Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

When the sausage roasting machine in the convenience store was turning for the second time, I was using a screwdriver to pry the battery buckle of the electric bike. The newly replaced battery of Brother Zhang was "hissing" and emitting oil. Kai Lan was stuffing the baby's swaddle into the innermost layer of the incubator, which was padded with the sticky notes with favorable comments that I had collected over the past three years of running orders. They were all handwritten "thank you" by customers. The crooked handwriting was half exposed on the edge of the swaddle, which looked very much like the encrypted formula in Professor Kai's laboratory log.

"Xiao Ming, the frequency of the sausage roasting machine is adjusted to 1378." Kai Lan pulled off the note paper on the cash register, which had a crooked metal stick pattern drawn on it, "Just like the vibration frequency of the electric bike chain when you gave me rice balls." As she spoke, the broken silver bracelet chain suddenly straightened and pointed to the door of the convenience store. Three men in suits were staring at the glass door, and the words "Xinyuan Technology Cleaning Group" were reflected in the reflection of their work badges. I noticed that one of them had some silver powder on his cuffs, which was exactly the same as the makeup touch-up powder in SUSAN's powder box.

The broken piece of the metal stick in my arms "clanged" and hit the incubator. This was its fourth warning. I picked up the spare lunch box next to the microwave - it was given by the customer when I delivered the clay pot porridge last week. At this moment, I was fixing the broken piece of the metal stick with a sausage skewer, which was very much like the "hot air firewall" mentioned by SUSAN. Kailan suddenly pointed to the interlayer of the lunch box: "Look, the smiley face drawn by the customer overlaps with the crack of the metal stick, just like what my father said in the laboratory, 'Emotion is the best code check bit'."

"Go through the back kitchen!" I dragged Kailan into the storage room. I have practiced this "convenience store escape technique" 23 times, all of which are experiences accumulated from avoiding inspections by the Industrial and Commercial Bureau. The baby suddenly giggled, and the golden light from his wrist swept across the shelf. The "buy one get one free" label of the expired rice ball automatically changed to "free trial", and the red light of the surveillance camera turned into the warm yellow of the grilled sausage. Kai Lan touched the data stream on the edge of the price tag and muttered in a low voice: "This rewriting has the same frequency as the cracks in SUSAN's powder. Could it be that the ability overload will..." Before he finished speaking, he was interrupted by the roar of the electromagnetic gun.

When the electromagnetic gun of Xinyuan Technology exploded outside the convenience store, I was using frozen steamed bread slices to jam the back door lock - this is Kai Lan's folk method to prevent drunks during the night shift. Kai Lan suddenly pointed at the baby's palm: "She is rewriting the price list!" The price tags of the oden on the shelf all changed to "1378℃", which is the core temperature of the metal stick when it first glowed. I saw a line of tiny words printed on the lower right corner of the price tag: "1903 Laboratory Designated Ingredients - Same as the logo on the inside of Brother Zhang's ID card." Brother Zhang's electric welder was banging at the scrap yard, and he roared from the intercom: "They used the remains of Brother Chen's robotic arm! The frequency of the electromagnetic gun resonates with your electric car battery!" I suddenly remembered the gears that SUSAN mentioned, and touched the metal stick fragment in my work clothes pocket. The reflection at the broken end was exactly the same as the gap of Brother Chen's robotic arm gear. "Brother Zhang, do the welding points of the bracket you welded correspond to the coordinates of Professor Kai's laboratory?" I shouted into the intercom, and in return there was a burst of electric current noise, but I could vaguely hear the whisper of "03 Division has been activated."

The glass door of the convenience store exploded with a "bang", and the ID cards of the three cleaners glowed blue, but they paused when they saw the small sun sticky note on the incubator. "Li Xiaoming," the leading man raised the electromagnetic gun, and the system bullet screen jumped on the lens, "Do you think the broken frequency of the sausage machine can block the first-generation controller?" The silver powder on his cuffs fell and spelled out the abbreviation "SL" on the ground - exactly the same as the letters on the lid of SUSAN's powder box.

Kai Lan suddenly pressed the powder dispenser on the sausage machine, and the silver bracelet chain and the machine gears made a buzzing sound. The baby's golden light swept across the convenience store freezer, and the cartoon pattern on the frozen dumpling packaging bag came to life, holding hands to form the abbreviation "XM+KL", which looked very much like the mark SUSAN had burned on the controller. "This is the data mirroring technique that my father taught me on the sausage wrapping paper!" Kai Lan shouted while dodging, "Remember what he said, 'The best firewall is the fireworks of the world'?"

