Chapter 8 - CHAPTER EIGHT: Captives Fate

The creatures' chanting and dancing around the pot grew more frenzied, their voices rising to a fever pitch as they seemed to lose themselves in the ritual. Amina, Bisola, Mike, and TJ exchanged desperate glances, knowing they had to act fast if they wanted to escape the gruesome fate that awaited them. But their options seemed bleak - they were vastly outnumbered, and the creatures were clearly powerful and merciless. Mike's eyes darted to the object still clutched in his hand, his mind racing with possibilities. Could it be the key to their survival? TJ's eyes scanned the surroundings, searching for any weakness in the creatures' defenses. Amina and Bisola, meanwhile, seemed paralyzed with fear, their eyes fixed on the pot as Rotimi and Chichi's screams grew more agonized by the second.

The situation seemed hopelessly dire, with the captives entirely at the mercy of their ruthless captors. Yet, as they locked eyes, a spark of defiance ignited within them. Despite the overwhelming odds, they knew they would fight to the very end, refusing to surrender to the gruesome fate that loomed before them. The question hung precariously in the air: would their determination be enough to overcome the seemingly insurmountable forces arrayed against them? The answer, for now, remained shrouded in uncertainty, as the creatures' frenzied chanting reached a fever pitch, and the flames beneath the pot continued to roar.

The fire raged on, its intense heat causing Rotimi and Chichi's screams to grow weaker and more faint. The creatures' chanting and dancing reached a frenetic crescendo, their voices hoarse from shouting and their movements wild and uncoordinated. The king watched the scene unfold with a triumphant smile, his eyes gleaming with malevolent satisfaction. It seemed as though the end was inexorably near for the captives, their fate all but sealed. The air was heavy with the stench of burning flesh, and the captives' hopes of escape seemed to be dwindling by the second.

Just as all hope seemed lost, Mike's gaze fell upon the object in his hand, and a spark of determination ignited within him. He studied it intently, and a plan began to take shape in his mind. With a surge of adrenaline, Mike's thoughts racing with possibilities, he weighed his chances of success. Could he pull it off in time, or would it be too late? The fate of the captives, including Rotimi and Chichi, hung precariously in the balance, their lives teetering on the edge of disaster. The others watched Mike with a mix of desperation and expectation, their eyes locked on him as they waited with bated breath for what would happen next.

"Okay, take me and let the rest go, please," Mike pleaded, his voice laced with desperation. "I beg you, just take m—" But before he could finish, Mike's expression transformed, determination etched on his face as he stood tall to protect the others. "No, Mike, you don't have to do this," TJ interrupted, his voice firm but laced with sorrow. Amina and Bisola chimed in, their faces etched with deep anguish. "Yes, you don't have to. Together we live or die," they said in unison. Mike's resolve hardened. "I'm sorry, I have to. This way, you people can get out alive, rather than us all dying here." He insisted, his voice unwavering. TJ's eyes locked onto Mike's, a resolute look on his face. "If it's come to this, that one of us must die for the rest to survive, then let it be me," he said, his voice steady. He turned to Mike. "You have a wife and a daughter waiting for you to return. You," he pointed at Bisola, "have a daughter, a son, and an aged mother to take care of, all waiting for you. And you," he faced Amina, "I know how much Ahmed loves and dotes on you. His love is pure, and I can't let you break his heart by not returning to him." TJ's gaze swept over them once more before he continued, his voice heavy with conviction. "But for me? I have no one. No one is waiting for me. So, you see, it should be me.

Meanwhile, the creatures watched them like actors in a scene. The king finally caught their attention like a director wrapping up a scene. "Froooo," he said, and one of the creatures came forward. The king gestured, and the creature led Mike, Bisola, Amina, and TJ to another area. As they moved, the creatures surrounded them, their eyes fixed on the group with curiosity. The king then directed them to follow him, and they were led to another cave alongside the creatures.
