Chapter 6 - Training

The sun shone brightly on a clearing within the Flynn compound. Though if one narrowed their eyes and focused really well, they would have noticed the hell that its state was.

There were many concaves on the ground, looking like it had gone through a meteor shower or something of the like, remnant energies had wrecked the topography of the clearing such that no plant could grow there again. The trees had been reduced to mere stumps, with the rest of their bodies scattered all around.

In the beginning, the cleaners with Earth magic had bothered themselves to restoring the clearing each day after Ezekiel's training, but they had given up after the first year and the couple hadn't bothered to order them to perform such a wasteful task.

Ezekiel himself didn't mind either, in fact he welcomed the scattered debris caused by the destruction as it taught him to be aware of his environment while fighting. His parents had also fully agreed to train him since the day he had passed his test. They didn't seem to be worried about the origin of their son's powers. After all, the first Awakened to discover the different types of classes also seemed to gain their powers out of nowhere.

Today was one of the days when his father would decide to perform a practical fight with him so he could be seen standing carefully at the center at the field. In the year that had past, Ezekiel had managed to recreate various blueprints through multiple trial and error methods, and with the help of the shop, at the cost of some Exp, he could combine those blueprints into more powerful ones. This was why his current getup was a bit different from a year ago.

His footgear had gotten leaner and more streamlined than before, this time ending at his knee. And his glove had been replaced by a gauntlet that ended at his shoulder, featuring the same color as the rest of his gear, a white color with golden stream line patterns.

The MCR on his back had also gotten a bit bulkier, due to its most recent upgrades, allowing the amount of Psionic energy it could store increase, an increase of about ten times the normal amount. Right now, using the equipment he had made last year would barely take more than 0.5% per use. His visor had stayed the same, due to the fact that the amount of Exp needed to upgrade the blueprint could make him lose a level.

And due to the grueling training his parents had put him through his stats had also increased during the long year of training.

"Come on, dad. You can't hide forever." As he spoke, his attention was fully on the 3d map that was displayed on the Visor's screen, continuously updating itself with new information as it searched his surroundings for signs of life. 'If dad was not using silent casting, this would be much easier.'

Suddenly his map wavered, revealing a red sign just behind him. Immediately his legs shifted, his Wind chaser releasing sounds as amethyst energy erupted from the thrusters at his soles and the additional ones situated at his calves, sending him to the side with its force and allowing him dodge the wooden dagger aimed at his nape.

Soon a figure emerged from the shadows, revealing his dad who had shadow strands licking at his skin. Ezekiel turned around, raising his hand with a gathering amethyst energy at his palm before he fired. "Psion Blast."

Matthew chuckled, snapping his fingers to create a pure mana shield that defended him against the attack. He snapped his fingers once again, his mana flaring as the shadows around him seemed to shiver before stretching out and solidifying into thorns that launched themselves at his son. "Shadow Thorns!"

The mechanic smirked in response. "Boost mode." His gauntlet hissed as it shifted, opening up shafts on its elbow region to reveal a thruster while another smaller shaft revealed itself at the top of his wrist.

Psionic energy erupted, aiding his speed as he punched out with scary accuracy, thanks to his guiding system and Laura, smashing the shadow thorns that approached him while he maneuvered about the clearing.

"Then we'll see how well you fare during close combat." The C Ranker smirked and made a grasping gesture with his hand, summoning tendrils from Ezekiel's shadow to hold on to his leg. "Shadow's Grasp."

The mechanic frowned and released a wave of Psionic energy through his feet, blasting a hole in the floor below him and releasing himself from his father's power. Unfortunately, he had wasted too much time and a glaring red flashed in his map.

His dad's smiling face and sinister uppercut appeared right before his eyes.