"Try this." I picked up the incubator and smashed it at the electromagnetic gun. The sausage oil paper in the box burned in the golden light, forming a mini metal stick-shaped fire circle. The lenses of the cleaners were suddenly covered with snowflakes, and the bullet screen turned into the "sizzle" sound of the sausage grilling machine - that was the interference code woven by the newborn with the aroma of sausages. Only then did I realize that the pattern of burning oil paper was exactly the same as the energy matrix of Professor Kai's laboratory.

The battle unfolded in the heat of the oden. I used a colander to block the electromagnetic gun, and Kai Lan lifted the baby above her head, letting the golden light sweep across every shelf. The most amazing thing was that when the baby saw my photo on the sticky note wall, all the cleaners' work cards suddenly popped up "Abnormal Order: Emotional Data Overload", just like the first time I helped Kai Lan move the express delivery, the system suddenly crashed. "There is no code for "thank you" in their algorithm!" Kai Lan smiled and pointed to the glowing sticky notes, but I noticed that Brother Zhang's intercom was recording these images.

"Their target is the child!" Kai Lan suddenly shouted. I turned around and saw SUSAN standing next to the refrigerator. The burns under her sunglasses were particularly obvious in the golden light. She was holding a familiar metal box in her hand - it was the first generation controller core of Professor Kai's laboratory. Half of her tattoo was exposed under her suit, and seven small dots surrounded the laboratory coordinates, each of which corresponded to the sausages, rice balls, and oden on the shelves. "This is the energy node hidden by Professor Kai," she said as she threw the controller, "Remember he always said that hot soup can warm up the code?" "Go!" SUSAN threw the controller to me, and her fingertips drew sparks on the glass of the convenience store, "Use your heartbeat! Just like the posture of swinging a metal stick when you were seven years old!" I suddenly remembered the touch of the snowy night. The moment I held the controller tightly, all the sausage machines beeped at the same time, and the frequency was exactly the same as my heartbeat at the moment. Kai Lan touched the new words on the inside of the powder box cover: "Oden seasoning packet... Dad often said that it was his last experimental record." The lights of the convenience store suddenly surged, and the golden light of the baby resonated with the controller, casting a huge "Eye of Eros" on the ceiling - but the center was not a cold code, but a pattern made up of countless small sun sticky notes. The electromagnetic guns of the cleaners "clanged" to the ground, and the bullet screen on the lens changed to: [Real heart rate detected, the cleaning program terminated]. Only then did I see clearly that the arrangement of the sticky notes was the core matrix of the first-generation system.

The sirens of fire trucks were heard in the distance, but they were no longer directed at us. The sound of Zhang Ge's electric car came from the back alley. On the "Eye of Eros" bracket welded on the back seat, the welding points were arranged into "0927" - Kailan's birthday. Wang Mengmeng got out of the car holding the child. The mark on the baby's wrist was facing the hollow part of the bracket, where half of the metal stick fragment engraved with "Protect the Third Generation" was hidden.

"It's time to give the child a name." Kailan touched the sticky note on the incubator, and the baby suddenly smiled at me. The light spot on the palm of his hand fell on the small sun on the back of my work card. "Let's call it Nuannuan, like grilled sausages, like rice balls, like all warm heartbeats." When she spoke, SUSAN was stuffing things into the interlayer of the incubator with her back turned, and the sound of metal collision was as light as a sigh.

The phone vibrates in my trouser pocket. It's not a system notification, but a new order: "Yangguang Community Building 3, Kailan, needs delivery - the first hot code in Nuannuan's life, ingredients: roasted sausage, heartbeat, and trust that never cools down." The order address reminds me of Wang Mengmeng's husband's work badge "03", and the font color of the delivery note is exactly the same as the YSL03 color of SUSAN powder.

SUSAN leaned against the shelf and watched us clean up the mess. When she turned around, the tattoo on her lower back was fully revealed - seven nodes surrounded the laboratory coordinates, which were exactly the seven kinds of steaming food on the shelf. "Professor Kai said that when all the nodes are hot," she touched the gear of the sausage roaster, "the system will hear the human heartbeat." No one saw the silver light flashing at her fingertips. It was the "03" gear stuffed into the interlayer, which was gently resonating with the mark on Nuannuan's wrist.
