Chapter 2 - The Beginning of the Final Destiny

Today is the meeting at headquarters — the beginning of my final destiny.

I woke up early, anxious... or maybe restless.

Brushed my teeth.

Lit my daily cigar.

Waking up and taking a drag made me feel alive. Almost as much as killing vampires.

"Ahhhh... this is so good."

I went to the window.

Opened it slowly.

The emptiness outside... There was no one. No cars. No people. Only nothing remained.

I sat down and started to smoke.

The wind hit my face... As if warning me of something.

Perhaps about my destiny.

But what awaited me? It was the last hunt.

And after that?

What would remain?

Emptiness.

After finishing what I was doing, I went back inside. And looked at myself in the mirror.

Black hair.

Tired eyes.

That was what I saw.

What I am.

My being.

I got ready in just a few seconds. Grabbed my things. And headed straight to the place.

It's now...

The moment...

No hesitation.

No thinking.

No nonsense.

I can't deny it.

The final hunt awaits me.

Something is calling me...

I felt as if it was calling me, and it wasn't just a sensation — it was a conviction. A certainty that destiny was calling me.

Every step was a path walked toward the call. I was being drawn like metal to a magnet. And in this case, I was the metal.

Maybe... there's no turning back.

Because when the magnet breaks, the metal never returns to what it was.

Just like today... after this, I will be a hunter with no "Hunt".

When it's all over, I'll retire and live in a fancy house — smoking cigars all day long.

All I think about is being pampered all day, with maids and butlers taking care of me — it must be better than hunting vampires.

I arrived — I wasn't in a good mood, quite the opposite, rather unfriendly.

I wanted distance from them. Focusing on the mission was my only goal.

— "Hey, Rin-san," Naoya called me.

— "Hey, Naoya," I answered hesitantly.

I answered like that to try and discourage him from talking to me.

It was already a pain talking to him yesterday. Today would be no different.

— "Are you ready to become the Hunter without a 'Hunt'?" — the boy asked me philosophically.

— "Probably... only the final destiny knows."

I took a deep breath and lit my cigar.

It had become an addiction, taking a drag from it.

Then a loud voice, coming from the center of the courtyard, called us.

— "All soldiers, pay attention!"

It was the new commander of Headquarters.

We didn't know much about him — only that he was strict and annoying.

— "You are all here to kill and hunt the last vampire... or vampiress.

So I ask you!"

I thought it would be a silly question, like: "Are you ready?" or "Feeling good to go?"

— "Are you prepared to abandon everything you know?

What you believe in?

Your convictions?"

I wasn't expecting that.

— "We will dive together into this world of the hunt.

So I ask of you:

Give your lives for your comrades.

Cry.

Give your blood.

Your sweat."

I thought this type of questioning was strange — they had never done anything like this before.

What do I believe in? Killing vampires.

My conviction? Killing vampires.

All that I know? I know nothing. I'm a fool. But one thing I'm sure of: I want to exterminate them!

Everyone remained silent.

Until...

— Clap, clap, clap.

The sound of clapping broke the void that followed the speech.

"That's it, captain!" "Good one, captain!" — they praised him for the speech.

Naoya came closer again.

— "I have some important information, Rin."

— "What?" — I murmured ironically.

— "Someone among us... is the vampire or vampiress..."
