Chapter 17 - Nightmare

No one could sleep like they would at home. The students and teachers were sleeping on tables or chairs they had arranged, and quite a few had to sleep directly on the floor.

The sound of rain wasn't too loud inside the warehouse, and the rainy atmosphere actually made them sleep even more soundly, completely unaware that those sleeping outside had been drenched.

The problem was that no one had a change of clothes.

"This rainwater is too cold," one student said.

"Yeah, I've never felt rain this cold. It's colder than snow," another replied.

And Liam had to admit that this was true.

However, the problem wasn't just the rain.

He looked at the ground and noticed the water rising quickly.

This rain was actually causing a flood.

In just a short time, the floodwaters started entering the warehouse.

Those sleeping on the floor instantly woke up.

"What's happening?"

"It's freezing!"

"Damn it, where's all this water coming from? Is there a flood? But this school is on high ground; it's never been flooded before."

The warehouse quickly filled with commotion as the students who had been sleeping on the floor woke up, which in turn woke up those sleeping on the tables and chairs.

Naturally, they all panicked, making Liam realize that staying inside the warehouse might not be the best option.

He went outside again and found Alice standing outside the warehouse door.

He hadn't noticed her since waking up, but it seemed she had followed him.

'If this rain keeps up, I'm afraid the whole city will be submerged,' Liam thought.

Fortunately, the flood only rose to about knee-deep inside the warehouse before it stopped.

Outside, it might have reached an adult's waist, and in some lower areas, even up to their necks.

Liam quickly climbed back up the fort to assess the situation.

"Oh my God!" he could only mutter in shock as he saw the streets now completely submerged.

But what unsettled him even more was seeing the zombies standing on the water as if they were standing on solid ground.

Besides the zombies, he also saw many giant frogs, the smallest of which were as large as humans.

They were leaping around, their jumps high enough to clear rooftops from building to building.

"Today will be much tougher," Liam said.

He saw that Zombie Paul could also stand on the water, but the husky dog couldn't—it had to swim through the areas where the flood was deeper.

The water level didn't rise any further, but the rain never stopped. Dark clouds filled the sky so that even as the sun climbed higher, the sky remained dark. Occasionally, it would light up briefly when massive lightning bolts flashed.

Liam returned to the warehouse, deciding it was best to eat first.

He even took off his shoes and tossed them aside, feeling uncomfortable in his already soaked footwear.

"Hey, what are you doing, asshole!"

Liam then found a commotion inside the warehouse as several students fought over food.

There was still quite a bit of food left, but the better options were running low.

Two students seemed ready to fight over some items.

"You two, cut it out!"

Alex, with his large frame, stepped in and slapped each of their faces hard.

"If you keep causing trouble, I'll kick you out of the fort." He threatened.

Once he stepped in, the two students were immediately cowed.

Alex then grabbed the best food that had been fought over and brought it to Liam.

"What's your plan for today?" he asked, handing him the food.

He sat on an empty table.

"No plan except fighting," Liam replied.

"I think we need to find a better place," Alex said.

Apparently, he was growing tired of staying in the warehouse and wanted somewhere better.

"If it's far, can the fort be moved?" Liam asked.

"If the seat holders cooperate, it's possible. But those two are a bit of a problem. I always feel like they have some sinister plan," Alex replied while glancing at Anthony and Joel, who were deep in discussion together.

Everyone else looked anxious and uneasy because of the rain and flooding, but those two appeared unnervingly calm.

Liam couldn't figure out their plan. Clearly, they were enjoying the chaos, but unfortunately for them, they couldn't become the strongest.

Before he could say anything else, Lisa approached him.

She was followed by Melly, who was still wearing her shoes despite standing in the flooded water.

However, Liam noticed that her shoes seemed to emit a faint blue glow that repelled the floodwater from soaking them.

The blue light also appeared whenever water splashed toward her clothes.

"Liam, Melly can dry your clothes and create a water barrier to keep you from getting wet again," Lisa said.

Liam hadn't expected her water abilities to be that advanced. Apparently, her skills were more than just releasing water.

"No need, let her save her Mana," Liam replied, declining, since he wasn't too bothered by the rain.

At most, he only wanted his clothes dried when he needed to rest.

"Liam, are we going out to fight now?" Melly asked eagerly.

This time, she looked much more determined, her eyes full of impatience, eager to get going.

"Eat and drink first," Liam replied.

He handed the bread and bottled water that Alex had given him to Lisa and Melly.

The two nodded and accepted the food.

ROAR!

Suddenly, a loud roar from a zombie echoed inside the warehouse, startling all the students.

When they turned toward the sound, they saw it came from the teachers' area. The teachers, who had appeared normal before, suddenly had pale skin. Even the principal now had four arms like Paul.

Each of his four hands held a massive blood sword, and it seemed he was the one who had just roared.

(Zombie Level 3!)

(Zombie Level 2!)

One after another, notifications popped up on every student's system as they stared at the teachers.

"This is truly a nightmare," one student muttered.
