Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Fat Sheep

Chapter 8: Fat Sheep

Fifth day since the launch of the Reincarnation Game.

Most players remained enthusiastic, while a small number had already gone completely mad with obsession.

In particular, civilian players who had initially been scared quickly discovered that they wouldn't die in the game—and that they could purchase food and gold from the in-game store. Before long, their levels began to catch up with those of the shinobi players.

Lacking combat instincts, many of them simply traded their lives for kills—charging into monsters head-on.

Resurrection, of course, deducted reward points.

But since these artificial bodies had no real souls, no concept of death, they operated like precision machines. Break an arm? Reattach it. Lose your head? Mold a new one.

As such, Fang Yi's cost to repair them was negligible.

The enhancements from leveling up were bound to the soul itself, so even strengthening the artificial bodies required very little in terms of reward points.

On a bustling commercial street in the capital—

The silver-haired loli held a skewer of candied hawthorn and a bag of fried chicken chunks, her mouth covered in grease as she asked, "If resurrection costs points, won't that hurt player enthusiasm?"

A hand reached into the bag. She clamped it shut, but still couldn't stop the inevitable—the last chicken chunk was taken.

Fang Yi munched on the sauce-coated chicken and replied, "That's where you're wrong. Most players have already reached the threshold of becoming professionals. Even after deducting playtime fees, they can still make around fifty reward points a day."

"The ninja players? Even more insane. They're already all professionals. The points they earn from hunting corrupted monsters easily total several hundred a day."

He glanced at the bag's last chicken piece and said, "The resurrection fee is based on level. At their stage, it only costs five points per revive. Is that really expensive?"

Reality, after all, wasn't a game.

Eventually, they would have to face real-life battles with corruption sources.

Charging for resurrection helped prevent players from abusing the system—dying on purpose instead of improving their skills—and gave him a little extra income on the side.

The silver-haired loli, eyes quick as lightning, skipped using her hands and instead dunked her head straight into the bag, snatching the last chicken chunk with her mouth.

She nearly choked, pounding her flat chest as she coughed it down. Once she recovered, she asked, "But still, the instant revive costs ten times that—fifty points per use! That's outrageous!"

Fang Yi smirked. "I never said they had to use instant revival. Regular revival just sends them back to the Novice Village."

She gnawed on a candied hawthorn, confused. "Then what's the point of reviving on the spot?"

They walked over to a bustling stall where a large crowd had gathered. The loli curiously poked her head up to look, but she was too short to see anything.

Fang Yi grabbed her by the collar and lifted her up so she could see.

At the same time, he chuckled and said, "There are always special cases. Just think—if you run into a rare elite monster in the wild and you die, would you choose to return to the village?"

The loli thought about it, and instantly realized his sinister intent.

Fang Yi grinned wickedly. "Go back to the village, and by the time you get back, that elite monster might already be gone. Worse, maybe you spent your expensive healing potions and precious items to get it down to one hit point… Would you still want to run back?"

"Even worse—imagine you revive and return only to find some random passerby sniped the kill and took your loot. Can you bear that pain?"

"That's why I so considerately offered players the option of instant revive."

"I don't care about the points. What makes me happiest is the joy of being a merchant, watching players make these decisions completely of their own free will."

The silver-haired loli silently gave thanks that she was the World Will aligned with Fang Yi, and not one of the poor souls being exploited.

Otherwise, forget fried chicken and candied hawthorns—even her underwear would've been scammed away.

Amidst the crowd's annoyed stares, Fang Yi squeezed his way to the front with a shameless expression.

"I'll take number nine!"

A tall, mature woman with long golden hair and a well-endowed figure shouted enthusiastically.

A purple diamond-shaped mark adorned her smooth, pale forehead. Her glossy red lips added a layer of charm to her presence.

"Congratulations! Number nine contains… a minotaur clay figurine!"

The stall owner smashed the numbered jar. Inside was a finely crafted figurine of a bull-headed creature.

The woman took a deep breath and slammed her fist into the table, nearly breaking it in half.

"Another minotaur? I want the grand prize!"

Beside her, a short-haired woman holding a small piglet tugged at her sleeve and said, "Lady Tsunade, please stop gambling. If you spend all our hotel money, we'll be sleeping on the streets!"

Tsunade pouted, holding the minotaur in one hand and grumbling, "But I really want the Bunny-Teemo plush…"

She pointed toward an inconspicuous jar in the corner.

Just as she opened her mouth to claim it—

Fang Yi beat her to the punch.

"Congratulations! You've won the grand prize: Bunny Skin Teemo Plush!"

The atmosphere grew tense.

Tsunade turned, glaring at the young man who now held the snow-white plush toy in his hand—offering it to the little silver-haired girl beside him.

The crowd, having seen the prize revealed, began to disperse.

Tsunade gritted her teeth and shouted, "You! Stop right there!"

"Me?"

Fang Yi raised an eyebrow, pretending to be confused as he looked at the furious Tsunade.

He recognized her at a glance—this was none other than the famous kunoichi of the shinobi world, Princess Tsunade of the Hidden Leaf.

That's exactly why he had snatched the jar first.

He already knew it contained the prize she wanted.

This ceramic jar lottery was one of his business ventures in the capital.

In his second year after transmigrating into the Naruto world, with funds running low, he had written two novels inspired by League of Legends. They had become bestsellers in this entertainment-starved world.

Seizing the opportunity, he launched a line of plush toys and promised to buy back rare ones at high prices—pushing their market value through the roof.

A limited-edition Bunny Teemo plush could now fetch up to two million ryo.

Tsunade, who had already bought most of the jars and spent all her hotel money, could only watch as her two-million-ryo jackpot was stolen away.

No wonder she was furious.

"This jar was mine! You snatched it from me!"

Fang Yi simply smiled and replied, "Then it's yours."

He casually tossed the plush to her, noticing that the silver-haired loli wasn't interested.

Tsunade caught it, stunned. Whatever angry words she'd had ready were lost on her tongue.

This guy… wasn't following the script at all.

She'd just wanted to vent her anger with a few choice insults—not steal his prize. After all, she still had her pride. But he just… gave it to her?

Two million ryo—just like that?

Tsunade squinted, trying to figure out this guy's angle.

Blonde bombshells like her weren't exactly unpopular.

But Fang Yi wasn't interested in the obvious.

In his mind, her looks were secondary. What mattered most to him—as the master of the Reincarnation Game—was Tsunade's potential.

She had what it took to become an elite player.

Anyone capable of reaching Kage-level strength had outstanding combat instinct and soul power. Those were the ideal qualifications for top-tier players.

Meeting her like this was a pleasant surprise.

While mass recruitment had helped him gather points quickly and build a broad player base—

A great game needed more than quantity.

To conquer high-level dungeons and face final bosses, he needed elites—spearhead strike teams.

And Tsunade?

She had elite written all over her.
