Agares certainly couldn't break through directly into the city by attacking them, especially since he was a high-level fugitive in the Kingdom of Caer Vireth and the Great Empire. Doing so would be the same as foolishly handing himself over.
'I have to think of another way,' Agares said to himself.
Just as he was waiting in line, Agares' attention was diverted to the side when he saw a horse-drawn carriage carrying supplies for the border castle. An idea came to mind.
He separated himself from the line of people and stepped back, following the horse-drawn carriage. No one suspected Agares; the people there were too busy thinking about themselves.
As Agares remembered, Hurdor was the only city closest to the border castle. The city was also responsible for sending food and weapons to the castle, but Agares still did not know their delivery schedule.
His only task now was to wait for the horse-drawn carriage from the border castle to return to Hurdor. When it arrived, Agares would sabotage it and disguise himself as a supply delivery officer.
Agares waited for five hours in the bushes near the supply delivery route, his eyes focused on the road. His attention was diverted when he saw a horse-drawn carriage passing by without any cargo.
Agares smiled slightly. He quickly stepped out of the bushes and stood in the middle of the road. This startled the horse-drawn carriage driver, who pulled the reins, bringing the carriage to a halt.
"Who are you? Get out of the way!" ordered the driver.
The man remained silent. He drew his sword and threw it forcefully forward, striking the driver right in the neck. Without any fighting skills, the driver failed to dodge and the sword pierced his neck.
"Akkh!"
The horse-drawn carriage driver writhed in pain, blood pouring from his mouth and his eyes red. In a matter of seconds, the middle-aged horse-drawn carriage driver was dead.
Agares climbed onto the horse-drawn carriage and pulled out his sword. He stretched out his hand to obtain the darkness essence from the man.
[DING! Congratulations, you have obtained darkness essence]
[Darkness Essence: 6]
Agares nodded. Not only did he obtain the darkness essence, but he also searched the man's shirt and pants pockets, finding several items that belonged to him.
He found two black pouches, one containing gold coins and the other silver coins. Agares also got a token containing a letter of passage for the man, so he could easily pass through Hurdor City and the border castle.
Agares clutched the gray token in his hand, feeling confident that his plan would work.
"With this, there should be no problem when I arrive at the city gate."
The man removed his light armor and sword, then stored both inside the horse-drawn cart. He dragged the man's body and removed his shirt and trousers, also cleaning the bloodstains from the shirt.
Now, Agares looked like a supply delivery officer, especially since he was holding the travel token. There was no reason for the city guards to stop him.
After making sure everything was in order, Agares drove the horse-drawn cart at a steady pace toward Hurdor City. Lucky! No one had seen Agares' actions, so he didn't have to get his hands dirty again.
Agares waited in line with other horse-drawn carts. When his turn came, Agares immediately handed the token to the city soldier on guard.
"Supply delivery for the 5th today. Is that correct?" asked the soldier, activating the gray token and looking at the information panel that popped up above it.
"Correct."
"I heard that saber monster went to the border castle? Do you know anything about that?" asked the soldier.
'Just as I thought! They tracked me to the border castle,' replied Agares.
Agares smiled and laughed, trying to be friendly with the soldier inspecting him, "Of course not. I'm just a delivery officer; why would they tell me?"
The soldier nodded without looking at Agares, too focused on the information on the pass. After confirming everything, the soldier returned the ash token to Agares and allowed the man to enter the city.
The plan worked! They were too stupid to recognize Agares in his deliveryman's uniform. Still, he had to remain vigilant. It seemed that the Kingdom of Caer Vireth would not sit idly by and let Agares live.
'I have to find out who leaked my identity to them!' Agares thought.
He directed the horse-drawn carriage to a corner of the city, removed the humiliating attire, and put on his armor and black cloak again. Agares walked away from the carriage to blend in with the people in the city.
In response to the situation, Agares had to take some preventive measures to prevent them from discovering his identity.
A mask? Too suspicious. Camouflage magic? Agares was not a wizard. Adventurer? They might check Agares' individual status.
'Ah, damn it! I don't know the best way to camouflage myself,' Agares complained.
As he stepped onto the main street of the city, he glanced to the side and saw a blacksmith's shop. They sold weapons, armor, and other equipment for knights or adventurers.
'A sword is too flashy for some people. Maybe I need to replace it with a spear,' explained Agares.
The man decided to visit and was greeted by a tomboyish female employee with shoulder-length black hair and rolled-up sleeves. Agares could see sweat dripping down her face and clothes.
"Do you need anything, sir?" asked the woman.
Agares drew his sword, "I want to sell this sword and buy a spear."
The woman nodded. She took Agares' sword and selected a suitable spear for him. As Agares was about to take the spear, an electric shock sent him flying backwards.
[WARNING!]
[Hosts with the Hero Job cannot use weapons other than those classified as Hero weapons]
Agares was shocked. The red warning panel that usually appeared during emergencies now appeared after Agares tried to use the spear. The tomboyish woman looked startled, then walked toward the man.
"Are you okay?" asked the woman, worried.
The man nodded, brushing off his dusty cloak as he took back the sword from the woman.
"I'm fine."
"Are you a Knight with the Job Hero? Am I right?" the tomboyish woman asked, sounding enthusiastic.
"No. You've got the wrong person."
"I might just be an ironworker's apprentice, but I can read just fine," the woman explained, pointing at the man.
"You are a Knight with the Job Hero!" she stated firmly.
Agares fell silent, turning his face away and refusing to speak to the annoying tomboy woman.
The woman narrowed her eyes. She tried to piece together everything that had happened with what she knew.
"A Knight with the Hero Job… then failed to use a spear… but is fine with a sword," the woman explained, speaking as she circled Agares.
Agares knew what the woman was about to say. She must suspect that Agares was the wanted saber.
"Your job must be Saber, right?" the woman asked.
The man acted quickly! He drew his sword and put his dark energy into the black blade. Agares threatened the woman with the blade at her neck.
"When will you stop talking?" Agares asked, threateningly.
"W-Wait… I won't do anything bad to you. Why are you threatening me?!" the tomboyish woman asked, annoyed.
"You know too much about me."
The woman swallowed hard. The excitement of having visitors had made her act overly dramatic, even disturbing the privacy of the guests. She sighed deeply, unable to stop Agares.
"I can't beat you. So just kill me," she pleaded, resigned.
Agares was silent. Receiving such a request made him feel like an evil and cruel man.
Slowly, he stopped the dark energy from his sword and sheathed it again. Agares tried to make the situation more conducive.
"I'm not a ruthless person who kills people for no reason," explained Agares.
Without saying goodbye, the man hurriedly left the place. However, one thing was certain: the tomboyish woman had seen that Agares' sword blade was dull.
"I see your sword is damaged. Did you find it in the junk?" asked the woman, catching Agares' attention.
"What?"
"If you want, I have a much better sword than that one. I can show it to you," the woman revealed.
Agares reflexively drew his sword and looked at it closely. What the woman said was true; Agares' sword blade was damaged.
"Alright."
