Chapter 15 - 14. Marriage Proposal

"We want you to get married to someone to whom you can open your heart and share your feelings with her. I already have a girl decided for you. I'll set you both up, only if you agree."

Tan left a long sigh and asked, "Who? Who is she?"

"Well, you know her pretty well." His dad said, making Tan squint his eyes.

His mom spoke up, "it's Jennifer, your secretary." Tan was stunned, he had to blink several times to grasp the name.

....

"No dad never! Never! Never! NEVER!" Jennifer hastily walked around the living room, cupping the sides of her waist. "I will never get married to him." She shook her head, denying.

"But why baby. He is good-looking, he belongs to a well-to-do family. He runs his own company. He is perfect." Her dad walked behind her, making circles around the sofa.

"Dad, that's just the outer appearance. You don't know him personally. He is so annoying. Too rude and too ill-tempered. I can't even breathe properly in front of him. How can I even get married to such a man?" Jennifer huffed, glaring at her dad.

"Is there really someone who can annoy my daughter? Then I think he is the perfect one for you." Jennifer's mom laughed, making Jennifer frown.

"Mumma!" Jennifer whined, throwing her hands in the air and Hailey pulled her into a hug, caressing her head.

"Jenn, I am not telling you to get married today itself. It takes some time to get to know him. Maybe he will turn out to be the one for you." Robert lovingly caressed her back.

"But he doesn't like me. Also, he listens to old songs, he talks so rudely, he doesn't even smile, he is bossy!" She pouted, pushing her head into her mom's chest. "He is completely different from me!" She said in a low voice.

"But still, you can at least try to know him better? Won't you do this much for your parents' happiness who want to see their little princess happily settled with her prince charming?"

"He is a monster, not any prince." She frowned, making her dad chuckle.

"But you're a princess, right? I have always let you do whatever you have wanted. I have even let you work by yourself, away from me. Won't you listen to your dad?" She sighed heavily, snuggling more in Hailey's embrace, while her mind started roaming around her boss, Tan Williams.

Suddenly, Denny spoke up, "Dad, first I'll meet him. I don't want my sister to go into hell, even though she's a devil."

His sentence made Jennifer look at him, "Are you supporting me or insulting me? What do you mean I'm a devil? Huh!" Jennifer huffed and pouted.

....

"Dad, she is completely different from me." He shook his head. "She is chaotic, irritating, clumsy and what not! I can't marry her even in my nightmare." He looked away, getting up from the bed to walk out of the room. "Come on! She isn't that bad!" Aiden went inside, stopping his brother from going anywhere.

"Dad, I met her once. She is cute." Aiden smiled, holding Tan by his shoulder. "She might be cute to you, but she is definitely an irritating human being. I can't stay with her. She talks too much. And all her talk is absolutely nonsense. Bogus! She always has something to say and do. She can't stay calm and damn! She is so noisy. She can even do a noisy meditation."

Tan huffed once after speaking. "What I can see now is that you have become a lot talkative." Aiden chuckled amusingly and Tan frowned, seeing everyone smile. "You never used to talk so much Tan. And never did you notice so much about anyone. Hmm....what's the matter?" His mother raised her brows teasingly.

"There is absolutely no matter here, mom. I just don't like that girl." Tan looked away from everyone. "We aren't telling you to get married today only. Are we? Take your time. Know her properly. Fall in love with her and then get married."

"It's impossible for me to fall in love with her." He glared at the three of them. "Love is impossible itself, little bro. You can't predict from before. What if-" "No!" Tan interrupted Aiden in between, before he could speak anything else.

Leaving the room hastily, he walked upstairs as now his business-oriented mind was clouded by his secretary, Miss Wilson.

...

The news that Jennifer's father, Robert, dropped about her getting married to Tan Williams was nothing but an atom bomb explosion for her. She frowned to herself, thinking about it as she made her way towards the office building. Her head was filled with him only since yesterday and her mind was scattered in every other place. And not being able to meet Mia today was like a cherry on top, otherwise she would have diverted Jennifer's mind.

She walked towards the lift mindlessly only to bump into a hard figure on the way. "Oh! Sorry" Jennifer said immediately but gasped, as the person was none other than her boss, Tan Williams himself. She blinked her eyes several times as he gave her a hard stare before walking into the lift followed by her.

"Always keep on bumping into me, what the hell!" Tan muttered under his breath.

"You said something, sir?" Jennifer asked.

"None of your business, and please be quiet. I don't want to listen to any of your rubbish."

She just nodded her head and stood at a far corner of the lift, after greeting him, but he didn't even reply to her as he kept himself busy on his phone. He wasn't actually doing anything but fiddling with his phone just to avoid her. His brain was only talking about her, since the time his family disclosed their wish for him to get married to her.

"Umm, sir." Despite being said not to talk, Jennifer being the talkative being couldn't shut and spoke up. Shs already analysed from his weird behaviour that he knew about the marriage proposal and hence, she tried to make the first move.

"Keep shut!" He didn't even raise his head to look at her.

"But sir-" She again started speaking, frowning because of his arrogance but got interrupted again.

"Quiet Ms. Wilson" He again order.

Jennifer huffed looking away and murmured under her breath, "And dad thinks he is the one for me!"

The lift was about to reach the floor, but suddenly the duo heard a loud rolling sound before the lift shook and then halted.

Jennifer plastered her back to the wall for support while the floor beneath her shook as if there was an earthquake.

"What happened?" She gasped in horror and looked at Tan who also looked a little tense but still maintained his calm.

"I think there are some technical issues" Tan dialled a number, fixing his gaze on the door of the lift while Jennifer stood in the corner, gulping in fear. Being claustrophobic was making the situation hard for her, she never liked the idea of being in a lift, but the number of floors didn't help, if she won't die from being stuck in one place, she will probably die by climbing the large number of stairs.

