Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Valkyrie at the End of Days

The commanding Valkyrie's eyes flickered, but she didn't hesitate for a moment. She clicked on the file titled Demon Slayer.

Immediately, a tragic tale of humanity's desperate battle against flesh-eating demons unfolded before her.

"This is... real? Demon Slayer. Even though there are many parts I can't quite grasp, it's clearly a completely different world. A world overrun by demons. Whether or not this world has gods is still uncertain. But one thing is clear this isn't my world. In my world, there may be gods in the heavens, but we have no such things as demons."

Brunhilde, the Valkyrie, began to analyze the authenticity of the world shown in Demon Slayer, as well as the true nature of the so-called "chat group," wondering whether it was merely the plaything of some deity.

Meanwhile, the other members of the group, aside from the two newest additions, were also watching the anime together.

"Ah, I'm finally catching up on anime again. I had already watched Demon Slayer before I got isekai'd, but rewatching it now is just as satisfying, especially while sipping on a bottle of otaku happiness," said Kumoko contentedly.

"You've seen Demon Slayer too, Kumoko?" Kevin Cross asked.

"Yup! Of course I have! I was a top-tier shut-in before all this hardcore otaku, anime, light novels, you name it. If it had good reviews, I definitely watched or read it." Kumoko spoke with pride.

"That's terrifying... The demons in this newcomer's world are horrifying. They actually eat people? Amitābha..." Izumi murmured, deeply disturbed.

"Immortal bodies, vulnerable only to Nichirin blades or sunlight... They really are a nightmare to deal with," Uchiha Izumi added with a frown.

As for her, after deploying numerous children of Uchiha Sasuke across the Shinobi World and even clashing with Uchiha Itachi repelling him no less Izumi had begun to regain some emotional balance. Her mental state had stabilized somewhat.

"Demons are scarier than the undead... No on second thought, in terms of raw threat level, even if the undead are weaker individually, they might actually be more dangerous overall," said Saeko Busujima thoughtfully.

"That's true. The undead are terrifying because of how contagious they are. In just a few days, an entire world can be overrun. That's the truly frightening part," someone else added.

"Speaking of which, Saeko, do you know how that undead virus started in your world? Was it man-made?" Kevin asked.

"I don't know. I'm just an ordinary daughter of a samurai family. I don't have any channels to find out something like that."

The Demon Slayer who stood ready to sacrifice herself squinted at the conversation in the group chat. Undead? What were those? More terrifying than demons? Impossible. There could be no greater evil in this world than demons.

"Demons are the most revolting and terrifying creatures of all," she interjected coldly.

"They are horrible, no doubt about it. But in terms of danger, the undead outclass them. The Demon King in your world has existed for who knows how many years, and the demon population is relatively contained. But in Saeko's world, that virus spread in mere days. The world is now crawling with undead. That's far more terrifying."

Brunhilde watched the group's conversation silently, her thoughts churning. She quickly clicked on the remaining files in the chat group.

The outbreak of undead in Highschool of the Dead. The chakra and myriad bloodline abilities of the Naruto world. The low-tech yet morally intricate martial arts world of Swordsman. And the strange world Kumoko lived in, where slaying monsters leads to leveling up and eventually, divinity.

These bizarre worlds didn't seem like something fabricated by any deity she knew of.

"So the chat group is real. It really does connect different worlds? These worlds truly exist? And more importantly, if one becomes the group admin, their power can grow?" Brunhilde's belief in the chat group deepened.

@Kevin Cross: Group leader, do you have any information about my world? Can you share it with me?

"I can't say for sure," Kevin replied. "I liked anime and novels before I crossed over, but I didn't watch everything out there. It's also not guaranteed I'll recognize everyone in the group. But if you tell me your identity, I can see if I know who you are."

Brunhilde hesitated, then replied. Kevin's humility made her trust him a bit more. If he had acted all-knowing and omnipotent, she would have been far more suspicious.

"I am Brunhilde, First of the Thirteen Valkyries of Asgard."

"Brunhilde? Leader of the Thirteen Valkyries? A goddess?" Kevin blinked in confusion. Honestly, his grasp of foreign mythology was shaky. Even if he recognized a few famous names like the Twelve Olympians of Greek lore he probably couldn't name them all. As for Norse mythology, he might know Odin, Thor, and maybe Loki, and not much else. Indian deities? He might recall Shiva. But Chinese mythology? That he knew decently well.

(Truth be told, the author had to look up Brunhilde's name while writing this part. Oof.)

So when Kevin heard the name "Brunhilde," it didn't ring any immediate bells. But "Valkyrie" that at least he had a vague impression of.

"Wait... Do you know about the Holy Grail? Or Heroic Spirits?" Kevin asked.

"Holy Grail? You mean the Christian relic? As for Heroic Spirits those are my responsibility. I guide and train them," Brunhilde answered.

"Oh... So, not Fate then. I think I've heard of you before. Which pantheon do you belong to? And has anything big happened in your world lately?"

"Norse pantheon," Brunhilde replied. "And yes something major is approaching. The Thousand-Year Prophecy is about to be fulfilled. If nothing changes, the gods will decide to annihilate humanity. Would you count that as something big?"
