Chapter 4 - Part 4: The Oath That Binds

The ring burned against her skin.

Not with heat—

but with memory.

Lira stood frozen, her hand clutching her mother's silver ring as the man's voice lingered at the door.

> "I'm not here to hurt you… But you've already started a war."

His voice was steady. Controlled.

Too calm for someone she'd nearly killed.

She took a shaky breath.

Then — quietly — she unlocked the door.

Just a crack.

And there he was.

Bandaged shoulder. Bloodstained shirt. But his eyes—sharp. Focused. Like he was seeing her for the first time... or remembering her from a nightmare.

> "You're not supposed to be here," she whispered.

> "Neither are you," he replied.

A pause. Silence stretched between them, heavy and dangerous.

> "Why did you follow me?" she asked.

> "Because you took something that doesn't belong to you."

He raised his hand—held up the man's phone.

The one she stole.

> "This phone wasn't just his. It holds codes. Names. Oaths."

That word again.

Oath.

Something about it scratched at the edge of her mind—ancient, violent, buried under fire and betrayal.

> "Who are you?" she asked finally.

He looked at her, for a long, burning second.

> "I'm the one who took the oath with your mother."

Her heart stopped.

The ring flared warm again.

> "And now," he added,

"Sijuki knows you're wearing it."
