Chapter 76 - Echoes Beneath the White Tree

A heavy calm settled over the world after the clash of legends. The skies over the island slowly cleared, the remnants of celestial energy dispersing like the last whispers of a forgotten prayer. The bodies had been cleared, the injured tended to, and yet an uneasy silence lingered.

Zian sat beneath a twisted willow, her white hair draped like silk across her shoulders. Her golden eyes—once confused, once lost—now burned with purpose. She remembered. She had been the last loyal angel. She had failed the god she once served—but no longer. Now, she had power again. And she had allies. Shadow soldiers flickered faintly behind her, kneeling in the dusk.

Kaen stood at the cliff's edge, a place where the earth overlooked the endless sea. Behind him, the remaining students and faculty whispered stories of gods, angels, and dragons—but none of them truly understood.

None but Lirien, who sat not far from Kaen, arms folded, her crimson eyes narrowed. She was quiet. Still processing. Still adjusting to the truth of what she had become. Immortal. A vessel of void. A pact-bound warrior whose strength now rivaled gods.

Kaen's gaze drifted to the sky.

Far beyond mortal sight, in the deepest part of heaven—the place where gods once walked and fell—a white crow circled an ancient, gnarled tree. Its feathers shimmered like polished bone, and its eyes reflected knowledge that predated history. The crow landed upon the tree's lowest branch and whispered in a voice no mortal would ever hear:

"He has returned."

The white tree—silent, unmoving—loomed in response. It was not just a tree.

It was something more.

And Kaen, staring quietly through the veil of reality, simply smiled.

"Soon," he murmured.
