Chapter 10 - The unexpected attack

CHAPTER 10

Damon entered the room, his senses were alerted to the slightest sign of danger. Suddenly, without warning, a massive gray werewolf lunged at him from behind. "What…." he wasn't able to finish his statement.

Reacting with lightning-fast reflexes, Damon twisted out of the way just in time, narrowly avoiding the creature's razor-sharp claws. The werewolf growled menacingly, its icy blue eyes were fixed on Damon with a feral intensity.

Undeterred, the werewolf launched itself at Damon once again, its claws slashed through the air with a deadly force. With a burst of superhuman strength, Damon leaped into the air, vaulting from the ground floor to the fourth floor of the mansion in a single bound.

But the werewolf was relentless, pursuing Damon with unyielding determination. As it closed in, Damon seized the creature's outstretched arms, using its momentum against it to swing it around and hurl it into the wall with bone-crushing force.

For a moment, the werewolf lay still, stunned by the impact, but it quickly regained its footing and launched itself at Damon once more. Damon braced himself for the onslaught, his muscles coiled with tension as he prepared to defend himself against the ferocious beast.

As the werewolf bore down on him, Damon met its charge head-on, their bodies collided with a resounding thud as they crashed into the wall. Damon grappled with the creature, struggling to hold back its relentless assault as it thrashed and snarled with primal fury.

Damon knew he had to end the battle quickly, before either he or the werewolf suffered serious injury.

Summoning every ounce of his strength, Damon wrenched himself free from the werewolf's grasp, delivering a powerful headbutt that sent the creature reeling. Seizing the opportunity, Damon launched himself into the air, delivering a swift, devastating kick to the werewolf's head.

With a deafening roar, the werewolf was sent hurtling through the air, crashing into the wall with bone-shattering force. As it lay sprawled on the ground, defeated and bloodied, Damon approached cautiously, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

For a moment, there was silence, broken only by the sound of Damon's heavy footsteps echoing through the room. Then, with a low groan, the werewolf began to stir, its eyes flickering open as it struggled to rise.

"You're getting better," Damon remarked, a note of genuine admiration in his voice. "It was almost a struggle this time."

David, his chest heaving as he caught his breath, grinned up at his brother from where he lay sprawled on the ground. "I almost had you this time, Damon," he replied, his tone laced with playful defiance.

Damon extended a hand to help his younger brother up, his expression fond but firm. "I smelled your werewolf scent even before I walked into the gates," he admitted, his voice low and measured. "Your masking of your werewolf scent has improved, but it still needs refinement. And your breathing it's too loud. It will give away your position to your enemies, little brother."

David nodded, absorbing Damon's words with a mixture of respect and determination. "Alright, alright, but admit it, I almost had you," he persisted, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.

Damon chuckled softly, his gaze lingering on his brother with a mixture of affection and amusement. "Sure you did," he conceded, his tone teasing as he turned to begin the walk back to the mansion.

Damon ascended the grand staircase of the Spelman mansion, his steps echoing through the opulent halls as he made his way to his room. David followed close behind, their conversation continuing as they walked.

"So, you're going out with the Fitzgerald girl," David remarked, his tone casual but curious.

Damon paused on the stairs, turning to regard his younger brother with a knowing look. "I guess the elders are now watching who I meet up with now. I have to put a stop to that," he replied cryptically.

"Yeah, the elders really want you to get married and sire an heir and whatnot, but it's not from the elders I heard it though. I mean, it's not every day the alpha goes on a date with someone, you know?" David explained, his words tinged with a hint of mischief.

Damon raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his brother's insight. "Oh, well, how did you know about it, then?" he inquired, resuming his ascent up the staircase.

"The whole high school saw you get Victoria into your car. It's all they're talking about. I still have friends in that high school, they told me," David admitted, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.

Damon chuckled softly, a wry smile crossing his features. "I suppose I should expect nothing less from the gossip mill of Moon Grove High," he remarked, his tone tinged with amusement.

As they reached the top of the staircase, Damon turned down a corridor lined with elaborately carved wooden doors, each one leading to a different wing of the sprawling mansion. His room was situated at the far end, overlooking the moonlit grounds below.

Entering his room, Damon moved with practiced ease, shedding his outer layers and tossing them aside with casual indifference. David stayed in the doorway, watching his brother with a mixture of admiration and sibling rivalry.

"You know, Victoria Fitzgerald is quite the catch," David remarked, his tone casual but curious.

Damon paused, turning to regard his brother with a thoughtful expression. "She certainly has her charms," he replied.

"But you're not sure if she's the one," David observed, his keen eyes sizing up his brother with uncanny accuracy.

Damon sighed, running a hand through his tousled hair as he contemplated his brother's words. "I suppose I'm still figuring that out," he admitted, his voice tinged with uncertainty.

David nodded understandingly, his expression sympathetic. "Just be careful, Damon. The last thing you need is to get caught up in a mess with the Fitzgerald family," he cautioned, his tone serious.

Damon nodded in agreement, acknowledging his brother's wisdom. "I'll keep that in mind," he replied, a note of determination in his voice.

"David, you know that being alpha comes with its own set of challenges," Damon began once again, his voice tinged with gravitas. "But you also know that I trust you implicitly. You are my brother, my confidant, and my most steadfast ally."

David met his brother's gaze with unwavering determination, his own resolve matching Damon's in its steadfastness. "I understand, Damon," he replied, his voice steady and unwavering. "And I will do whatever it takes to support you, I have your back big brother."

With a final nod, David took his leave, disappearing back into the maze-like corridors of the mansion. He just wanted to be left alone in his room, as Damon sank into the plush armchair by the window, his mind swirled with different thoughts of Victoria Fitzgerald and the tangled web of politics and power that surrounded her family. "is she what i really wanted? What about her sister?"
