Damien's eyes met hers when he was walking towards the throne room. He couldn't tell what she was there for, nor why she was the one cleaning, and alone.
Danika's gaze met his and she had brought down her face immediately. This wasn't what he had promised her father, but what could she say. Right now, he was even helping her by allowing her stay in his pack. He could have decided to throw her out or return her to Crimson Veil if he so wished or wanted, but he had let her stay here instead.
He paused when he saw her, but she continued cleaning. Did he want to say something to her? She had asked no one in particular.
Almost done cleaning the throne room as it was the entrance she was cleaning now, she began to scrub the remaining parts slowly, waiting for whatever he wanted to say to her.
It was almost evening and she was done with it. Nandi had sent Urmaa to knead the dough for the chefs in the kitchen when she had discovered her helping. But she had forgotten that Urmaaa had a son. Or maybe she didn't expect that Mordred would be domesticated to know how to clean even as he was male. It was rare in most werewolf communities.
She waited for a moment but Damien didn't say anything. Instead, he stared at her. Before he came back to to his senses and began walking towards his throne room when he heard voices of his cabinet closely behind.
It was surprising to Danika that he didn't even speak a word to her. Was he complicit with her becoming an omega in his pack? The lowliest of the lows? His silence was deafening and seemed to point in the direction.
As she was lost in thoughts cleaning the entrance of the throne room, a feet stepped on her fingers as she mopped the floors. Raising her head and then taking in whom it was, she recoiled immediately, not wanting him to see her.
"I'm very sorry sir" she managed to mutter while keeping her head low and hiding. She was the victim, but here she was apologizing.
He shouldn't see her like this. Especially since she hadn't rested since the morning of the day.
But what Danika wanted was far from happening and instead of the man who had stepped on her fingers was more keen on knowing whom she was, her face which she kept hidden did not help matters either.
"Come on! Let's go in. We're almost late for Damien's council meeting" a voice beckoned on him from behind and the man had to walk in, ignoring Danika and the curiosity that has almost gotten hold of him few minutes ago.
Immediately they went in, Danika scrubbed the floors as fast as she could, wanting to run off once she was done.
Fate seemed to have been on her side as she was able to in no time. She had even cleaned where the men had marched on while walking into the throne. Nandi wouldn't have anything to whine her about with later.
"Danika?…" She heard the voice so loud and clear as she was almost out of the vicinities of the throne room.
Her feet froze as she thought about it, still trying to keep her face hidden as she heard the footsteps walking close to her.
"I knew it was you. It had to be you. When I saw the omega hiding her sve as she mopped the floors, I couldn't tell why. Why would an omega be hiding their face from me? It didn't make sense. That was when I knew it had to be you! Danika!" He blurted with bubbling enthusiasm as if he had been asked to narrate the story he had just mentioned.
Danika desperately wanted to leave and walk away from him but she dared not. New or not, she knew that there would be punishments awaiting her if she were to cross paths with a royal.
And with Nandi's untold hatred for her, it wouldn't come as a surprise if she would try to use her getting into any trouble to not just tormenting her but Urmaa as well for speaking against her authority.
"Good day, Alpha Lucian" she bowed her head before him as he came to her front. She wouldn't have done this if not for the condition she found herself in now. Ohh, the goddesses all know she won't, Alpha heir or not!
He chuckled while staring at herz reveling in the moment. Who would have thought?
Embarrassment washed all over Danika, she couldn't even hide flickers of it and Lucian who was watching her intently noticed without delay.
She wondered what he was doing outside when his fellow were still inside the throne room for the conference they had been called for. Who knew what excuse he had given to be our here trying to speak to an Omega who clearly wasn't interested in him.
"Is this what you have become, Danika?" His voice finally cut through the silence, laced with disdain and contempt, but Danika couldn't deny the mocking tone in them.
Her hair was still covering her face from how messy she had made it previously, but that couldn't hide her rage as even her fingers shook as fury tried to overpower her will not to.
This was exactly what Lucian wanted and why he had come out. Good thing it was playing out in accordance with his plans.
"Just few days ago, I gave you an opportunity. It was once in a lifetime. I told you to be my Luna but you had refused. Do you know? Do you know what I was rebelling against when I told you that? Not just were all the alpha's sons not willing to take you in as their Luna because you're an omega, but none could truly do so because we had all been threatened not to, but I did Danika, I did but you humiliated my kindness!"
Danika raised her head in confusion. "Threatened?" She muttered absentmindedly, not knowing when she did as thoughts of his words echoed in her head.
Who would have threatened the Alphas and their sons to all reject her?
"You didn't know?" Lucian questioned with a smirk on his face. He was loving this. Heavens knew he sure was.
