September 952
"Sire!" A young squire called from across the battlefield, now littered with the lifeless bodies of knights and rogues. The young man's purpose, to deliver a notice from the war room. Huffing and panting as he did along the way, passing the Knight Healers as they assisted the injured, while certain knights appeared to be finally awakening from the previous throes of war. When he finally reached the side of a Knight clad in heavy armour. "Sire?" his voice came again, this time the distinction between what he was speaking could be distinguished from his huffing caused by shortness of breath.
The knight seemed to be off in a faraway land. The heavy armour in disarrangement from battle. The blood that trickled from his open wounds could be seen as it found an escape from underneath his chainmail. His face remaining covered by his helmet, the ruminations of the previous events still visible on his protective Armor, still stained with dirt and the blood of those he had killed in battle. His body seemed to move mechanically as it turned towards the squire next to him.
His eyes turned slowly away from the distance to meet the Squire's slightly petrified gaze. The aura of war and death conveyed through the knight's piercing dark gaze made the younger man take a shaking step back. "Sire Roland," the squire's immature voice pronounced the knight's name and seemed to crack at the end, making the young man blush with embarrassment. He cleared his throat, straightened his back trying to make himself taller and his right hand stretched out to release the message he was ordered to deliver. Sir Roland raised his left hand that held his sword and sheathed it onto his right side's waist grip.
He reaches out taking the message in his blood-stained hand and unrolling it to reveal what was inside.
The battle between the two forces had started not but four moons ago. The Royal Court had secured written decree by the King to send over knights from the surrounding garrisons. The brave knights set out to the afflicted area. On route to the destination from the five teams only two were able to reach and assist. The remaining three were ambushed on the road and did not survive. Scouts sent to find their whereabouts only returned with news of dead they buried. To say the least would be an understatement. As it was crystal clear to the Knight Commanders that their men were being led to slaughter. The first mission to the region was a complete and utter disaster. Their men would not be enough to guard the rebels that appeared to have spread to the surrounding villages as they laid waste to all in their path.
Messengers were sent to the capital immediately. The Court of Lords had debated the efforts of the Royal Court to no end. His Majesty had then decided to the disapproval of the two of three Royal Courts to send troops from the Capital. The Royal Court of Ladies had suggested of sending 100 brave knights to end the incessant scourge happening on their lands before it spread to other nearby towns and villages.
His majesty ordered for a list of all eligible personal to be drafted and finalised by the House of War. The final list included brave daughters and sons from noble houses and those who became knights to protect their beloved kingdom. Their team of 70 men ,30 women and 10 squires all between sixteen and eighteen. Five Sires and Six Dames all ranked Knight Banneret. The Honourable Sir Robin, Knight General and Honoured Dame Ǣȩth Knight Commander drafted themselves in to once again bring peace to the realm. An additional team of 27 Knight Healers was also included to ease the pressure on those sent before if they had not already perished under the enemies' cold blades. After approval and receiving the King's Seal the men and women where informed of their call to bring peace to their realm once again after nearly two decades of peace. Priests and Priestess blessed the knights headed to war. One hundred and Fifty men and women left the capital to the hearty cheers of their countrymen. Young maidens called out to them and tossing flowers and embroidered handkerchiefs.
The farewells were heartfelt with uncertainty in the hearts of those left at home. Whispered in the depths of the heart, "Return soon." The grand army set out to the battlefield. Destiney has marked them in blood.
Though ridges and rivers the team arrived at Řynar. The once peaceful region transformed into a mass grave. The vultures that circled the decaying bodies where now merely hoping their dinner would not disappear with the arrival of the new humans. With such a massive death toll any who lived turned to slaves for slaughter or had fled to safety. The village was very quiet. A large church stood mighty and towering to the east of the village. The livestock they brought in would need to be safe guarded along with the food supplies they had. Scouts had been sent ahead and had already reported of no enemy sign nearby. Knight Commander Dame Ǣȩth as the Highest-ranking knight took control of the operation along with Knight General Sir Robin. After taking command and having the information they needed a new battle strategy was issued. The ruffians had stationed themselves in one village. This would make their next plan of action easier.
Dame MaryⅡ would lead her banner of Knights around the battle that ensued and attack from the rear. Her assault had indeed been very crucial to the early confrontment. Sir Eadric had led the second front of assault however the brave knight was caught off guard as he fought one rouge from his fought and another sneaked an attack on his rear. Fortunately, Sir Roy was there to stop his near fatal attack.
The second bombardment by the rebels that were stationed in the surrounding forest and village were greatly outmatched by realms young and finest knights. Their full circle assault may have greatly benefited them in the beginning however soon enough knights would lay their lives down protecting the kingdom the
Sir Roland, a knight who was initially unrecognized, proved himself valiant in the art of extracting information about the enemy. At every opportunity, he would smuggle a rogue into their encampment and, under the watchful eye of Sir Beaumont, carry out interrogations on each one. Thanks in part to their team's efforts, the war for intelligence against the enemy was won quickly.
The young squire, Lucas, had delivered his message and waited as Sir Roland, standing before him, read the communication from central command, which was set up in a tent in front of the church. As he read the message, the air around him seemed to change from passive to that of a vengeful knight, intent on the blood of any man who entered his territory.
The letter was composed with great attention to detail, crafted in such a way that anyone who read it would struggle to take issue with its content. However, the author skillfully managed to convey his true intentions to Roland beneath the surface.
