Gilles’s dark complexion deepened a shade further.
“The tea is truly delightful. Thank you, Gilles,” Chloe said.
Gilles paused before responding, “It is nothing compared to the very first cup of tea you offered me.”
Chloe smiled tenderly at him. “The first cup of tea I gave you… Has it been ten years already since we first met?”
“It has been eleven years, my lady,” Gilles corrected her in a soft voice.
Chloe’s eyes misted slightly. “You were just like an adorable puppy back then.”
“You made the same comparison the first time you saw me.”
“Did I?” A soft chuckle escaped Chloe, and Gilles nodded. Chester, who had taken the orphan in as a worker, had cautioned him against approaching the young lady, particularly considering his less-than-pleasant aroma. But Chloe, with her warm, curious eyes, had limped toward him and guided him into the castle.
