Chapter 1010 - 4184

Chapter 4184: Human Nature

Their mood was naturally quite heavy. They hadn't expected Jialan City to be the first major city impacted by the zombie puppet army, suffering such severe damage. Previously, the attacks had been limited to small villages and hamlets on the outskirts of towns like Licheng, or tiny settlements like Xiaoli Town in Cangzhou's Yingcheng. Crowds certainly wouldn't gather as densely in those places as they did in Jialan City.

So, was Heavenly Fate's operation escalating?

"Quick, seize her! Don't let them escape!" After an enraged shout, several individuals in city guard uniforms rapidly charged in their direction. The stumbling woman at the front, clutching two half-grown children by the hand, could hardly outrun the vicious guards behind them. One guard raised his broadsword, preparing to cut down the woman's head without hesitation.

Mo Lian flicked his finger, sending out a powerful gust of wind that directly snapped the blade. Half the blade ricocheted with a "clang," embedding itself diagonally in a nearby wall.

The guards' expressions instantly changed in unison. They looked at the blade stuck in the wall, then back at the handsome man in his academy uniform, immaculate and graceful like flowing wind. They all took two steps back. They were well aware of how thick the stone bricks of that wall were. How could anyone manage to flick a blade into the wall with just a finger, unless they possessed extraordinary cultivation?

The woman frantically pulled her two children, scrambling on her hands and knees behind Mo Lian and Qiao Mu, repeatedly pleading for help. "Young Master, Young Lady, please save us, please save us."

"What are you doing?" Qiao Mu's eyes were icy as she gazed at the burly men before her. Since when could ordinary civilians be wantonly slaughtered in this city? There were always some beasts who profited from chaos. Were these people guards or bandits?

The leading guard, still somewhat polite, cupped his hands to them. "This woman bears marks of being bitten by a zombie puppet. We are acting under orders."

"No, no!" the woman shrieked in terror, disregarding the public setting. She pulled up her sleeve to show Qiao Mu. "Young Lady, Young Master, they are falsely accusing me! I was not bitten by a zombie puppet."

"These people broke into my home, killed and robbed, murdered my elder brother and sister-in-law, and now they want to harm my two nephews!"

So, the most chaotic element remained human nature.

Qiao Mu's eyes coldly swept over the men, a frigid curve forming on her lips. "Kill them."

"Young Lady, what are you doing??" The leading guard's eyes finally showed a flicker of panic as several formidable young men in black began to surround them from all sides. "We are just doing our job. People bitten by zombie puppets will soon turn into them... Ah!"

A heavy vine whip lashed out, slamming the man against the wall. Qiao Mu's lips were tightly pursed as she gave him a cold glance. As he tried to get up, she lashed out with the whip again. After seven or eight such strikes, the guards were trembling with fear, prostrating themselves on the ground and repeatedly kowtowing.

There was no trace of zombie aura on the woman or the two children. For these guards to dare to pull such a deception on her, Qiao Mu, was utterly ridiculous!

"Jialan City is about to descend into chaos," Mo Lian subtly lifted his head, looking at the dark, heavy sky.

As evening fell, a torrential downpour enveloped the entire Jialan City in mist. Everyone gathered inside the City Lord's Mansion, where the chaotic roars of zombies could be distinctly heard from all directions.

"The City Lord fled with his family."
