Chapter 2 - Chapter 2. A Stereotypical SS-rank.

Rin stood in wait for the incoming attack. In a moment Les reappeared in front of him with his fist drawn back ready to deal a swing at him. As a C-ranker, Rin couldn't even begin to hope to dodge such an attack however he had learned a special way to even the playing field with high rankers. Pay to win. Essentially, no matter what kind of abilities he has and what grade they are, they will never match up to a high-rankers raw strength, with his body's constitution it'd be like an egg hitting a brick wall. But if he were to add high class items into the mix, he actually stands a chance. He unraveled the chain from around his wrist while activating his speed ability. He wrapped the chain around Les's waist to tug him back as he ducked under the arm Les had swung to move behind him. He then released the chains causing them to fly back to him and float around him in a defensive circle. Les, seeing his path through the footprints left behind, whirled around to try again. This time, when the punch came Rin immediately ducked and wrapped his chains around his fists and used his ability to jump up in the air and deal a blow straight up into his jaw, the chains adding a bite to the blow. Les stumbled backwards and shook his head from the shock, feeling slightly dizzy. When he refocused, Rin was gone, he glanced around in search of the glowing footprints that Rin would leave behind but he couldn't spot any.

Rin's main Weapon: The Chains of Hades (S-rank) - rumored to have once been part of the Greek god of the Underworlds arsenal. Now once they find an owner they follow their every command and are mentally linked with the owner. These chains can move through the air on their own and can conduct electricity under certain conditions. However the chains will only follow the orders of someone who who has ##### # #### ## ### #### ####### (This information is blocked for the privacy of the weapon's owner.)

Before he could get his bearings Rin came at him again, seemingly out of nowhere, with a strong kick to the back of his head backed up by his chains. "Come on, surely you can land a hit on me." Rin said with a smirk. Les spun around only to be staring into an empty forest, he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "What? Can't use my footprints to track me anymore?" Rin came out of nowhere again, coming up behind him and going for another blow but Les was prepared this time, he brought an elbow up and spun to hit Rin. Using a combination of his speed skill and blocking with his chain, he was able to lessen the blow slightly but because it was an SS-rank he was still thrown off his feet and into the mud. He groaned slightly and lifted his now mud covered face but he was barely given a chance to recover as Les was on top of him leaning down to punch him into the earth. "Shit, didn't even let me finish explaining." He wrapped his chain around his foot and pulled himself out of the way, springing to his feet as Les's punch landed in the mud, causing the ground under them to shake from the power.

"You didn't have to try to hit me that hard!" Rin darted behind him and jumped on his back, wrapping his chains around his neck and tightening them. "Just go to sleep. You are too worked up for me to deal with right now." Les tried to throw him off but every time he moved the chains would get tighter. He reached around and tried to hit Rin throwing hits and trying to punch him but Rin held on in an attempt to divert his attention away from the chain around his throat. After a bit more thrashing, the attacks slowed down and became more sluggish as Les wobbled, trying to stay upright. Les took a few wobbly steps before crashing forward into the earth, passed out. Rin held him like that for a few moments longer before he was sure he had taken him down. Once he was sure he took a breath and got off him, sitting down in the mud nearby to catch his breath. "Something really is wrong with this dungeon." He mumbled to himself before laying on his back to take a break.

Les woke up feeling clear headed despite the dull throbbing in the back of his skull and the rawness in his throat. He smelled smoke and heard the faint crackling of a fire that drew him back to reality as he bolted upright. "Morning sleeping beauty. How was your coma?" Les immediately went to draw his sword but found it wasn't resting in the holster around his waist, he glanced to the short, black haired man who was sitting near the fire, using his sword to prod at the burning logs.

"That's my sword. It isn't a fire poker." Les stated, glowering at the man who met him with such an attitude despite them never meeting. The man glanced up at Les, his bright green eyes seemingly shining in the dark. He was wearing tight black clothing with several fasteners and harnesses that didn't seem to suit his appearance along with having something resembling a plague doctors mask dangling from his neck on a leather fastener.

