Chapter 33: The Real Lord (5)
“My lord… what shall we do?” asked the butler in a tiny voice.
Unfortunately, Apollonia overheard him and cracked her whip against the floor once more.
Crack!
“I am the lord of this domain. You need not seek the viscount’s permission to carry out my orders, butler,” Apollonia asserted, her golden-red eyes blazing as she locked her gaze with him.
“Ye-yes, of course! Please forgive me! I will fetch them immediately,” the butler stammered, shaking his head in apology before scurrying away to fulfill the task.
However, Apollonia caught the viscount mouthing something to the butler from an angle she couldn’t see.
The butler hurriedly made his way to the viscount’s study, unlocking a drawer that housed several identical notebooks. From within, he retrieved the black ones, which happened to be counterfeit ledgers prepared by the viscount as a precautionary measure.
