Present day
Caleb's POV
Destiny didn't answer his question. At least not in a way that would satisfy his curiousty. She simply shrugged and said "One minute I was home the next I was here".
He didn't know how to feel. He had been just delivered a life-changing piece of news and this woman acted like it was just a regular Tuesday.
It is a regular Tuesday Caspian supplied unhelpfully.
Shush! Caleb scolded him. He needed to think. Nothing made sense about this whole situation. The magic, the witches, a princess coming back from the dead. It just wasn't adding up. He needed answers and he was sure Destiny had some.
He wanted to interrogate her, but experience told him that he would have no luck going that route. He needed to gain her trust, make her lower her guard around him and then he could get answers.
He assessed her trying judge the best way to do that. She was shorter than him by a couple of inches, she had a heart shaped face that was framed by waist length dark chestnut hair. Her nose was small, like a button, placed above soft pink lips. Freckles speckled her pale skin that accentuated her ocean blue eyes. When her eyes met his, his heart seemed to stop and he could feel Caspian trying to push through the surface. He pushed back not wanting his wolfs curiousty to interfere with his train of thought.
His eyes landed on the shovel in her hand and then to the broken fence surrounding the small garden. It appeared the fence was not glamored to look in a state of disrepair, it was actually falling apart. It gave him an idea.
He nodded once accepting her uninforamtive answer, "Well, it's a very cozy place you were transported to. But you're garden needs some work. I'll help you"
Before she could protest he bent down and picked up one of the wood panels hidden underneath a clump of weeds. He turned to her and said "Do you have any nails and a hammer in there?" Indicating the cottage with a tilt of his head, at her nod, he grunted "Good, let's get this fence fixed up".
She stood for a moment assessing him. He wasn't sure if it was going to work. He held his breath and waited for her to tell him off. But then she turned towards the cottage to presumably get the requested materials. When her back was turned he smiled to himself. His foot was in the door.
Olivia's POV
I walked towards my home wondering just why on God's earth I was allowing this stranger to fix up my fence. I should have touched my trigger charm and alerted the Harem of his presence. They would've performed a memory charm and transported him to the nearest pub. It would've felt more like a dream than an actual event to the man.
But I couldn't bring myself to do it. There was something about him that had me wanting to learn more. I didn't want him to leave. So if fixing my fence was going to make him stay I would consent. I would get information and a fixed fence. Seemed like a win/win.
Returning to the garden with the requested items, I found the stranger staring at the broken fence with a slight frown on his face. He hadn't noticed me yet so I took moment to study him a bit more closely.
His face was square with sharp defining cheekbones and a cleft chin. A stubble shadow covered it and showed promise of a beard as thick and dark as his cropped black hair. He had a warriors body, lean, toned and muscular. He moved with confidence only achieved through a lifetime of practice. Without seeing him fight, I intuitively knew he was an excellent fighter. Everything I saw so far indicated a strong and competent Alpha . He was clearly not from the area. None of the wolves around here were competent. Which was why I was able to hide for so long.
He reached forward and wiggled a post in the ground and his frowned deepened to one of disgust. I gasped as the expression reminded me of someone from my past. But who? Clearly someone memorable but that time of my life was so far away that it was hard to place.
"This whole post is rotten" the stranger said. "I'm going to need to dig it out", he looked at the small trowel in my hand and raised an eyebrow "got anything bigger than a gnome shovel ?"
I shook my head, my face reddening. Suddenly I was very self conscious of the state of affairs in the garden. It had never seemed important to repair anything outside. After storms I would come out and see another plank had torn away and I would think 'you live there now' and I would ignore it. Let the wild forest slowly swallow it just like it had done to me. Now I felt like I had abandoned a duty. I used to care that things were properly cared for and a stranger was now here to witness my failure.
"No worries, " he shrugged, oblivious to my embarrassment. "I'll see if I can use physical persuasion to get it out of the ground."
He bent his knees and wrapped his arms around the post. His biceps flexed as he tried to leverage the post out of its seat. He shifted from side to side trying to get it to let go. He grunted with effort.
I watched entranced wondering how those arms would feel around me. I imagined the strength of them holding me close. The heat of his body against mine. What would his lips taste like? I closed my eyes and felt the heat leave my face and surge towards my middle.
Rrrrriiiiinnnnnnnggg
A piercing shrill alarm slammed me out of my fantasy and into the present. Had someone triggered a trap? I looked wildly around preparing for a fight.
The stranger swore and stopped his efforts with the post. "Sorry, that's my phone." Taking it out of his pocket he answered briskly "what do you need?" As he listened to the answer his face grew frustrated. He ran his free hand through his hair and began to pace.
"I'll be there in 10" he told the phone and hung up. He looked at me apologetically. "Urgent business, I need to go. I'll be back though to deal with this post" he gave the offending post a dirty look. Apparently it was an annoyance he wished to be rid of.
Heart hammering and mouth dry from the frequent changes in my emotions , all I could do was nod.
He gave me an assessing look "I'll come back tomorrow if that's okay?" I was surprised he asked, but also relieved that I would see him again so soon.
"Yes that's okay"
He smiled. "Great! I'll try not to startle you this time." He tilted his head in farewell and turned to leave.
Sudden panick over took me "Wait!" I cried and lunged forward and grabbed his hand. The feel of him sent a shock through my fingers and I gasped letting go. His eyes were wide in surprise. Had he felt it too?
"Please don't tell anyone I'm here" I begged trying to ignore the feeling in my fingertips. "Please?"
"I won't " he raised his hand as if to touch my face but thought better of it. Instead he turned around left the way he had come in, the glamour shifting slightly as he passed through.
That's odd I thought. How did he do that?
For the first time I wondered how he found me in the first place. I had been so startled by his appearance and everything that happened afterwards it never occured to me that him finding me at all was an anomaly.
I puzzled over it for the remainder of the day. A certain suspicion began to formulate in my mind. If I was right, he may be someone who could really help me. And not just with my fence. If he was what I suspected him to be, he would have a lot of motivation for keeping me alive. He would need me, and I predicted probably sooner than he realized.
I went to bed thinking about him. Speculations of what he was rotated through my brain. Eventually though it shifted to that touch. The feeling of fire in my finger tips. The strange attraction i had felt while watching him work. Even now I longed to feel the stubble of his beard on my face.
I felt the blood rush between my thighs once more and I let my hand wander towards my wet slit. My fingers circled my clit while I continued to imagine the taste of him. I pretended my fingers were his and thrust them deep into my core. Hitting that delicious spot of arousal, pleasure sweeped through my body. I moved faster and faster, my hips moving in the rhythm of my fingers demanding more until I tightened around them and found my release. I sighed momentarily boneless and felt sleep coming for me.
It was in that moment I realized, I didn't even know his name.