"Yeah there are some technical problems. The workers are working." Tan said folding his arms and leaned back on the wall.

"What do we do now?" She looked at him with her big, scared eyes. "Nothing. Just wait patiently till the lift is repaired." He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

"Patiently? I am losing all my patience. How can I be patient? We are stuck here. Are you even understanding my situation? I am claustrophobic. Will I die? No, I don't wanna die." She panicked while talking in a hurry. "Ms. Jennifer, if you are claustrophobic than why are you using elevator? Don't you know this building has stairs too?" He gave her a blank look.

She gritted her teeth angrily. How can he be so calm in this situation?

"Exactly! This building has stairs too, but no one can keep on climbing that much, if not by being stuck here, I would have died climbing the stairs. It would have been better if I would have been stuck alone but with you! At least I could have died in peace." She scoffed, and he rolled his eyes, looking away, but felt the small jerk on the lift. A squeal left Jennifer's lips, and she instantly walked towards him, standing close to him.

"What?" He looked at her, raising his brows.

"You might feel scared sir, so yeah!" She said, trying to breathe normally, forcing a smile at him while tapping the sweat forming on her forehead with a handkerchief.

"Oh! I might feel scared?" He scoffed, making a face and she licked her lower lip, feeling extremely nervous.

"When will it be repaired?" She groaned.

"I am not the mechanic!" He gave a monotonous reply in return.

"Th-This feels so pa-paranormal." She roamed her eyes around and just then the lights flickered and again there was a jerk. Jennifer immediately held onto Tan's arm trying to keep herself from falling.

"Please please please! God, I don't wanna die now. Please!" Jennifer prayed closing her eyes tightly.

Tan just looked down at her and sighed seeing her hold his arm tightly.

.....

It's been 15 minutes, and Jennifer didn't speak a word. That was definitely odd for him because, for him, Jennifer is a person who can even have conversation while sleeping. He shook her a little and called out her name, "Ms. Jennifer?" To which she didn't respond.

He, who was just looking straight at the elevator door, waiting for it to open, looked down at Jennifer, just to see her passed out, resting her head on his chest. He immediately unlocked his phone and called the mechanic, "What the hell are you guys doing, why this lift didn't open yet?" He spoke in a strict tone.

"Sir, we are trying, we'll be done in five minutes." The mechanic replied with a shivering voice.

"Ok, if your five minutes crossed even one second, you are fired." Tan spoke in a warning tone.

He hanged up the call and again looked down at Jennifer, who's face was looking pale, he layed her down on the floor and lightly tapped her left cheek, calling out her name, but she didn't respond making him worry, he looked at her bag that was lying down. He checked it and found a water bottle, opening it's cap he sprinkled some drops of water on her face, but she still didn't open her eyes.

After a few minutes of trying to bring her to consciousness, he sighed and looked at the door which was closed from past 45 minutes, he took out his phone to again call the mechanic, but the door opened as he kept his phone back in his pocket, standing up.

All the staffs were there standing looking at him, he ignored them them and bent down to pick Jennifer up in his arms. Everyone gasped looking at him that diverted his attention towards them, he looked at them and yelled angrily, "Is there a drama going on? Go back to your work."

Everyone shivered listening to him yelling, making them run back to their work.

Tan looked at Emma and ordered, "Call the doctor, immediately, and send him on the highest floor."

Emma nodded unlocking her phone, as Tan walked away, carrying Jennifer towards his flat on the highest floor.

Tan reached his room and layer her on his bed, he looked at her and sighed, *Look at yourself, you look so silent when you are sleeping, but I like it better when you speak, you are the first ever person, who doesn't look at me like i'll eat them alive." He said looking towards the large glass window that was showing the morning view of the city, where everyone was so busy to even notice an old woman trying to cross the road.

He remembered the time, when ge saw Jennifer for the second time. It was 2 years ago when Jennifer was in second year of her college. People were crossing the road when the signal was red. And all the vehicles were stopped at their places letting the people go, one of those vehicles was of Tan too. He was just looking around, when he saw a girl, her long hairs covered her face, she was continuously on her phone, he found her little familiar. When she was about to cross the road, she saw a cat that was standing on the roadside with an old lady, who was slowly crossing the road with her cat following her.

Jennifer saw the timer ending so she just slowed her pace, pretending to be busy in her phone, Tan, who was looking at her actions attentively, already recognised her as the girl of last year, he was amazed to see her act in such a generous way, without even showing.

That day he felt something in his heart that was unexplainable. He felt a strange feeling that seemed illegal to his life rules. She was the first ever girl who caused a tingling feeling in his heart.

Tan was just smiling to himself, lost in his thoughts, when a sudden knock on the door broke him out of his reverie.

"Come in" he called out, trying to compose himself.

The door opened, revealing a lady doctor who walked in with a no-nonsense expression on her face. Tan couldn't help but smile at her, walking towards her and giving her a hug.

"I see, you have finally found someone" the lady doctor teased, looking behind Tan and raising her eyebrows.

Tan furrowed his brows and squinted at her, "Are you seriously going to do this to me?"

"What? I didn't do anything." she said innocently, avoiding his gaze. "Anyways, let me do my work. Don't disturb me."

She made her way to the unconscious Jennifer, sitting down in front of her to check on her condition.

"For how long was she stuck in the lift?" the lady doctor asked, focusing on her examination.

"About an hour," Tan replied, concern evident in his voice. "What happened to her? When will she wake up?"

"She will wake up in an hour. Just make sure she doesn't overwork herself and, if possible, give her a week off." the doctor said, her tone serious and warning.
