Chapter 4 - Disappointment

Lar looked at the sky, pondering how they had managed to survive.

"Wouldn't hurt, the illusion disappeared after shengwu's death. Let's drag his body with us, maybe we'll earn some money."

"We could, but do you think we'll drag him easily? I'm not going carrying that beast by myself." Sera looked at him.

When Lar rested and stood up, they dragged Shengwu's body with them. Somewhere in the middle of the road, Lar and Sera took another rest and lay in the grass.

"Sera, tell me about your family, if you have one, of course. Well, after 500 years of war, few people have families left."

"I wouldn't say I need my family; they feel like strangers to me, so, with or without them, it's all the same."

"And my family... I don't remember them, to be honest. Layla became my mother about five years ago, so, shall we go on?"

Sera sighed heavily and stood up. They both grabbed the rope around shengwu's neck and began to pull. When the diner was in sight, they collapsed to the ground.

"Lar, I'm not doing this again, ever."

"Oh, stop grumbling, we're almost there."

Lar laughed, covered in sweat. He was tired but happy. Layla approached them, her eyes widening when she saw them.

"God, what happened to you?! Lar, what's that blood on your hands?! And what is Shengwu's body doing here?"

"Lady Layla, we were in the forest, and a shengwu attacked us, but we killed it. Can you imagine?"

"Hard to believe... But I'm glad you're safe, but honestly, tell me, what is shengwu doing here?"

"We don't know ourselves, do we, Sera?"

Sera simply nodded in confirmation. He stood up, wiping sweat from his face, looking into the forest and at the bloody trail they had left while dragging shengwu's body.

"Layla, who are you and what do you want from me?"

Layla was surprised and replied, "Perhaps later?"

"Answer me."

"Alright, I'm Layla. I used to be a priestess in Rondon's army, and this place is meant to help various people, well, a relief point or something like that, and now I manage this place to help others."

"I don't believe it, but since nothing bad has happened to me in these two days, I'll stay here for a while longer."

Lar walked over to Sera and put a hand on his shoulder. Layla looked at them.

"And why did you drag Shengwu's body here?"

"Huh?" Lar looked at the old woman, then continued. "Well, I thought it could be sold there... Something like that."

Layla sighed and then looked at them.

"Shengwu are valuable only for their soul core because they're like illusion cores. How do you plan to extract it?"

Sera's yellow eyes gleamed, and his face darkened as he heard that.

"Lar... Why did we drag him here? Won't you tell me?"

"I didn't know it would be like this..."

"Maybe you have a special skill to extract its soul core or special knowledge? And even if you did... Then why did I drag this? Honestly, if I had the strength, I'd kill you right now."
