Chapter 4: The Races of the World
The Aurion sliced through calm waters beneath a sky scattered with streaks of gold and blue. The sea whispered peacefully beneath its hull, a stark contrast to the stormy chaos of days past. At the bow, Pol ST Daniel stood quietly, his coat fluttering in the breeze, eyes fixed on the horizon.
Behind him, Kaiden ST Theri leaned against the railing, his gaze occasionally drifting to the crew as they worked with practiced ease.
Nira Kuzi approached, a rolled parchment in hand. "Captain," she said, "I've been thinking. The Wriths—why would something so powerful exist in a world with so many different people? What were they really made for?"
Pol turned, considering her question. He looked at the crew—diverse in skill and background, united only by purpose—and nodded.
"That's something we all need to understand. Gather everyone on deck. It's time we talk about the world we're trying to save."
---
The Races of the World
The crew assembled on the deck, curiosity glinting in their eyes. Pol stepped forward, his voice calm but firm.
"Our world is home to six primary races, each with unique abilities, cultures, and histories. What binds us all together, though, is one undeniable truth: Each race has an Awakening. And the Wriths—those ancient forces we now pursue—are connected to every one of us in ways we barely comprehend."
---
1. Flamingers – The Race of the ST Clan
Pol gestured between himself and Kaiden. "The Flamingers, my people, are known for their deep-rooted connection to the Wriths. We are born with the ability to undergo five stages of Awakening. Each stage elevates our strength, reflexes, and elemental control—but very few ever reach the final stage."
Kaiden added, "Flameborn. It's a state of near-myth. A being who's transcended flesh and bone—becoming one with flame and force itself."
"But," Pol warned, "the path is brutal. Most die before reaching even the third stage."
The crew murmured quietly, absorbing the weight of that revelation.
---
2. Humans
Pol turned to the rest of the crew. "Humans may lack the elemental awakenings of the Flamingers, but your strength lies in adaptability. No race is as inventive, resourceful, or relentless as humanity. You've built nations, shaped technology, and stood toe-to-toe with races that should have outmatched you."
Nira smirked. "We don't need wings or fire. We've got reason, wit, and guts."
---
3. Dragons
"The Dragons are a legendary race descended from ancient fire spirits. They look human—until they awaken."
Pol continued, "Their first Awakening transforms them into hybrid beings with wings, claws, and heightened senses. The second stage grants them full dragon form—creatures of sky and flame, capable of devastating destruction."
Kaiden added grimly, "They live in volcanic regions. Not easy to find. Even harder to befriend."
---
4. Sylphirians – The Wind Dwellers
"Sylphirians are beings of wind and grace," Pol said. "With shimmering skin and glowing eyes, they command air itself. They live high in the storm-capped mountains and are said to walk between gusts, barely seen."
Mirae nodded. "They're whispers in the wind. If they don't want to be found—you won't."
---
5. Merlavians – The Ocean Folk
"The Merlavians dwell in the sea," Pol explained. "Gilled, scaled, and luminous under the waves. They breathe water, command marine beasts, and once—perhaps—they discovered the Wriths first."
Lamin spoke for the first time. "I trained under a Merlavian. If you gain their trust, there's no better guide through the sea."
---
6. Umbrans – The Shadowborn
Pol's voice dipped to a darker tone. "The Umbrans live in shadow. Their bodies shift like smoke. They can vanish into the dark and strike from unseen places. Some say they were cursed long ago—and that their Awakening feeds on emotion and loss."
Sonia shivered. "They say the price of their power is their soul."
Kaiden added, "If we cross their path… stay alert. They don't forgive."
---
The Wriths and the Coming Storm
Pol looked at his crew, eyes steady. "These six races make up the world we fight for. And the Wriths—those ancient powers—connect us all. But now, the Order of Eclipsia is trying to twist them for their own goals. They've been recruiting from every race, corrupting power that was never meant to be controlled."
Nira stepped forward. "What if they get to the Wriths first?"
Pol's jaw clenched. "Then they'll rewrite the laws of the world itself. And there'll be no stopping them."
---
Faraway Shadows
In a fortress of silent obsidian, far from the Aurion, Zephyr EL Veyrion stood before a glowing map of the world. Colored pulses marked the domains of each race, veins of light connecting them all.
A faint smirk crept across his face.
"Let the boy gather his knowledge," Zephyr whispered. "Understanding won't save him from what's coming."
