Matthew was taken to the ambulance, and Richard went with him to the hospital. He handled everything there for Matthew, paying all potential medical costs upfront. Richard didn't leave until Matthew's father, Jack, arrived.
There was no conflict between them. Even though Jack knew his son's injury was caused by the kid named Clark, he showed no anger.
The person in front of him was from the Parker family of Parker Biotech, not someone an underground boxer like him could mess with.
While it sounds unambitious, Jack was exhausted just trying to survive and ensure Matthew got a proper education. How could he have the energy to argue with the Parker family about who was right or wrong? Besides, Richard had already paid the medical expenses in full.
He'd done his best, and Jack had no reason to be angry. Despite feeling heartbroken about his son's injuries, he had no right to express his anger. Wasn't that a kind of sadness?
Richard saw this clearly but offered no further explanation. The moment Parker's company became a huge success, their family had unknowingly created a gap between themselves and ordinary people. This gap couldn't be erased by their family simply remaining kind.
No matter how friendly they were or how well they treated others, the wealth they represented would make ordinary people subconsciously see them as superior. Given this gap, the best way to deal with Jack was to say nothing, just greet him and leave. Extra kindness would only make others think he was being fake.
When Richard arrived at the school, Benjamin had already picked up Clark, but the shocking burns on Benjamin's right hand made Richard's eyes tremble. It seemed his nephew's power was far beyond his imagination.
"Let's go to the company first," Richard said, waving off the driver and getting into the driver's seat himself.
"That..." Benjamin wanted to go straight home. Clark's mood was very unstable, and it would be better for him to be with his family. But Richard knew what his brother was thinking. Before Benjamin could even speak, Richard refused.
"I know what you're thinking, but it's pointless. The company has a new drug for burns. You can't just ignore this. Besides, have you forgotten? Clark is smart. He won't want to watch his father stay hurt."
Hearing this, Benjamin looked at Clark, and Clark nodded. He agreed with Richard. He felt guilty enough for hurting Matthew and his father because of his own actions. If his father's wound wasn't treated and got worse because of him, he would truly feel like dying.
"Really? Then let's go to the company."
When they arrived at the company, Clark was left alone in the office. Richard and Benjamin didn't ask anyone to look after Clark. The main reason was that Clark wasn't as fragile as he seemed, and after what had happened, leaving him alone might be a better choice.
Clark was very quiet, just sitting on the sofa in the office, lost in thought. Meanwhile, Richard had taken Benjamin to the laboratory for initial treatment with the latest drug. Benjamin's injuries were still very serious. The skin on his right palm had almost completely peeled off, and the flesh underneath looked somewhat roasted.
If Clark hadn't been there, Benjamin wouldn't have wanted to upset him, otherwise he would have definitely cried out in pain.
After the initial treatment, the two still didn't leave the laboratory to find Clark. Instead, they looked at each other in the lab. When the researchers around saw this, they consciously left the laboratory as if it were a common occurrence. Similar situations had happened more than once; the two bosses always wore this expression before an argument.
"If you want to research Clark's body, I hope you'll drop that idea, Richard."
They were brothers, and in a way, they understood each other perfectly. Just as Richard was willing to bring Benjamin along to start a company for Clark's future out of love for Clark, if Richard showed even a hint of his thoughts, Benjamin could guess what he was thinking.
"But only by fully understanding Clark's body can we help him better!" Richard had his own reasons. Compared to Benjamin, he had been a researcher longer and naturally felt that only a complete understanding of the situation could best help Clark.
But Benjamin, with more social experience, had a different opinion. "Clark doesn't need help. I believe he can handle everything. What we need is guidance, not interference. Besides, Clark's power is definitely not that simple. He will definitely become stronger!"
Ben's expression was very serious. During the time he lived as an ordinary person, he had set aside the advanced knowledge he learned. Because of this, he could now look at the world with a wise heart.
"The secrets within Clark's body are like Pandora's Box. It must not be opened. I believe you're doing this for Clark's good, but this is also opening an absolutely wrong path. It will bring disaster sooner or later."
Ben knew very well that Clark couldn't keep his secret forever, so he must not allow research into his body's forbidden aspects. Otherwise, in the future, Richard's small research data might put all of them in a vulnerable position. Instead, by allowing Clark to choose his own path and providing support only when necessary, they could always remain in control. Simply put, Benjamin trusted Clark's own choices more, while Richard hoped he could help Clark face the future in his own way. The same good intentions, but completely opposite choices made by the two brothers.
In the end, Richard chose to back down. "I see. You are right. Clark is a smart man. He will definitely make the right choice. As a family, we just need to support him."
Benjamin nodded. It was best if he could convince his brother. As a family, avoiding conflicts was most important.
But did Richard truly give up? No one knows, and perhaps only he himself holds the answer.
