Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Manifestation of Legend

"Beyond the pass lies the plains under Lord Ector's domain. Lord Ector's manor is there."

"Lord Ector?"

Suya was startled, thinking, Isn't that King Arthur's foster father?

And why would Lord Ector's domain be so close to the capital?

If it were according to the descriptions in Le Morte d'Arthur, it would make sense for Lord Ector to have properties throughout Britain, Wales, and even Scotland.

But this world doesn't seem normal.

After all, which Macedonian Kingdom would be connected to Britain? The Conqueror King has already started conquering King Arthur. What shape is this world even in?

Britain alone, however, seems to resemble the description in Garden of Avalon, with knights capable of tearing apart army formations and mages like Merlin.

The Lord Ector described in Garden of Avalon always lived on his estate with his two sons, training daily, and didn't seem to be very wealthy.

"Yes, that's where we're going. After the second fortress fell, Lord Born's domain gathered a large number of scattered routed soldiers. Most of them retreated towards the Golden Iron Curtain to save their lives, as did we, but unfortunately, we were blocked and slaughtered by the Conqueror King's army. However, some timid ones are still scattered near Lord Ector's manor, afraid to advance."

Merlin spread her hands.

"But, they survived because of that."

Suya nodded. He was unfamiliar with the place, though he could generally understand that the land he was on roughly resembled a British map.

However, he had never been to Britain.

"So, what are we going there for?"

Merlin frowned, thought for a moment, and explained:

"We need people. Just the two of us won't get far in the western part of the kingdom, which is already engulfed in war."

"With your identity, we can gather some scattered soldiers. The west side is impassable now, so we'll have to turn north, bypass the Golden Iron Curtain, and head directly to the capital, Winchester. This seems to be the most feasible path right now."

That certainly sounded logical.

Suya couldn't help but frown.

"But if even you can think of that, wouldn't the Conqueror King think of it too?"

"..." Merlin was stumped by that question. For a moment, she didn't know how to explain.

If even the north was blocked, how would they reach the capital?

And if they couldn't even enter the capital, let alone have Suya inherit the throne.

"Well, we'll just have to take it one step at a time."

Merlin looked forward helplessly, then her gaze hardened.

"However, the routed soldiers still near Lord Ector's manor are the only strength we can rely on."

Suya opened his mouth, feeling a bit powerless.

"You just said they were deserters, and timid ones at that."

"You're not seriously thinking of having me lead this group against the Conqueror King's Macedonian phalanx legions and Companion Cavalry, are you?"

"Also, will these people really listen to me?"

Not to mention that at this point, Arthur Pendragon hadn't even drawn the Sword in the Stone; no one knew who he was, only that he was likely Lord Ector's foster son, a stable boy who wasn't even a knight's squire.

Even after drawing the Sword in the Stone, he was dragged along by a group of nobles and kings, from Epiphany to Candlemas, from Candlemas to Easter, and from Easter to Pentecost.

After such a long delay, Arthur barely managed to ascend to the throne.

After ascending, there was a whole host of other troubles, and it wasn't until the great mage Merlin offered advice and he allied with kings from outside Britain that he truly gained control.

If Arthur, with his royal blood, had such a hard time becoming king,

What about Suya? He was merely a substitute for King Arthur, completely unrelated to the Pendragon family.

Thinking of this, Suya felt a little uneasy, but with Merlin, whom he had just tricked into believing he was the true king, sitting in front of him, he couldn't speak up.

He could only keep it to himself, forcing an awkward but polite smile.

At this moment,

The two of them had ridden far away from the army formation behind them.

To Suya's surprise, after a red signal flare was sent up from the central army's royal banner shortly before, almost all the scout cavalry began to turn their horses and head towards the source of the signal.

During this process, a squad of scout cavalry saw Suya on their path but did not question or intercept him at all.

The entire western flank of the Macedonian army seemed to have been completely cleared, allowing Suya to ride freely.

Something major seemed to have happened within the army behind him.

The movement of the troops everywhere seemed abnormal.

Suya didn't know this was a chain reaction caused by his actions, but he could understand that this was an opportunity.

Before him was the pass leading to what Merlin called Lord Born's domain.

He was just one step away from escaping!

However,

Just then—

Something incredible happened to Suya!

He found himself glowing!

Literally, his body suddenly began to emit light, from dim to dazzling, even brighter than the sun.

Merlin, who was sitting in front of him, felt as if someone had thrown a flash spell into the corner of her vision. Her expression suddenly changed.

"Hm? How could such a violent surge of magical power suddenly occur!?"

Suddenly—

"Whoosh!"

A pillar of light shot up from Suya's body!

Piercing the clouds and the sky!

The pure white pillar of light connected heaven and earth, illuminating the entire western pass.

"Wait, this is the sign of a Noble Phantasm forming! It only appears on the owner of a legend when a legend begins to spread and manifest!"

Merlin's pupils suddenly constricted, and she felt her scalp tingle.

"What did you do?"

"You're asking me?" Suya pointed at himself, bewildered.

"I don't know!"

"Then can you turn off this effect?"

"If this keeps up, we're going to die!"

"How do I turn it off?"

"I don't know either!"

"..." Suya fell silent.

He felt his heart suddenly pound rapidly.

The pillar of light, illuminating the entire western pass, was like a clear marker for the enemy, showing Suya's location even without a map.

It was incredibly conspicuous!

But the problem was, he was in the middle of an escape!

For him, who had just fooled a massive army, to have this happen just as he was about to escape—

It was equivalent to patting his backside and telling the enemy:

Come and get me!

Suya felt his scalp prickle.

Without any hesitation, he immediately spurred his horse frantically, driving the warhorse to accelerate its charge!

"Giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, giddy up!"

"Faster!"

"Damn it, speed up!"

Meanwhile, as Suya bolted in a daze,

On the other side,

Above the long stretch of hills, a figure galloping almost directly towards the western pass suddenly looked up.

The man on horseback had long red hair and a sinister face. Upon seeing the figure marked by the pillar of light,

He couldn't help but reveal a cruel smile.
