Chapter 16 - Chapter 4: Robes and Introductions

Madam Malkin's robe shop was warm and quiet.

Soft lights glowed from the walls, and robes floated gently around the room. A friendly witch walked between the racks, helping young witches and wizards try on their school clothes.

Harris stepped inside with his foster parents, Mara and Thom, and Professor McGonagall. He looked around with wide eyes. Everything felt alive, even the measuring tape that slithered like a snake in the air.

"First-year robes for Hogwarts," McGonagall told the shopkeeper.

The witch smiled. "Of course. Come this way, dear."

She led Harris to a small platform in front of a tall mirror. He stood still as the tape measure zipped around his arms, legs, and waist, taking his size by itself.

Just then, the door opened behind him.

Harris glanced over his shoulder.

A girl walked in with her mother. She was about his age, with soft blonde hair and cool blue eyes. She wore a green dress with silver edges and held herself with quiet confidence, like she knew exactly who she was.

She stepped up on the platform beside him.

She glanced at Harris and then at the mirror. "You're the boy from Ollivanders," she said softly.

Harris nodded. "And you're the girl who stared at me like I was a puzzle."

The girl gave a small smile. "I'm Summer Greengrass."

"Harris Wells," he replied.

Summer looked at him for a moment. "You're not from any wizarding family I know."

"I was adopted," Harris said. "Found near a well. Raised by Muggles."

Summer tilted her head. "That sounds like something out of a storybook."

Harris gave a small shrug. "Not my choice. Just how it happened."

They stood in silence for a moment as the magical tape measured Summer's height.

Then she spoke again. "You held your wand differently. Like someone who's used one before."

Harris looked down. He hadn't noticed he was still holding his new wand. "I guess I'm just excited."

"I could feel the magic from across the street," Summer said. "Your wand reacted strongly."

"You felt it?" Harris asked, surprised.

"Of course," she said. "Magic that powerful always leaves a trace."

The witch returned and handed both of them their packed robes. Summer turned to leave but paused.

"I'll see you on the train," she said.

Harris smiled. "Looking forward to it."

She gave him a polite nod, then walked out with her mother. Her steps were calm and graceful, like someone used to being watched. She didn't look back.

Mara came over and whispered, "She seemed nice."

"She was," Harris said. "And a little scary."

Professor McGonagall chuckled. "She's from the Greengrass family. They're quiet, but not to be underestimated."

"Should I be worried?"

"Only if you make her your enemy," McGonagall said with a knowing smile. "But something tells me that won't happen."

Harris looked at the door where Summer had left.

He wasn't sure why, but he knew he'd see her again. And something told him… they would become something more than just classmates.
