Chapter 70 - Call The Police?

"Young Master Carter is here!"

Caroline quickly stood up upon hearing the young man's words, pointing to the man beside her and spoke in a sweet voice.

The young man wiped the sweat off his forehead and swiftly walked over to Brentley, his expression respectful as he addressed him, "Young Master Carter, hello, I'm Gene, a senior account manager from Sunshire City's Industrial and Commercial Bank."

The sales assistants in the showroom were all stunned upon hearing Gene's words. They began to secretly wonder if Brentley was indeed a wealthy heir.

Only Wynter and Jessica looked unimpressed.

"Who would've thought Brentley could find an actor who plays the part so convincingly..." Wynter sneered, glancing at Gene, who was dressed in professional attire.

"Yeah, Brentley really went all out. All this just to trick Caroline into bed? Is it really necessary?" Jessica added with a cold laugh.

"Hello," Brentley Carter replied softly, looking at Gene.

"Young Master Carter, I apologize for being late. I got stuck in traffic on the way here," Gene said, his tone filled with regret.

"No worries. Did you bring the check?" Brentley asked calmly.

"Yes, I did," Gene nodded quickly and pulled a check out of his briefcase. "Young Master Carter, General Manager Griffin has already briefed me. You can fill in any amount on this check. Our bank has always had a partnership with General Manager Griffin. Once you fill in the amount, the check will be valid."

The sales assistants exchanged glances, their earlier skepticism turning into awe. Meanwhile, Wynter and Jessica's expressions remained disdainful, convinced it was all an elaborate act.

"Brentley, how long do you plan on keeping up this act?" Wynter suddenly shouted at him.

Brentley lifted his head slightly to glance at Wynter but said nothing. Instead, he took the check from Gene and handed it to Caroline, his face expressionless. "Fill in the price for the villa."

"Okay... okay!" Caroline nodded excitedly, taking out a pen to write down the villa price that Jessica Rivera had mentioned earlier.

"This check is valid now, right?" Brentley turned to Gene and asked.

"Yes! It's valid now!" Gene nodded quickly.

Brentley Carter took the check from Caroline and walked directly to Jessica Rivera. With an emotionless face, he said, "I am buying this villa now."

"Heh..." Jessica didn't show any surprise at Brentley Carter's words. Instead, she sneered.

"Jessica Rivera, didn't you hear Mr. Carter? He said he's buying the villa!" Caroline shouted at her.

Jessica took the check from Brentley, her expression playful as she looked at it. She said lightly, "I didn't expect your acting to be so convincing. This check looks pretty real too."

"What do you mean by that, Miss?" Gene seemed somewhat puzzled as he asked Jessica, "What do you mean by that?"

Jessica, holding a check with a triumphant smile, replied, "You don't know what I mean? If I'm not mistaken, you're an actor hired by Brentley right? And those checks you brought are all fake, aren't they? If I really sold the villa to Brentley, I'd be the biggest fool here."

"Fake checks?" Gene's eyes flashed with disbelief. He then said seriously, "Ma'am, I think there's been a misunderstanding. I'm an employee of the Bank of Commerce. How could I possibly bring fake checks?"

"How can you prove you're from the Bank of Commerce?" Jessica asked, eyeing Gene suspiciously.

"I..." Gene was taken aback by the question. He quickly rummaged through his briefcase but realized in his haste to leave, he had forgotten his ID badge.

"You claim you're from the Bank of Commerce? Prove it then!" Wynter stepped forward, her expression challenging as she shouted at Gene.

Gene's face showed utter confusion. This was the first time someone had accused him of impersonating a bank employee. "I'm really an employee at the Bank of Commerce, but I was in a rush and forgot my ID badge!" Gene replied, feeling exasperated.

Jessica couldn't help but sneer. "Brentley forgot his bank card, and you forgot your ID badge. You both seem to be using the same excuse!"

She then tossed the check onto the ground and crossed her arms, glaring at Brentley. "Brentley, do you think we're all fools here at the sales office? You just found some random actor and made a fake check to try and trick me into selling the villa? It's laughable! I've worked here long enough to know what real wealth looks like. You think you can pretend to be some rich kid? It's ridiculous!"

Brentley, sitting in his seat, squinted at Jessica, his expression showing a hint of helplessness.

Because Brentley never expected Gene to be so unreliable, it was shocking that a senior account manager couldn't even prove his own identity.

"Miss, I really am from the Bank of Commerce. If you don't believe me, you can call the bank right now to verify!" Gene replied at Jessica, his face full of agitation.

"I don't think it's necessary to call the bank!" Wynter suddenly interjected, then turned to Jessica and said, "Cousin, impersonating a bank employee and forging checks are serious crimes. We should just call the police and have these people arrested!"

"Yes, call the police and have them all arrested!" The other sales associates in the office chimed in.

Caroline panicked when she heard Jessica and the others talking about calling the police. She quickly turned to Gene and shouted, "Aren't you the manager from the Bank? Prove it right now!"

"How am I supposed to prove it? This is the first time I've encountered something like this. I'm just here to deliver a check..." Gene shouted back, his face showing utter helplessness.

"Whatever happens, you can explain it to the police," Jessica said as she took out her phone, ready to call the authorities.

"Jessica, please, don't call the police. We're all colleagues here. There must be some misunderstanding. How could Mr. Carter be a fraud?" Caroline pleaded, grabbing Jessica's arm in desperation.

"Caroline, don't worry. I know you're not in cahoots with him. You must have been deceived by these people too. When the police arrive, I'll vouch for you," Jessica replied calmly before dialing the police.

"What kind of situation requires calling the police?"

At that moment, a middle-aged man's voice suddenly echoed from the entrance of the sales office.

Jessica was taken aback by the voice. She quickly turned her head and saw that the person who had entered was none other than the general manager of the real estate company!

"General Manager Rivera, what brings you here personally today?"

Jessica put down her phone and asked with a bright smile.

"I didn't have much to do today, so I decided to come by and take a look. But before I even got inside, I heard you all shouting about calling the police. What's going on?" The middle-aged man asked with a blank expression.

"General Manager Rivera, here's the situation: this person is pretending to be a manager from the Industrial and Commercial Bank and even brought a fake check. I was just about to call the police!" Jessica pointed at Gene and exclaimed.

General Manager Rivera turned to look at Gene, and his expression immediately froze in confusion. "Manager Gene, what are you doing here?"
