Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: So Strong! Truly Powerful! I Choose Rainbow Life

White Barrage, a Trap Card that can only be activated when you take damage from a monster battle or card effect, deals 700 points of fixed damage to the opponent.

However, if there's a second or third copy of "White Barrage" already in your Graveyard that wasn't activated from the field, it deals even more damage—each additional "White Barrage" adds 300 extra damage.

"It's not over yet! I'll chain White Barrage with another Trap Card—Nurse Angel! Activate!"

After White Barrage, Manjome chained and activated the Trap Card Nurse Angel. Just as its name suggests, this card restores the user's Life Points.

What's more, between White Barrage and Nurse Angel, there's a kind of symbolic "black and white" contrast. Why? Because while one deals a fixed 700 damage, the other restores a fixed 1000 LP. And just like White Barrage can deal additional damage based on how many copies exist in the Graveyard, Nurse Angel restores more LP the more copies are there.

An angel in a nurse uniform descended from the sky, showering Manjome with radiant white light, instantly restoring 1000 LP. Meanwhile, from Yuya Sakaki's side, a mob of goblins charged in with weapons, dealing 700 damage—ignoring his new hero "Fountain"—plus an extra 100 points in burn damage from Hell Warrior's effect.

Manjome: 3900 LP → 4900 LP

Yuya Sakaki: 4000 LP → 3200 LP

"Not bad, that chain."

With only 1200 ATK, Hell Warrior was a clear bait target in attack position—anyone would want to crash into it, even knowing there'd be burn damage in return. But no one expected Manjome to use Hell Warrior as a decoy, chaining his set cards White Barrage and Nurse Angel to create a sharp LP advantage.

Unfortunately for him, Yuya's "Fountain" happened to counter exactly this kind of turn-based strategy.

"I Set two cards face-down. Then, during my End Phase, Fountain's effect activates! At the end of the turn, I recover 200 LP for every 'Hero' monster I control."

He only had one Hero (Fountain) out at the moment, but that's fine—once more Heroes come out, he'll be recovering 1000 LP a turn like nothing.

Yuya Sakaki: 3200 LP → 3400 LP

"My turn! Draw!"

Manjome didn't look at the card he drew right away. Instead, he activated the final set card on his field:

"Continuous Trap – Call of the Haunted! I revive the 'Hell Warrior' that was destroyed in my Graveyard in Attack Position!"

The classic Call of the Haunted trap successfully brought Hell Warrior back from "hell." But that wasn't the end—Manjome had more Hell Warriors to summon.

"And at the moment Hell Warrior is successfully revived, I activate the Quick-Play Spell Infernal Reckless Summon from my hand! That lets me Special Summon two more 'Hell Warrior' copies from my Deck!"

Thanks to Infernal Reckless Summon, two more Hell Warriors with 1200 ATK were pulled directly from his Deck onto the field. Now, Manjome had three sources of burn damage from reflected battle effects.

"Come on then, summon your second and third copies of 'Masked HERO: Fountain' from your hand or Deck!"

Infernal Reckless Summon can only be activated when a monster with 1500 or less ATK is Special Summoned successfully to your field. When that happens, all copies of that monster in your hand or Deck can be Special Summoned. Your opponent also gets to choose one face-up monster on their field and do the same.

But even after waiting a while, Manjome didn't see a second Fountain appear. A sweatdrop slowly formed on his forehead.

"Don't tell me... that 'Masked HERO: Fountain' is the only copy in your whole Deck?"

Well… you're not wrong. Masked HERO cards with unique names in Yuya's Deck only exist as single copies. Unlike his usual "Elemental HERO" cards—which you can easily obtain multiple copies of as long as you've got the money—this Masked HERO series is brand new, and cards with individual names only appear once per Deck. (At least for Monster Cards.)

"Tch, what a pity~! With only one copy of Fountain, you can't enjoy the full benefits of this card, huh?"

Manjome spread his hands in a "what can you do" gesture, his face full of mock regret. No matter how rare a card is, in a Duel, that alone doesn't give you any real advantage.

"Next, I target one of the Hell Warriors to activate the Equip Spell 'Hell Alliance'! For every other Hell Warrior besides the equipped one on the field, the equipped Hell Warrior gains 800 ATK!"

The previous Reckless Summon was set up for this Equip Spell. Since the only copies of Hell Warrior on the field are all under Manjome's control, the equipped Hell Warrior gains 2 × 800 = 1600 ATK.

(Hell Warrior, ATK: 1200 → 2800)

"Go, Hell Warrior! Destroy that hero who hides his true identity behind a mask!"

A 2800 ATK monster attacking a 1300 ATK monster—if this attack connects, it'll drop Yu Ye's LP below 2000. Then, with the other two Hell Warriors attacking directly, Manjome could practically achieve an OTK!

Faced with the slash of energy from a Hell Warrior nearly rivaling Seto Kaiba's ace monster Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Yu Ye remained completely unshaken. With his naturally calm demeanor, he activated his elemental powers, raising a blue curtain of water before him.

"Nani?!"

Just as the water curtain rose, the Hell Warrior's slash landed. But the moment the energy wave touched the watery veil, it instantly transformed into a vortex that absorbed the entire attack, leaving Yu Ye completely unharmed behind it.

The sight left Manjome stunned—what the heck was that?

"Fountain has another effect: he cannot be destroyed by battle against monsters with 1900 or more ATK."

And that's why the water curtain absorbed the slash so effortlessly. But Manjome quickly countered with, "Even if he's not destroyed by battle, he still takes battle damage!"

To answer that, Yu Ye swiftly waved his hand and activated a set card:

"Trap Card — Rainbow Life! By discarding one card from my hand, until the end of this turn, any damage I would take from your effects becomes Life Point recovery instead!"

With Fountain's battle indestructibility against monsters over 1900 ATK and the activation of Rainbow Life, Yu Ye's LP skyrocketed—instantly restoring to match Manjome's at 4900 LP!

"And at the same time, the effect of the monster I discarded to activate Rainbow Life—Elemental HERO: Shadow Mist—activates!"

Elemental HERO... Shadow Mist?

As the figure of a female warrior clad in black armor with flowing blue hair appeared beside Yu Ye, Manjome's forehead popped up with another question mark: When did the Elemental HERO series get a heroine like this?

"When Shadow Mist is sent to the Graveyard, I can add one 'HERO' monster—excluding herself—from my Deck to my hand."
