Chapter 3 - 2. The Freaky Roomies

Aarav entered the boys' hostel building while talking with his best friend, Arjun

Aarav: "I cannot believe the boys hostel building is so huge, its feel so great, why did you choose to be a day scholar, it would have been great, if we could have shared the same room together"

Arjun: "I know that, still I applied late for the hostel, so there was never a chance that I would get the hostel, even if I am not in hostel, we will share q lot of time together"

(There is a huge crowd near the reception of the hostel, so the guard requests Aarav to wait in the waiting area)

Aarav: "It's so crowded outside, so how was the first day of the orientation."

Arjun: "Nothing, we were given refreshment before the start of the orientation program and then the chief guest Mr. Victor Sinclair, the ambassador for International Peacemaker and Cultural Diplomat of NCA, welcomed the new batch of 2011. After that, Mr. Haruki Nakamura, the director of the law school gave a welcome address and was bragging about the success and different course that the university offers and started with the clubs, cells and centres of the university and that was about it."

Aarav: "So, I did not miss anything. Are there any good-looking girls in your batch."

Arjun: "No, I don't think there is any, and if there are, maybe they are not single."

Aarav: "Maybe you do not have keen eyes. There is always gold in coal. You just have to find it, my friend."

Arjun: "Okay, I will let you do the hard work."

Aarav: (laughs) "it seems I have to teach you so many things."

Suddenly, the door opened

Attendee: "Aarav Malhotra!"

Aarav: "Okay, I will call you back, bye!"

Arjun: "Bye!"

Attendee: "You have been allotted the room 502, there are 4 people in the room, but as every think is well settled, we will shift the extra person to, another room."

Aarav: (to himself) "a seemingly innocuous and a very lucky number for me, who would have thought my birthdate, room would give me the feeling of second birth to life"

Which was Aarav's unexpected trials and tribulations. The room was shared by Aarav and his three roommates, each possessing a distinct personality that clashed with Aarav's preferences.

~Vikram: The sports enthusiast with a penchant for turning the room into a mini-gym. Aarav found it challenging to concentrate with the constant sound of weights clanging.

~Aditya: The meticulous studious one, who insisted on maintaining a pristine study environment. Aarav, on the other hand, was more laid-back about his study space.

~Rohan: The laid-back musician who always had his guitar nearby. Aarav appreciated the calming melodies, but he wasn't sure about Rohan's habit of playing at odd hours.

Days turned into weeks, and Aarav's initial discomfort evolved into frustration. The room, despite its size, felt like a battleground of conflicting personalities. Aarav's only solace was his best friend, Arjun, a day scholar, whom he confided in.

Aarav: "Arjun, living with these guys is a nightmare. Vikram's gym sessions, Aditya's constant studying, and Rohan playing the guitar at midnight... I can't take it anymore."

Arjun: (smirking) "Sounds like a unique bunch. Maybe you'll learn to appreciate their quirks."

Aarav: "You say that because you don't have to live with them!"

Arjun: "Are they really that bad?"

Aarav : "No, it's not like that. they seem to enjoy their own company and live in their own different world. They just talk between themselves, even having their own Roomie group."

Arjun: "Maybe you are angry because they did not add you in the group (smirk)"

Aarav: " (annoyed) Let's just not talk about them, now, I still have to see their faces, when I go back in my hostel room, and it's been 7 days, when are they gonna make the room 3 sharing, room feels so congested (opened his phone), hey didn't I send you the picture of a very cute looking girl, did you find details about her.

Arjun: "Oh this girl (showed the photos) She is meera and is way beyond your reach, it seems she is very introverted, also she has no friends, so it's very difficult to start a conversation with her"

Aarav: "So, you are saying, I should give up, even before trying"

Arjun: " What I am saying is, why to waste time on her, there are better options here"

Aarav: "I don't know, maybe it is fate, maybe it was meant to be."

Arjun: "Aarav, you are an idiot"

Aarav: (laughs)

Notification: Rohan is live

Aarav: "What is he upto now"

Arjun: " it seems to be normal to be me"

Aarav: (shocked) "you are really watching it"

Live video begins, and Rohan sets up his guitar, adjusting the camera to capture the perfect angle.

Rohan: (smiling) Hey, everyone! Welcome to tonight's live session. I've got some tunes lined up, and I hope you enjoy the music. Feel free to drop your song requests in the comments.

Aarav: "Strangely everything seems normal (shocked and stand up)

Arjun: " What happened!!"

Aarav: "He is capturing my underwear"

Arjun: "Do not worry, no one will know it's yours and who is going to notice it"

Rohan: (In live video) "Oh!! this underwear behind me, is it yours vikram"

Vikram: "Nope"

Rohan: "Yours Aditya"

Aditya: "Not mine either"

Rohan: "Then it's of Aarav, come to think of it, he wears the box assorted underwear"

Arjun: (stunned), "they really said it"

Aarav: "Now you get what I have to go through, by the way who wrote the question"

Arjun: "No way (Confused), it was from meera's account, maybe someone from her phone did it"

Aarav took the phone of Arjun from his hand

Aarav: (smiling), "Meera liked my underwear"

Arjun: (disgusted) "you really are creepy"

Aarav: (creepy smile)

Days passed, and the incident with Rohan's live video became a story told in hushed tones across the hostel. Aarav's unexpected fame, or rather infamy, didn't seem to bother him much. Instead, he found it amusing and, to some extent, a unique icebreaker in the awkward dynamics of his shared room.

One evening, as Aarav returned to his room, he found Vikram doing push-ups, Aditya deeply engrossed in his books, and Rohan tuning his guitar. The atmosphere was tense, but Aarav decided to break the ice.

Aarav: "Hey guys, I see we've become quite famous thanks to Rohan's live video."

Vikram: (grinning) "Yeah, you're the star of the show, Aarav."

Aditya: (without looking up from his book) "Fame isn't always a good thing."

Rohan: "But hey, it brought us closer, right?"

Aarav: (sarcastically) "Yeah, nothing like underwear discussions to strengthen the bond."

The roommates shared a laugh, and surprisingly, the tension lifted. Over the next few days, the four of them started to find a balance. Aarav learned to tolerate Vikram's workouts, and Vikram compromised by keeping the noise down during certain hours. Aditya and Aarav negotiated a middle ground for the study space, and Rohan promised to limit his impromptu guitar sessions.

One day, as they were all sitting in their room, Meera walked by. Aarav decided to take a chance and struck up a conversation.

Aarav: "Hey Meera, we haven't officially met. I'm Aarav, your infamous underwear guy."

Meera: (smiling) "Oh, I heard about that. Quite the introduction."

Aarav: "Well, I thought I'd make a lasting impression."

Meera: "Mission accomplished. By the way, I liked the pattern on the underwear. (laughs)"

The unexpected compliment caught Aarav off guard, and the roommates burst into laughter. Meera joined in, and the ice between them melted.

As the weeks passed, the roommates became an unexpected group of friends. They shared stories, supported each other through challenges, and found comfort in their differences. Aarav realized that the seemingly random assortment of personalities had created a unique harmony in their shared space.

Arjun, observing the transformation from a distance, couldn't help but be amazed at how Aarav had turned an awkward situation into an opportunity for connection. The trials and tribulations of room 502 became a testament to the power of laughter and understanding in overcoming unexpected challenges.

And so, in the vast tapestry of university life, Aarav and his roommates embraced the quirks that initially drove them apart, finding genuine friendship in the most unexpected of places.
