"It's better to pack up and leave for the airport now," Lyra stated, her voice urgent.
"It's only a matter of time until the variants return." Adam agreed. He returned to the bunker, using the universal tool to carry as many resources as possible to the truck.
Lyra carefully placed Azrael in the truck's seats, laying him down, and the universal tool automatically strapped him in safely.
With everything loaded, Adam transformed the truck into a flying vehicle. Adam and Lyra got in, and the vehicle slowly ascended, moving away from the mansion and the city.
Lyra pinpointed the airport's location, and Adam steered the vehicle higher into the clouds, aiming for undetectability. As they moved through the clouds, Lyra's voice came through the neuro-link: "Prepare for battle, Adam. I detect multiple zombies and variants at the airport."
Infiltrating the Airport
Adam slowly descended onto the airport rooftop, stopping to survey the planes below. Lyra scanned, finding a perfectly sized plane for them to use. However, its fuel was insufficient.
"There's more than enough fuel in the larger passenger planes for long-distance travel,"
Lyra informed him. "We'll have to land at multiple airports to refuel before we can reach civilization."
Lyra instructed Adam to fly towards the small airplane and land there while she went down to fight off the zombies. They needed a clear landing zone, as their flying vehicle was vulnerable.
Lyra disembarked, gripping her machete and spear. She pierced the side of the jet bridge, sliding down, then sprinted through, jumping down the side staircase. On the ground floor, she swiftly sliced through a couple of zombies blocking her path. Lyra moved with precision, cutting down zombies left and right.
A variant leaped towards Lyra. She met its charge head-on, thrusting her spear straight into its body. Pivoting, she used the spear's momentum to push the variant upwards, its pounce redirected, and its back hitting the ground. The variant was thrown backward as Lyra swung her spear, slicing the necks of multiple zombies before rushing towards the downed variant. Pulling a machete from behind her back, she deftly sliced off the variant's head.
More variants appeared, quickly making Lyra a target, drawing both zombies and variants towards her. Adam, meanwhile, landed the flying vehicle beside the small plane, and it reverted back to a truck.
Adam instantly transformed it into his projectile system, firing down at the horde chasing Lyra. Lyra narrowly avoided a sharp claw from behind, using her spear to propel herself upward. Adam unleashed a huge boulder from his weapon, crushing the horde and variants alike.
Lyra continued to run, acting as bait, while Adam systematically gunned down the remaining zombies and variants pursuing her. Lyra finally ran back to Adam, catching her breath. "Outside the airport is clear now," she panted, "Inside, however, is still full of them."