"Oh." Rin glanced down at the sword in his hand acting as if he hadn't noticed it was an S-rank weapon before continuing to poke at the fire. "Figured it'd be better to take it away from you, considering how good your manners were when meeting your rescuer." He indicated to a large bruise marking the side of his face, inadvertently showing off the long cut up his arm that seemed to be from skidding across the ground. He stood up, dusting off the imaginary dust on his pants before glancing over at Les. "Seems you are feeling better given that you are actually talking. Now care to explain what kind of a death dungeon I walked into."

"Before I explain that, who are you?" Les asked, standing up and snatching his sword out of Rin's hand, inspecting it for any damage. Rin watched him with a bored expression seemingly already fed up with the person in his presence.

"I'm pretty sure I'm more famous than you Mr. Flower. Take a guess at who I am."

Les turned around to glare at him, a snarl forming on his face as he towered over Rin's lounging figure. "It's Fowler. Les Fowler. Who do you are? Stop dancing around it and identify yourself. We're in a dungeon, act professionally."

Rin held back a cough as his throat was constricted by Les's presence. That was Rin's least favorite things about high rankers apart from their high and might attitude. High rankers had an aura that other people found oppressive, while Rin could withstand it a bit better thanks to his high level skills, he could only imagine how bad it was for normal people. "I am acting professionally. I got a beating from you so I'm taking my revenge this way. Now, mind toning down your aura or are you trying to choke me out because if its the second I won't hesitate to put you to sleep again and this time I'll bury you."

Les seemed a little taken aback but then something seemed to click for him. "You are Rin Haze. C-class and well known tracker hunter." The pressure was removed from Rin's throat almost instantly. "Sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'd have been much more careful." There was a slight scorn in his tone but he seemed to be backing down from the fight considering that he took a step back.

Rin glared at him as he took a step back, rubbing his throat. "Relax, while I may be considered a death omen by most by most people I won't curse you just by standing in proximity to you. I'd need to put a hex on you to do that." Rin was quite aware of his reputation. He was only ever called if something went terribly wrong in a dungeon and over time his name became synonymous with death and accidents making people avoid him. Rin stared at the man who fit the perfect description of a stereotypical S-ranker. Tall and well built with short neatly cut hair and a strong unblemished face. Not to forget the egotistical attitude to boot. Rin thought that he was good looking but had a shitty personality but he brushed past this in favor of getting his job done. "Anyway, now that we've done class introductions mind explaining what happened."

Les seemed to stiffen a little, his mouth tightening which was quite a sight for Rin. "I'm not too sure. When we entered, it seemed fine. It was going the same as every other time but after a while I noticed that there was no monsters around and I'd cleared this dungeon enough times to know how it was structured. The land kept shifting and changing, I couldn't find my way around. That was all I really remembered, after that it was like I fell asleep."

Rin tapped his bottom lip, thinking through the situation. "I believe there is a high grade monster in here, at least SS-grade."

Les's eyes widened, "Do you really think so? But there aren't any recorded cases of such high grade monsters even existing."

"Unless you are going around masquerading as an SS-grade what other monster would be able to put you under hypnosis." Rin commented, fixing his mask on his face and inhaling the smell of the flowers and herbs stuffed inside. The smell of his surroundings was making him dizzy and he didn't have to use his ability anymore so it would be fine to keep it on. "Things are starting to make sense." He stated, his smile hidden by his mask.

"Care to share what 'makes sense?'" Les asked, raising an eyebrow while glancing curiously at the mask fixed to Rin's face.

Rin's eyes crinkled indicating the grin under his mask. "And spoil the surprise? Why would I do that? I've got to have at least a little bit of fun in here. Besides all you need to do there is to stand by and look pretty."

Les glared at him, "I'm stronger than you, if anyone is fighting its going to be me."

Rin smirked and spun around, starting to walk away. "If that's what you really want but I prefer if you just stand there and watch me work." Les watched him walk away for a few moments before realizing he wasn't walking back. So he sighed and reluctantly followed him.
