Chapter 4 - Chaos

Scene : 1 (at the library)

It was too quiet. The kind of quiet that made every page turn feel like a crime.

Jack sat across from me, headphones in but not playing anything. I could tell — he hadn't blinked in a full minute, just staring through the window like he was waiting for something to crash.

My untouched matcha sat beside me, going warm. I hated it. I always did. But I ordered it anyway, like a ritual I didn't know how to stop.

Then, softly—

Jack:" You always order that... but never drink it."

My pen stopped moving.

He was watching?

Jini:" Maybe I like the color."

Jack:" You don't."

I glanced up, half-annoyed, half... something else.

His voice wasn't mocking. Just... stating.

Jini:" So what if I don't?"

Jack:" Then why keep pretending?"

I shrugged, trying to focus on my notes.

Jini:" Maybe pretending is easier th

an explaining."

Jack:" You act like you're used to being alone."

Jini: (quietly)"Guess I got good at it."

Jack:"You have a brother, right?"

Jini:"Yeah. Jin."

I forced a smile.

"He's... intense. We don't really talk much these days."

Scene 2 ( Mocha and Matters)

I stood up without a word and walked out of the library.

When I came back ten minutes later, I dropped a new cup onto the table — the smell of mocha rising like comfort.

Jack looked at it, then at me.

Jack:

"Finally gave up on the green stuff?"

I smirked.

Jini:

"Maybe I got tired of pretending."

We sat in silence — the good kind this time. The kind that doesn't feel like pressure.

That was when it happened.

Someone burst through the library doors — loud, dramatic.

Student A (grinning):"Wait, wait — are Cherry and Jin a thing now?! It's blowing up on Instagram!"

My head snapped up.

Jini:"What?"

Cherry's voice came from the back, panicked but trying to sound cool.

Cherry:"W-What? That's fake—someone edited that—"

Student B (laughing):"Girl, your hand is literally in his. And your caption was 'mine.'"

The room buzzed.

Jin's face stayed unreadable, but his ears went pink. Cherry looked like she wanted to punch someone and pose for a p

hoto at the same time.

Jack and I exchanged a look — the first real one since this whole day started.

But before I could say anything, someone from across the room whispered too loud:

Student C:"Wait... is that Jack and Jini?"

My heart froze.

Student C (smirking):"Check this — they've been sitting together for like 40 minutes. She even brought him coffee. Is this a double couple plot twist?!"

Click. Click.

Two camera shutters. Not loud, but enough.

I turned fast, but it was too late. A girl near the door smiled at her screen, already typing.

Jini (thinking):Please don't tag me.

Jack didn't react. He just picked up his phone and stared at the black screen like he saw this coming a mile away.

And me? I just stared at my mocha.

I liked it.

But I didn't like this.
