The heat of the summer sun rained down on Ruby's truck as she parked a few meters away from the Milford Hotel. She secured the binoculars at her eyes and she scanned the premises.
Sasha opened the top buttons of her black polo shirt while she fanned her face with her hand. "Ruby, tell us what you see."
"Zombies, zombies and more zombies. There's like twice the amount of those at the hospital." Ruby whistled. Each zombie in the crowd moved as if unseeing hands dragged them this way and that, pulling their eyes to one sound and then another. They responded in predictable ways. Ruby knew enough about them now to tell that they didn't have free will or the ability to choose their own path. It was like they're on auto-pilot, which made them one of the most dangerous predators on earth. She moved the binoculars to get a better look at the building, a glimmer was seen in the distance, she lowered the binocular in her lap. "What the hell was that?"
"What is it? What did you see?" Tashell leaned over Ruby's seat.
Ruby once again gazed through the binoculars and that's when she saw it, the glimmer. Someone was up on the roof of the hotel. "Somebody's up there. I think they're trapped," Ruby stated.
"Maybe it's one of the men from the radio," Tashell suggested.
"Either way, we gotta save them," Ruby added.
"Ok superman, but how do we do that?" Sasha questioned. "It's not like we can walk through the horde of zombies down there," Sasha pointed at the mass of the undead, swaying in the hot sun waiting on their next meal.
"I have an idea," Ruby grinned. "But you guys better buckle up."
"Fuck!" Sasha and Tashell grunted as they secured their seatbelts.
Ruby turned on the ignition. She put the gear stick in drive, and then she pressed on the gas. "Oh, and girls one more thing," Ruby chuckled. "HOLD ON!" She yelled as she sped her truck down the road.
The zombies heard the revving of the engine, and they turned their attentions to the truck.
Ruby stepped on the gas, running over every undead that came in her path.
Tashell held on to the handlebar above her head while Sasha bit down on her lips and gripped the seat of her chair. The truck began to slow. "Why are you slowing down!" Sasha yelled.
"I'm not, the zombies — there are too much of them," Ruby grunted. There were too many of them, they were putting pressure on the truck, slowing it in its path.
POW! The loudest gunshot they had ever heard echoed around the lot. The girls covered their ears as the gunshots kept echoing.
POW!
POW! POW! POW! POW!
Gunshots rang out, one behind the other. Ruby felt the truck picking up speed. The gunshots kept firing, and the zombies kept dropping. The girls didn't have time to pinpoint where the shots were coming from.
Ruby drove the truck up to the three-story building. The zombies were following behind, by this time, the gunshots stopped.
"Hurry, inside!" Ruby shouted as she grabbed her bow and arrow.
Tashell and Sasha quickly exited the vehicle with their weapons and ran to the entrance. "FUCK! The door is locked from the inside," Sasha yelled.
The zombies were closing in. "Sasha, come on," Tashell yelled as she climbed on the top of the truck. Sasha and Ruby followed Tashell's lead.
Tashell grabbed on the iron rails and pulled herself to the second-floor level. The windows were all barred, but she noticed a balcony, which probably belonged to a suite. She hurried onto the balcony and slid the slide doors open.
Sasha followed behind her. "Ruby, come on," Sasha rasped.
"You guys go on without me."
"What are you doing?" Sasha asked her as she noticed her climbing to the floor above.
"I'm going on the roof. Don't worry about me. You guys just be careful," Ruby said as she scaled her way to the roof.
Less than two minutes later, Ruby reached the top. Her fingers clutched the concrete edge. She readied to pull herself to the top, only for someone to push the tip of a rifle in her forehead.
"Slowly," a serious female voice said. Ruby slowly swung her right foot over the ledge until her hands and knees were on the gravel pavement. "Stand up!" Ruby made a move to get to her feet, only to be jammed in the forehead with the rifle. "I said slowly and keep your hands where I can see them." Ruby held her breath while she jiggled to her feet.
Ruby kept on holding her breath as her eyes scanned the woman.
A majestic beauty stood before her. Her brown skin glistened in the glow of the sun. Ruby had thought a moment ago that the gun was the glimmer she saw through the binoculars, but now she was sure it was the sparkle of this woman's skin. Her slender waist whistled down from her bust as smooth as a waterfall. Her army uniform did little to cover her athletic body. Ruby's eyes roamed over the woman before they paused at her face. Her natural kinky hair was settled in a low bun atop her slender face. Her dark eyes focused intensely on Ruby. Her thin lips parted so sexily as they made commands. "What's your name and what are you doing here?" Ruby heard nothing, all she could focus on was the brown skin beauty. "Answer me!" The woman jammed her with the gun. "I said what's your name and what are you doing here?"
"The name's Ruby Redgrave and do you mind getting this thing out of my face."
"Ok, Ruby. Why are you here?"
"To rescue you," Ruby smirked. "And to thank you for saving us down there. It was you, wasn't it? You were the one who shot the zombies?"
"Yes. Do you and your friends have a death wish? The Z's down there are the hungriest bunch I've come across so far." The woman sighed. "By the way, where are the other two?" She pointed her rifle at Ruby.
"Easy now, I promise we aren't here to cause trouble. My friends went inside."
"Fuck!" The woman sighed. "Turn around," she warned. "Hands behind your back." Ruby did what she was told. Something about all of this excited Ruby. Her excitement grew tenfold when she felt the woman bound her wrists behind her back.
"Ohh kinky," Ruby cooed. The woman spun her around, so they faced each other.
"This is birdeyes, General Killshot, come in." The woman spoke over the radio stuck to her shoulder.
"General Killshot here. Birdeyes, what's the status? Over."
"I have a stray sir and there are two more in the building. Over."
"Are they trouble? Over."
"I don't know sir, but this one looks like a lot of trouble. Over."
"Ok. I'll inform Silent Hawk. Keep an eye on the stray. Be safe. Over and out."
