA". He said.

"What's an NDA?" She asked.

"It means Non Disclosure Agreement. Just read through the file". He said, getting annoyed.

"I can't read all this tiny print." She said, flipping the pages with a clear lack of interest.

"Why not?" He asked.

"Because I'm wearing contacts."

"I even thought you were going to say you were shortsighted. Contacts don't stop people from reading, Camila. Find a better excuse". He said dryly.

"I'm serious. I can't read all those characters. It's too blurry for me". She said.

He pinched his nose.

"Then take it off". He said.

"Why don't you just read it to me?" She asked.

"Because I need you to be fully aware of what you are consenting to".

"Where's your bathroom?" She asked, a bit annoyed.

"Down that hall to your right". He said, pointing.

"I'll be right back, Mr. Pole".

When she came back, her eyes looked a bit red. Her eyes were now the same colour as Cassandra's were - jade green. They both had beautiful eyes.

"Are you ready to read?" He asked, pushing the document closer to her.

She stooped down to read the document.

"Even in face of torture?" She asked after a while of reading.

"Read till the end, Miss Harrison". He said, getting tired of the delay.

She had been putting the pen in her mouth while reading. When she was done, she signed and handed the document to him. She also returned the pen. He looked down at it.

"Why don't you keep the pen?" He said, taking the document and standing up.

"Oh, thank you, it's a pretty pen". She said.

He nodded.

"Shall we?" He asked, gesturing toward the door.

She picked up her coat and wore it.

"You are very straight to the point with me. You must be very hooked by this Cassandra girl. She is very lucky". Camila said with a sweet smile and walked past him.

He stood there for a while. Nothing was going on between him and Cassandra. He never really thought of her in that regard. He always thought of her like someone who needed protection. Was there any more to it?

He saw her to her car and watched her drive away. He entered his car and drove back to the hospital. He would have Tarson send over someone who could insert the tracking device. Once her hair was cut, they would take it for DNA sampling. He just hoped he could trust her.

She seemed to have recognized Frederick. She had shrugged it off, but it was very important information to him.

As soon as Tarson got someone, he would contact her. They would also take precautionary measures just in case she were to betray them in any way.

He pulled up in the parking lot. He entered the elevator to the third floor. It was empty. At the second floor, a little boy got in. He was holding a miniature toy.

The doors opened and he came out. He went to Cassandra's private room. Ross was not outside. He rushed inside. There was no one there. He went into a calm exterior/ interior panic mode.

He approached a passing nurse. She had no idea what he was talking about.

He approached another nurse.

"Excuse me, Miss. Do you happen to know where Cassandra Wilson that was staying down the hall is?" He asked, pointing in the direction of the room.

"She was moved out earlier. She is being prepped for flight".

He hadn't authorised the flight yet. Katherine had not yet informed him if all the papers were in order.

"Flight to where?" He asked, completely confused.

"Mr. Pole said that she should be returned to her previous hospital for recovery". The nurse said.

He had not said any of that. They were taking her back? Where was Ross? Ross of all people should know that he would never authorize such a thing.

"Is that where you are going?" He asked.

"Yes, sir. I just wanted to grab a few of her documents at the counter". She said.

"Forget the document, just take me to her". He said.

"But, they're waiting for me. I have to..." She was saying when he cut her off.

"Just take me to her please". He pleaded.

The nurse finally gave in.

He felt like people around him could hear how loud his heart was beating. It was drumming in his ears.

She led him to the departure room at the roof top. The helicopter was ready to move.

Ross was there talking to one of the flight doctors.

"Ross"! He yelled above the sound of the helicopter.

Ross did not seem to hear him. He went further into the room. Cassandra looked sedated. She probably was.

He called Ross again. Ross looked around to identify who had called him. Their eyes finally met.

Ross rushed towards him.

"Mr. Pole?"

"What is going on, Ross? I leave for a few minutes and they are already preparing Cassandra for an unconsented departure!" He yelled above the noise.

Ross guided him to a more quiet room.

"You sent me a text message saying that you changed your mind. You said that Cassandra should be prepared for return immediately". Ross said.

He never said any of that.

"Let me see that text". He said.

Ross showed him the text. He read it. It was from his office number. How had the bastard gotten access to his office number? Katherine! He had to warn Katherine.

"Why would you ever think that I would authorize this? Did it not occur to you to call me and verify?" He asked.

"You said I should do it immediately. I was confused at first, but I had to comply". Ross said.

"Thank God I got here when I did". He said.

Wait. How did he get Ross's number? If his office number had been hacked, that meant that all his office contacts were in Frederick's hands.

What in the world was he supposed to do?
