Christmas Eve,
Saionji Mansion
With their busy lives, Christmas had always remained a close affair in the Saionji household.
The Mansion was decorated to the brim, but there were no guests.
In the Misaki Hall, Luke was seated opposite his stepmother, both eying the sketch she had drawn in the morning.
Luke canceled the Spirit Vision and rubbed his eyes.
"I see a dress… a gown…" he interpreted it for her. "Maroon…"
Misaki Saionji eyed the boy oddly. For the last two months, he had been spending almost all afternoons reading her sketches.
Not everything that he said came true, but most of them did, and that was saying something given her experience with her Quirk — Future Sketch.
Luke, on the other hand, found himself standing against a bottleneck.
He had been acting as a Seer for months now, with the limited resources available to him.
He couldn't just go out and read palms or divine something for others, or, as Miss Justice said, he could have digested the potion long ago.
Still, the bottleneck persisted like a glass waiting for that last crack before shattering.
Luke looked at Misaki and asked, "Did you already decide which gown you will be wearing when father comes back?"
Misaki's gaze flattened at the boy. The way he talks… is odd. It's like he's — old.
Mrs. Saionji held conflicted emotions in her heart.
The boy, as promised, had already signed a notarized document, declaring that he would not make claims for any property of the Saionji Group.
Not only that, but he had also claimed that after becoming 18-year-old, he would leave the Saionji Family altogether.
This should have pleased her the most, but to get what she wanted without facing any issue… felt so strange.
Regardless of her feelings, Misaki had decided to tolerate the boy's presence, given he had a knack for reading her sketches.
Who knew when another attack would happen?
What if the Villain behind the Meta Puppets incident decided to attack Saionji Mansion?
If there was any chance of knowing it beforehand, then she would do everything in her power to know it.
"What do you think?" Misaki answered with a question.
Luke remembered his experiences as a Seer and fell into contemplation.
He had been going out with Sand on hunts almost every week since the spy incident.
Unlike before, no one survived Sand's assassination the first time. Meanwhile, Luke acted as support, barely exchanging moves with anyone.
Still, he had progressed a lot as a Seer by taking help from divinations and assisting Sand with them.
"I… can't say…" Luke admitted. "If you have already decided, then your Sketch only confirmed your choice. But… if you have not decided, and you decide to wear the maroon gown now, then aren't you dictating whether to bring the sketch to reality or not?"
Misaki scrapped her long nails on the sofa.
How could a mere 14-year-old boy, who hadn't been to school, and had no friends, other than a raunchy bird, could have such philosophical thoughts?
Is there a secret behind him? His background? Or something related to parents? Misaki asked herself. Maybe that's why Reijirou decided to keep him here.
Misaki knew the dream revelation her husband had some six years ago. But she didn't know the exact details.
What she did know was that after the revelation, her husband decided to adopt a Quirkless boy, attracting worldwide mockery.
Very well… Misaki let out a breath. I will humor you…
She leaned back on the sofa and stared at her incomprehensible sketch.
"All divinations are lies," Misaki said after a while. "Until they become truth, they are but choices.
"Sometimes, these choices are in your hands. You decide whether to bring that lie to reality… You decide whether to turn the lies into truths…
"Sometimes, the world dictates that for you. For example, the breaking of cup at our first meeting here.
"What you saw on the canvas was a lie. It was a lie until the very moment the maid walked in and she slipped.
"If I had super speed, then I could have decided to not turn that lie into the truth. But I don't have such strength. As such, it was the world that dictated it for me."
Luke looked down, holding his chin.
"But if you had super speed, then would you have sketched a broken cup, to begin with?" he asked.
This time, it was Misaki whose thoughts stirred.
"Hmmm…" she hummed, drumming her fingers on the sofa's arm. "Let me correct myself, then.
"All divinations are lies, but the nature of those lies resonate with individual strength."
Yes, Luke nodded within. If the cup was meant to break, then it would have broken by any means.
If Misaki had super speed, then maybe the cup would have broken in a way that made her speed useless. Or… she could have decided to break the cup herself.
"Alright," Misaki said, standing up. "It's enough for today."
"Thank you," Luke said with a smile before walking out of the hall.
Misaki stared as the boy disappeared. Then, she looked back at the sketch she had drawn for Luke to interpret, and… let out a small smile.
…
An hour later,
"Sorry," Luke apologized to Aina. "I got you in trouble."
Reijirou hadn't punished or rebuked Aina for forcing him to take Luke to Momo's party. But there were subtle changes in her lifestyle that became apparent as weeks passed by.
Wearing a red frock, Aina smiled wryly.
"At least no one died," she said. "And you activated your Quirk… That's what matters, no? Father told me you will be applying for UA High as well?"
Luke nodded.
"Turning a stupid bird into a giant stupid bird…"
Rikuya walked up to them, wearing a white t-shirt and donning a smirk on his face.
He frowned at his sister briefly before looking back at Luke. "Tell me, do you really think you can get into UA with a pathetic Quirk like that? Don't you feel you were better off remaining Quirkless? I know I would have…"
It was a comedic sight.
If it had been before, then Rikuya would have truly stood out.
Now, with Luke already being taller than him, and especially after gaining muscles on his previous scrawny self, he looked like a monster standing next to Rikuya.
Still, Luke had a taciturn personality.
Unlike…
Nyx fluttered down and perched on Luke's shoulder. "Don't worry about his Quirk," she cawed, narrowing her eyes at Rikuya. "Worry about your penis. Not all have small ones, you know."
"Nyx!" Luke gasped.
Rikuya's face went red in shock and anger. "How dare you?!"
Next to him, blushing, Aina turned around and walked away.
Before Rikuya could act, Misaki walked in along with Reijirou and called the boys and the girl to open presents.
Luke let out a breath as Rikuya walked away after giving him a stare.
"Did you have to be mean to him?" he asked Nyx.
Nyx rolled her eyes. "I didn't lie!"
Luke shook his head.
Then, he looked at the family of the four.
Since the matter of his having a Quirk had come out, his father had gained a few wrinkles from stress.
Mr. Reijirou was smiling, Luke saw, but there was a constant line on his forehead, as if his thoughts were troubling him.
Meanwhile, wearing a gorgeous maroon gown, Misaki was smiling merrily at Aina and Rikuya, giving them their presents.
"I don't belong… here… with them…" Luke said, suddenly realizing the truth.
He looked at the Saionji family and repeated the three core principles of being a Seer he had figured out.
Divination isn't all-powerful, Luke told himself, closing his eyes. And all divinations are lies until they become truths.
Divinations are nothing but choices. It is I who dictates whether to bring those choices to reality…
Luke closed his eyes, the distinct feeling of digesting the Seer Potion resonating with his spirituality.
And as he walked forward, smiling a little, he remembered…
… the sketch he had interpreted for Misaki didn't have a maroon gown, but — green.
