Chapter 112 - Chapter 112: You Truly Are a Foolish Boy

This was the first time Lin Yun had unleashed his killing intent since arriving in Soul-Hooking Valley. The intense aura instantly gave him a feeling of losing control, like speeding down a straight road only to suddenly encounter a sharp ninety-degree turn. Not everyone can slow down in time.

But just as Lin Yun was about to lose his reason, a ball of pure, clear Qi appeared in his Spiritual Terrace, forcibly pulling him back from the brink. Nevertheless, the towering killing intent instantly enveloped half of Soul-Hooking Valley.

The pressure on Pei Miaojin eased. This boy's killing intent… after honing it for only half a month, it's already this terrifying? She had never expected Lin Yun to change so drastically in such a short time.

The crowd, who had been mocking Lin Yun just moments before, fell silent. Maybe… maybe this guy really can do it.

Xiao Pingtian frowned. "Truly a stone in a shithole! Foul and stubborn!"

He didn't know how many times this had happened. Every time he thought victory was in his grasp, Lin Yun would somehow disrupt his plans. This time was no different.

"But so what? Pei Miaojin will die today, no matter what!"

The Mystic Heaven Soul-Suppressing Talisman released an even stronger wave of righteous energy.

But just then, Lin Yun gripped his sword with one hand.

Azure Origin Sword Style!

The onlookers saw what looked like a blue-green lotus blooming at Lin Yun's feet. When they came to their senses, they realized it was actually composed of flying swords, condensed from pure Yuan Qi. Each one was incredibly solid, and more terrifyingly, each was imbued with a surging, violent killing intent.

"Before, I was indeed no match for you. But now…" Lin Yun's voice was resolute. "You cannot kill me!"

Dozens of flying swords shot out at once.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

The sound of them tearing through the air was incessant. Their sole target was the Mystic Heaven Soul-Suppressing Talisman hanging in the sky.

Pei Miaojin, propping up her weakened body, cried out, "Are you insane? The talisman has already been activated! What good will breaking it now do? With that kind of power, why don't you just kill that boy?"

Lin Yun's voice was firm. "Because I won't permit you to die!"

Pei Miaojin was stunned. She didn't know if Lin Yun was being a fool, or if there was some other reason. But in the half-month they had spent together, she had come to understand him a little. This boy never spoke with such certainty unless he meant it.

Xiao Pingtian was furious. "A mere Origin Sea cultivator dares to challenge me?"

He slashed out with his sword. The sword Qi formed a half-crescent moon as it descended, forcing Lin Yun to either recall his flying swords to defend himself or take the hit. That crescent of energy was enough to take half his life.

Lin Yun watched the attack draw closer, yet he remained unmoved. His target was the talisman. The artifact was suppressing Pei Miaojin; if he didn't break it now, she would surely die.

CRACKLE!

Everyone looked up. The protective barrier around the talisman shattered like glass. Countless flying swords shredded the Mystic Heaven Soul-Suppressing Talisman into fragments.

At the same instant, Xiao Pingtian's sword Qi fell upon him. The crescent of energy completely devoured Lin Yun's body.

Luo Yunchao clucked his tongue, sighing with a mix of shock and pity. "He's really crazy. To destroy the talisman, he took a direct hit from Senior Brother Xiao."

Ye Qian stood frozen, at a loss for words. Would she have dared to do the same? To block that attack with her own body? Only a madman would do such a thing. Yet Lin Yun had actually done it.

"Lin Yun is dead! The battle is over!"

"Oh, haha, we can go back and collect our reward!"

In their eyes, after taking a hit like that, Lin Yun should have been turned to ash and smoke.

But that was not what happened.

The thick smoke billowed. Xiao Pingtian frowned. He thought the same as the others. It was a full-power strike from him. Lin Yun should have had no right to survive. But now, he wasn't so sure.

As the smoke gradually cleared, the crowd looked on with anticipation, hoping to see Lin Yun's mangled corpse. What they saw instead left them shocked into silence.

Ye Qian's heart began to race. "No… how is this possible?"

Lin Yun's upper body was completely bare, his lower garments tattered and torn. The power of Xiao Pingtian's strike was not so easily endured. But Lin Yun had done it.

He gripped his sword in his right hand. His left hand, at that moment, had actually caught the blade of sword Qi.

Though the web between his thumb and forefinger was a bloody, mangled mess, though his arm was covered in dozens of grisly wounds, Lin Yun had done it. He had used his own body to forcefully withstand the blow.

Xiao Pingtian was frantic now. What kind of monster is this? How can he be so strong?

"This is impossible!" he roared.

Even Pei Miaojin looked at Lin Yun with shock. Xiao Pingtian wasn't particularly strong in her eyes, but this boy… he was even more outstanding than she had imagined.

"Nothing is impossible," Lin Yun coughed. "An idiot like you is not worthy of being called a sword cultivator. How could you possibly understand? What makes a sword cultivator strong is their will and their unconquerable spirit. How would a bully like you, who only preys on the weak, ever understand that?"

Xiao Pingtian scoffed. "A mere Origin Sea cultivator lecturing me on grand principles? Are you even worthy?"

"Exactly! Who does Senior Brother Xiao think he is?"

"He's the Sword-Bearer of the Flowing Cloud Sect, the most likely person to succeed Sect Master Gu! Doesn't this Lin Yun think a little too highly of himself?"

The disciples jeered.

Pei Miaojin, however, stared at Lin Yun's back, entranced. Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced her forehead. In the next moment, fragmented images she had never seen before flashed through her mind.

"Ah… I… it hurts so much!"

Pei Miaojin clutched her head in agony and collapsed to her knees.

Lin Yun, who had been about to counter-attack, quickly turned and caught her. "What's wrong? Is it because of the talisman?"

Pei Miaojin didn't answer, but it was clear she was in excruciating pain.

Seeing Lin Yun's concern, Xiao Pingtian sneered. "A sword cultivator, in love with a ghost? Haha, if word of this got out, I'm sure many people would find it hilarious, wouldn't they?"

Pei Miaojin groaned in pain. Lin Yun was helpless. But on the other side of Soul-Hooking Valley, the group of cultivators was roaring with laughter at Lin Yun's expense. The joys and sorrows of people are not interconnected.

An unknown amount of time passed. Xiao Pingtian did not attack Lin Yun. To him, Lin Yun couldn't escape. And with his overwhelming superiority in strength, killing him would be as easy as crushing an ant. Before crushing the ant, wasn't it more interesting to watch it struggle in agony? He enjoyed this feeling. It was a bit twisted, but… it felt good.

Just then, Pei Miaojin fell weakly into Lin Yun's arms. Her body began to turn translucent.

"What's happening?"

Seeing the bewilderment on Lin Yun's face, Pei Miaojin smiled. "It's nothing. My time is up. My mission… is finally over."

She looked at Lin Yun, a brilliant smile spreading across her face.

The next moment, she placed a hand on his Dantian.

BOOM—

Lin Yun felt a vast and pure power instantly surge into his body.
