Chapter 23 - Absorption

Kevin used the streetlight to retrieve a tuft of black wolf hair from the ground, feeling cold sweat bead up on his forehead in succession. Fortunately, after encountering so many bizarre events over the past few days, his nerves had grown somewhat, and he hadn't lost his composure in the face of this Weird situation. After calming down, his first priority was to confirm that there were no suspicious "anomalies" around. This was a lesson he had learned after spending two days with Lily and Weilili; "abnormals" would always be accompanied by obvious anomalies, such as Lily's beastly oppressive aura and Weilili's bloody chill. He felt that the situation he had just experienced, which was unclear whether it was a dream or something else, might also be related to abnormals (considering he had encountered so many such things these past few days). But after searching around, he found nothing unusual, and his usually super-sensitive sixth sense was also silent.

"Landlord?" Lily blinked, her unusually bright eyes looking somewhat Weird in the night. "What's wrong?"

"Do you think there's anything... strange around here?" Kevin suddenly remembered that wolves were extremely sensitive creatures when it came to danger, and he couldn't help but recall the terrifying scene of the wolf pack pouncing before he was awakened by the nightmare. However, he shook his head and put the second thought aside. "Like other 'abnormals' or something."

Lily sniffed and then got down on the ground to sniff around carefully under Kevin's speechless gaze. After finishing, she stood up and shook her head: "No, it's all familiar scents. No strangers have been here. Did you encounter something, landlord?"

"Let's talk about it back home." Kevin tightened his grip on the hair and started walking towards the house. Lily followed behind somewhat confusedly, but she didn't forget to pick up the lawn chair and take it back with her. She was indeed a good guardian of the house.

In the living room, Kevin sat solemnly on the sofa, facing a confused Lily and a curious Weilili. Beside them sat "Gun", making the "four-member family" complete. Since the coffee table in the house had been destroyed by the two superwomen, an older, shorter table was now placed in front of them. Kevin put the tuft of black wolf hair on the table and looked into Weilili's eyes: "I encountered something strange."

Next, he recounted the previous bizarre dream as clearly and detailed as possible, especially emphasizing the scene of the endless prairie and the two silver moons in the sky in his "dream". Finally, pointing at the wolf hair on the table, he asked: "After waking up, I had this in my hand. Do you think I experienced a high-speed, low-cost version of time travel, or accidentally gained the ability to twist fantasy into reality?"

Weilili furrowed her pretty brows and ignored Kevin's off-key joke. She picked up a few strands of wolf hair and sniffed under her nose: "The scent of a wild beast, and no trace of dark magic. This is indeed from a natural animal. That big dog over there, your nose is better. Come smell this."

Lily oh'ed and placed the wolf hair under her nose, taking a deep breath. "It seems a bit different from the wolf scent I'm familiar with, and it does carry a kind of... scent that's different from this city, with a mixture of earth and grass. Only werewolves can distinguish such subtle things." After a moment, she finally realized what Kevin had said and slapped the table. "Wait, did you just call me a big dog?!"

"Hey, be gentle!" Kevin looked at his broken table with pity. Fortunately, Lily was in her human form and hadn't used her real strength, so the table hadn't been ruined like the coffee table. Then he turned to Weilili, "What do you think happened? Is this so-called magic?"

"If it's just a dream, it's easy to explain. Various illusions and hypnotic techniques can achieve the same effect," Weilili still frowned. "I can weave a large dream that can make hundreds of people sleep together, and they won't realize they're dreaming until they wake up. Someone with a vivid imagination would definitely think they've traveled through time. But bringing something out of a dream... that can't be explained. At least, none of the magic I know can do that. Of course, it might not be magic. The dark world is complex, and I don't know much about it."

"Actually, it could be like this," Lily suddenly interrupted, her face full of interest. "First, use illusion or hypnotic techniques to give the landlord a nightmare and set the content of the nightmare. Then, sneak over and put these wolf hairs in his hand while he's sleeping..."

Weilili listened in astonishment and couldn't help but twitch her lips. "Can you stop ruining the atmosphere?"

Kevin thought Lily's theory made sense, and besides being annoying, it could perfectly solve the current problem. How should I put it? Idiots have their own worldview, and it's usually simple, direct, and surprisingly effective...

However, Lily had also confirmed earlier that there was no stranger's scent left at the scene, so this annoying guess didn't have much convincing power.

"In short, I can be sure that what I encountered wasn't normal. The natural environment definitely couldn't make me have a dream where fantasy erosion reality," Kevin sighed. "I've more or less accepted my fate. More fleas don't itch, more debts don't worry. Whatever weird stuff comes, let it come. But before that, I have to find a way to stay alive and safe with you super creatures... It could be deadly!"

Weilili and Lily both knew about Kevin's encounter with the woman who claimed to be a god and the labor contract that had tied him to her ship. Therefore, they didn't bother with any nonsense about leaving this time but instead started thinking seriously. Weilili was a very smart girl (at least smarter than Lily). She could see that although Kevin was an ordinary citizen, a lazy youth who feared trouble, his courage and acceptance ability were surprisingly strong. Every time he encountered something that could shatter one's worldview, he would be surprised for no more than ten seconds before starting to carefully analyze and look for a solution. This was also the case this time. It was a rare quality. But no matter how strong his courage and acceptance ability were, Kevin was still an ordinary person. Weilili really didn't know how to make an ordinary person become powerful instantly.

"Didn't that Raven 12345 give you any kind of golden finger or something?" Lily asked curiously, leaning on the table. "I've heard humans talk about it. Since you're working for a god, shouldn't the Temporal Administration Bureau give you some sort of labor protection gear?"

"She might have forgotten, and I didn't ask," Kevin thought about it and agreed. "I'll ask her face-to-face next time I see her. Her phone number doesn't work, so to find her, I guess I'll have to go back to that creepy place again... I feel like the Temporal Administration Bureau is becoming more and more unreliable."

"A distant solution can't quench a near thirst. You've already had one strange dream, and you didn't resolve the source within the dream. According to the laws of illusions, this dream will definitely continue to take effect. You can't not sleep," Weilili said as she slowly transformed into her vampire form. "I'll make a talisman for you first. No matter if you're under an illusion or something else, as long as it's suppressed, it will dissipate quickly."

Kevin suddenly remembered Weilili's collection of "talismans" and instinctively asked, "Are those little trinkets of yours reliable?"

"Who told you about my treasures?" Weilili furrowed her eyebrows slightly. "I'm talking about the power of the high-ranking vampire clan!"

With those words, Weilili hesitated for a moment before biting her finger with her sharp fang. Immediately, a drop of blood with a mysterious gold-red aura came out of her fingertip. "Come here. Let me put this drop of blood on your hand. It should be enough to suppress that nightmare if it's really an illusion."

Kevin hesitantly extended his hand, watching as Weilili applied the drop of blood with a mysterious glow to his skin. He couldn't help but murmur, "I remember legends say that vampires can turn ordinary people into vampires with their own blood. Do you think I might mutate?"

"Don't even think about it, it's just a scare tactic," Weilili sneered. "I've heard your human legends about how a single bite can recruit a new member... If vampire reproduction were really that easy, what would be the point of you humans? We would have spread across Asia, Africa, and Europe during the Bronze Age, and wouldn't have ended up so miserably hunted by demon hunters and the church."

She talked about the history of vampires being pushed to the brink by humans, yet she harbored no hostility towards Kevin, who was human. It was quite interesting.

"Eh? How can this be?"

Weilili exclaimed in surprise: Her blood droplet disappeared instantly upon contact with Kevin's skin!

It was as if it were absorbed, and at an astonishing speed.
