Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: Unlucky Draw

When Izumi Uchiha saw the new points system, her eyes lit up. At this stage, she had already awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. Thanks to her growing fondness for Kevin Cross, both her physical abilities and chakra reserves had been enhanced. In fact, Izumi felt that even if she had to face Madara Uchiha without his Rinnegan, she wouldn't necessarily be at a disadvantage.

Still, the Rinnegan marked a major power gap. Beyond that was the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki transformation, known as the Sage of Six Paths mode and even higher, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki herself.

Although in the anime, Kaguya's performance seemed underwhelming compared to Six Paths Madara, Izumi had always suspected it was because the writers couldn't justify killing her off. It felt like a forced plot twist. After all, a single "Reverse Harem Jutsu" had stunned her long enough for Naruto and Sasuke to seal her away. Was the final boss of Naruto really just a sheltered maiden who had never seen the world?

Even if the canon ending was accepted as legitimate Naruto and Sasuke teaming up to seal Kaguya it still didn't sit right with Izumi. So what if Sasuke was the so-called savior? Did that mean she was supposed to abandon her own hatred? What a joke. If that was the case, she'd rather see the world burn.

She had no intention of stopping her quest for strength. Quite the opposite she needed to grow even more powerful.

"@Brunhilde. You mentioned fighting against the gods. When does that begin?" Izumi asked the Valkyrie directly.

"We have one year at most. After that, the battles will start," Brunhilde replied, her smile widening as she saw Izumi initiate the conversation. This points system might as well have been tailor-made for her. With Izumi as one of the thirteen human warriors fighting the gods, their chances of winning had just increased.

"A year from now? Let me be clear I'll fight with everything I have, but if it turns out I'm outmatched, I reserve the right to surrender. I'm not going to pull a Lu Bu or an Adam and fight to the death," Izumi declared plainly.

Brunhilde nodded solemnly. "Understood. As long as you give it your all in the battle, that's enough."

"Alright. One year from now, when you issue the quest, I'll accept it. And by then, I'll be even stronger," Izumi promised.

Watching the exchange, Saeko Busujima felt a surge of determination. If she could grow stronger within the next year, maybe she could be chosen as one of the warriors who would fight the gods. She just didn't know how different it would feel to slice through a god's body compared to slaying humans or the undead.

That thought only ignited her fighting spirit further. She had to grow stronger and fast.

Though Saeko had already achieved swordmaster-level skills, and now possessed chakra, that still wasn't enough. Not nearly.

"Ping. Izumi has signed in. Gained 90 points!"

As the others became increasingly fascinated and borderline obsessed with the points system, sign-ins began.

"Ping. Saeko Busujima has signed in. Gained 66 points!"

"Ping. Kumoko has signed in. Gained 23 points!"

"Eh? Only 23 points? Why is mine so low? Everyone else is getting tons of points. Especially Izumi. Am I cursed with bad luck? No way. I already got a raw deal getting reincarnated as a spider. Don't make me an unlucky draw too! I refuse! I absolutely refuse!" Kumoko flailed on the floor, denying her misfortune with every ounce of her being.

"Ping. Izumi Uchiha has signed in. Gained 52 points!"

"Not a huge number, but still above average. Seems like my luck isn't bad," Izumi said calmly.

"Why is it always me? Out of everyone, I got the least points. Only 23? That's just unfair! Kevin, did you rig this? Did you mess with the system? Fix it right now! I won't be the unlucky one. I won't!" Kumoko cried.

"Sorry. This really isn't something I can control," Kevin Cross replied as he tapped the sign-in button.

"Ping. Group leader has signed in. Gained 100 points!"

"Yes! Full score!" Kevin beamed. In both of his lives, he had never been this lucky. He'd bought lottery tickets before and only ever won a few bucks. Even those "Try Again!" bottle caps rarely came his way.

But then again, he had been chosen to transmigrate. Not only that, but he'd been granted a chat group cheat. That had to count for some serious good fortune. If his luck were truly bad, he'd have died on impact from that car and never gotten this second chance.

Honestly, Kevin figured that most transmigrators weren't unlucky at all. Unless they ended up in tragedy stories, just getting a shot at a second life let alone with cheat codes meant their luck was off the charts.

That logic, however, didn't sit well with Kumoko.

"Kevin! You definitely cheated! I only got a measly 23 points, and you maxed out at 100! There's no way that's fair!" she yelled.

"What can I say? That's just how good my luck is. I didn't choose this life it chose me," Kevin replied smugly.

"Unbelievable. You're a cheater! A dirty cheater! There's no way my luck is that bad. I refuse to believe it. This has to be your fault!" Kumoko shouted.

Brunhilde, watching the spider girl throw her tantrum, smiled. The poor thing really was unlucky. But as for herself? She was confident. After all, she was a Valkyrie. Surely her points would be stellar.

"Ping. Brunhilde has officially joined the Harem Chat Group."

"Ping. Brunhilde has signed in. Gained 3 points!"

The glass in Brunhilde's hand shattered. Her serene, confident smile twisted in disbelief.

"Three points? Three?! How is that possible? I'm a Valkyrie! A Valkyrie!" she roared.
