Chapter 10 - Illusion... - 5

Oh, right... It's been over a month, and it seems that we've entered the new year....His birthday was on January 1st. Is this what it means to go to sleep at age 11 and wake up at age 12? For some reason that even he couldn't understand, he found it amusing, despite its strangeness, after spending his birthday asleep...

So... belatedly, happy birthday, Cecil...

He turned to the side, but his body hurt, so he frowned in annoyance.

Was it maybe five years ago, or four years ago? When Cecil was able to use his innate ability, the flame of damnation, he warned Cecil sternly never to use his ability in front of others or tell anyone about it, and Cecil responded to him. In fact, there were no problems with Cecil's innate ability.

although even for him, Cecil's flames were frightening and terrifying, but it's power was not a problem and never got out of control. His affinity with fire was astonishingly high, and he controlled the flame of damnation, as if it were one of his limbs.

But the problem was after he— Cassian awakened his innate ability about a year after Cecil...

With innate abilities, you instinctively know their name, their damage, and how to use them, but for Cassian, everything seemed shrouded in a strange fog.

He still couldn't understand his ability or its name... At least he understood that his element was earth. But he didn't dare use his ability since he got it because he didn't understand it and it hurt him.

And yes, the strange deformities all over his body were due to his ability, not Cecil's flame. Although it was nature for Cecil's flame to burn until it completely consumed its target, as had happened with the villa, perhaps thanks to Cecil's orders, the fire never touched him. No matter how fast the Januvia family men were, it would have been impossible for them to get him out of the burning room without the fire touching him, unless the fire deliberately avoided him so they could save him.

But what he didn't understand was why these deformities appeared on his body even though he had never used his ability?

He never liked not understanding things.

He liked everything to be under his control and understanding, so this whole situation was annoying, but... that was all, because he didn't like to strain his mind unnecessarily, because no matter how much he asked, he wouldn't find the answer now, so he ignored it completely and surrendered to sleep...

A rotten red flame... An empty, gloomy black space

Cecil, covered in blood, in front of his eyes, screaming, saying something to him...

But he couldn't hear him... He took a step and started running towards Cecil, but no matter how fast he ran, he couldn't close the distance

He could see his blood-stained brother in front of his eyes, screaming and begging him for help. So he kept running towards him, but to no avail... No matter how fast he ran, the distance never seemed to shrink... With every step he took, it seemed as if his brother was getting further and further away... until he began to fade away... He screamed in panic as he reached out to grab his brother.

"CEEEEL!"

He woke up in a panic, reaching out into the void, panting, his whole body drenched in sweat.

Yet he could not fully return to reality from his nightmare. He lowered his hand and placed it on his chest in anxiety, and when something on the window caught his attention, he turned in horror and his body shook with fear as he saw a dim, dark yellow light passing through the window from the courtyard. He froze for a moment, watching the reddish-yellow light with apprehension, But nothing happened. There were no explosions, no screams or cries, and the light did not flicker like a flame. Still, he could not ease his fear, so he pulled the blanket over his head, hid under it, and could not sleep with his teary eyes.

Moments of silence and frightening darkness were broken by the creaking of the door opening slowly and deliberately, which increased his trembling under the blanket, for he could feel someone walking toward him with light, quiet steps.

He closed his eyes tightly at the sound of the footsteps approaching him, unable to close his lips together because of the fear that filled his heart and consumed his mind and his entire being.

No matter how strong and unemotional he had seemed before, he was still just a twelve-year-old boy whose life had been turned upside down, leaving him emotionally distraught and unstable...

He flinched at the sound of footsteps

approaching... getting closer... closer... and closer...
