On Sunday, Alex went to church with his mother and the Cooper family. The only ones who didn't come were George and Georgie Jr.
After the mysterious dream Alex had this week, he felt like a weight had been lifted from his heart, and his face looked much brighter.
Melinda noticed this and felt happy. Her son used to seem sad and distant, but today his eyes were shining, and he didn't seem as withdrawn as before.
In the car, he was even humming a cheerful song, which made Melinda ask what the good news was. Alex simply replied that it was nothing important.
The service was coming to an end, and Pastor Jeff was preaching:
"Sometimes people ask me, 'Pastor Jeff, how do you know that God exists?' I say it's simple math.
Either God exists, or He doesn't.
Let's be cynical… At worst, we have a 50% chance. I like those odds."
Alex paid attention to the sermon and remembered this scene from the TV show. Looking at Sheldon, who raised his hand, he sat up straight, ready to watch the show.
"That's wrong!" Sheldon said.
Mary, realizing her son was about to cause trouble, quickly lowered Sheldon's hand and apologized to everyone, asking the pastor to continue.
Alex looked at Pastor Jeff, who had a smile on his face. Alex felt that this Pastor Jeff was expecting this situation.
"That's okay, Mary… And you're Sheldon, right?" Pastor Jeff asked.
"Yes, sir!" Sheldon affirmed.
"Well, Sheldon, why don't you come up here and tell me why I'm wrong?" Pastor Jeff invited.
Sheldon quickly accepted the invitation, but Mary tried to stop him, to no avail. Noticing this, Alex felt excited. Watching a scene on a screen and seeing it unfold in real life gives different sensations.
Pastor Jeff walked to the center of the stage and invited Sheldon to sit where everyone could see him.
"Sheldon's going to eat him alive," Connie, Sheldon's grandmother, whispered to Mary, laughing at the situation.
"Well, let's begin," Pastor Jeff's voice came, drawing everyone's attention to the two figures.
Pastor Jeff brought the microphone close to Sheldon's face, waiting for him to speak.
"You confused possibility with probability. According to your analogy, when I go home, I might find a million dollars or I might not.
Where does that have a 50% chance?"
"Oooh!" Everyone in the church reacted.
But Pastor Jeff just smiled and asked a question: "What do you think is the probability that God exists?"
"I think it's zero. I believe in science," Sheldon said without hesitation.
"Don't you think religion and science can go hand in hand?" Pastor Jeff asked again.
"Science is facts. Religion is faith. I prefer facts," Sheldon retorted.
"Hmm… that, I understand… Here's an interesting fact: many famous scientists believed in God. Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, and even Charles Darwin," Pastor Jeff said.
Alex, watching intently, realized that Pastor Jeff had just set a trap for Sheldon.
Sheldon may have a high IQ, but his EQ leaves much to be desired, because at this moment, he walked straight into the trap.
"So, is Darwin right about God and wrong about evolution?" Sheldon asked.
Pastor Jeff, having successfully cornered Sheldon, quickly wrapped up the topic and ended the service.
Sheldon walked away with a look of someone who had just eaten something unpleasant. Even Mary and his mother had a strange look toward Pastor Jeff, who seemed as happy as someone who had eaten a lot of candy.
And for some reason, Alex noticed that his mother had a peculiar expression toward Pastor Jeff.
After leaving the church, he got into the car, and his mother drove back home.
Looking through the rearview mirror, Melinda asked Alex:
"Son, do you believe in God?"
"I do," Alex answered without thinking.
"Why?" Melinda asked, doubt in her voice.
Alex remained silent for a moment. Noticing the delay in his response, Melinda added:
"I thought you would be like young Sheldon, who didn't believe in God. Mom doesn't mind whether you believe or not, I'm just curious."
To be honest, Alex didn't answer because he didn't know how to explain. After all, he had met a mysterious being who could be God.
Besides, being reincarnated—what greater proof could there be? But he couldn't talk about these things.
"Everything is a matter of choice. I chose to believe," Alex said. He thought that was the best response at the moment.

Author's Notes:
That's all for today. I hope you enjoyed today's chapters.
I'm thinking about writing another fanfiction romance and have three ideas in mind.
They would be: Boruto, My Hero Academia, and The Twilight Saga.
