Chapter 17 - Ch 16: Thrones of Shadow and Flame

Morning — Lucifuge Manor, Grand Hall

A heavy silence hung over the grand dining hall of Lucifuge Manor.

Lucien stood at the head of the obsidian-glass table, arms folded, crimson eyes glowing faintly. Behind him stood Souma Kazuya—calm, clipboard in hand, dressed like he was about to reorganize the Underworld's economy by lunchtime.

Before them sat every member of Lucien's household, including both his and Rias' peerages, all looking somewhere between confused and guilty.

Lucien's voice cut through the tension like a blade.

"I want receipts."

Yamato—muscular, horned, and eating from a rice bowl—blinked. "…For what?"

"For everything," Lucien said sharply. "Every spa purchase, haunted trinket, enchanted tea set, suspiciously lifelike figurine, and whatever that golden fish tank Rangiku had delivered last night was."

Rangiku twirled her hair. "It's feng shui, darling."

Souma cleared his throat, flipping a page on his ledger. "According to expenditure logs recovered by Lilith, total unauthorized spending in the last twenty-four hours equals 318,000 demonic credits. Not including the emergency exorcism we had to schedule after Gasper's 'accidental' acquisition."

"I thought the doll was cute," Gasper muttered under his breath.

Lucien snapped his fingers. A scroll appeared in the air with the words:

Household Financial Accountability Pact – Version 1.0

Soul-Bound. Contractual. No loopholes.

"I want everyone signed in blood by nightfall," Lucien said. "From now on, no one uses my Royal Credit Card unless they submit a formal requisition request through Souma and Lilith. That includes you, Yue."

Yue, mid-sip of juice, slowly lowered her glass. "Unfair. I'm your Sword."

"You're also my budget hazard."

Kuroka snorted. "Betcha he blames me next."

"I don't have proof," Lucien muttered, "but I have vibes."

Akeno, smiling sweetly, raised her hand. "Does this include romantic acquisitions? Or just economic ones?"

Souma didn't blink. "If it affects the household, it's being logged. Romance can be surprisingly expensive."

Lucien rubbed his temples. "Why did I build a city?"

Later That Day — City Center, Lucifuge Territory

The difference was staggering.

What once had been a neglected expanse of overgrown land and scattered ruins was now transforming into a vibrant foundation of modern power.

Souma stood beside Lucien on a high balcony overlooking the heart of the city-in-progress.

Below them, new roads formed efficient magic-carved grids, glowing slightly beneath the surface with integrated enchantments. A clean water system, enhanced by magical filtration, flowed through marble aqueducts that shimmered like veins of starlight.

Blueprints in Progress:

• Central Hub Plaza: Theaters, arcades, manga cafés, training simulators, and educational centers.

• Trade District: Teleportation kiosks, merchant guild access, artisan hubs.

• Residential Sector: Warded homes, elegant living spaces, and interspecies accommodations.

Even the Peerage Quarters had received serious upgrades:

• Private Training Arenas

• Enchanted Hot Springs

• Restorative Meditation Chambers

• Ward-Stabilized Sleep Halls

Lucien's rustic stronghold now gleamed with demonic gothic elegance and high-tech fantasy design.

"Your territory's foundation has been stabilized," Souma said. "Next phase is population outreach and economic infrastructure."

"I'm also reactivating the Isekai Investment Fund," Lucien added, swiping through his interface. "I want full licensing control, storyline sales, cinematic development, character merchandising—and new scouts to locate additional IPs from my previous world."

Souma's eyes gleamed. "I've begun hiring discreet staff. Former Naberius Guild agents. And one very enthusiastic succubus accountant."

"Contacts?"

"Serafall's old entertainment partners. A goblin banker from Mammon's fallen circle."

Lucien grinned. "Now we're talking."

He gazed over the horizon. "It's not just about power anymore. I want a place where devils, outcasts—even humans—could thrive."

Souma nodded. "Then let's make it happen."

The Next Morning — Lucifuge Arena

Within the newly upgraded coliseum, Lucien's and Rias' peerages gathered.

Floating tactical panels hovered above them, while the arena floor shifted into cliffs, forests, ruins—modular terrain crafted by ancient devils for training future kings.

Lucien called out:

"Team A: Rias, Akeno, Koneko, Gasper, and Yumi."

"Team B: Yue, Yamato, Rangiku, Ghislaine, and Kuroka."

"Objective: Seize the command tower. Everything but killing? Fair game."

The battle exploded:

• Ghislaine shredded traps and barriers with primal speed.

• Yamato—club crackling with Haki—fought like a storm, taking on two at once.

• Kuroka glided through shadow portals, more precise than ever.

• Gasper's new time-dilation field slowed Yue… but only for a second.

Yumi and Rangiku clashed mid-air, sword versus sealed spirit energy, until Yamato's flying hammer feint sealed the match.

Team B won—barely.

Lucien clapped. "Next time? No one holds back."

East Wing — Forgotten Library

While others celebrated, Kuroka prowled the east wing.

Her eyes narrowed at a flickering sigil.

"It's not just Lucien's magic in this house anymore…" she whispered, tail lashing. "Something older sleeps here."

Balcony at Sunset

Lucien stood with Souma again, sipping tea.

The System chimed.

[System Task Generated!]

Fiancée Evaluation Initiated

Duel: Velzaria Tiamat

• Success: Win her loyalty and unlock new titles.

• Failure: She disappears from the registry.

Lucien raised an eyebrow. "She's not just here to flirt."

Souma adjusted his clipboard. "Prepare medical teams or a red carpet?"

Lucien smirked. "Both."

Far Away — Throne of Fire and Bone

At the edge of the Infernal Ridge, lava rivers roared. Obsidian towers scraped at flame-drenched skies.

There, barefoot and armored in volcanic steel, Velzaria Tiamat stood atop a throne carved by dragons.

The granddaughter of Tiamat. The child of Ddraig's blood.

She cracked her knuckles, molten gauntlets gleaming.

"The Crimson Prince dares challenge me?" she said, voice deep with fire and pride. "Then let him bleed like a king."

Her wings unfurled in a blast of ruby fire.

Lucifuge Manor — Nightfall

The sky turned gold and red as pressure unlike anything in recent memory rolled across the manor.

Velzaria Tiamat descended like a comet of divine wrath.

She landed—barefoot and grinning, eyes blazing like suns, clad in asymmetrical armor that merged elegance with annihilation.

Lucien stepped out to meet her.

"Velzaria."

"Lu-Lu," she purred. "You look good. Let's see if you fight better."

The full moon rose high overhead.

And the world held its breath.
