Chapter Five: Bloodlines and Breakfast - Part 2
Sky groaned, rubbing his eyes. The status panel had given him a lot to think about, but one thing was clear: this world wasn't going to hand him anything. He'd need to earn it. Or seduce it.
Probably both.
He stood up, stretched until his spine popped, and muttered, "Alright, System. What's next?"
[Main Quest Activated: Wake the Hell Up]
[Objective: Go eat breakfast and figure out your next move. Reward: One step closer to not being a bottom-tier demon.]
Sky blinked. "...This is a real quest?"
[You're lucky I didn't title it 'Basic demon Functions for Dumbasses.']
He shook his head, grinning despite himself.
Making his way to the kitchen, he found Serena setting the table. The smell of eggs, toast, and something that definitely wasn't from Earth filled the air.
She turned with a smile. "Good morning, Sky."
"Morning," he said, sliding into the seat like he owned the world. "Smells like you're trying to seduce me with food."
She winked. "If that's what it takes to keep you strong, I'll make a feast every day."
He paused, realizing something. "Hey, System."
[Ugh. What now?]
"How come I can't see Serena's stats?"
[Because you're dumb as hell. Try using Inspect.]
Sky blinked. "...That's it?"
[Yes. Use the damn command.]
"Fine. Inspect Serena."
[INSPECTING...]
Name: Serena
Race: Demon (Variant – Enchantress Class)
Stage: ???
Level: ?????
Bloodline: Crimson Veil – Mid-Tier
Strength: ??
Agility: ??
Charm: ???
Special Trait: ???
Note: Yeah. She's been carrying you like luggage, bud.
Sky coughed. "Wait, she's that strong?!"
[You spooned with a woman who could solo a village.]
"...Hot."
Serena placed a plate in front of him, her movements elegant and hypnotic. "Eat up. We've got a lot to prepare for."
Sky raised an eyebrow. "Like what?"
Her face turned serious. "A lot. Now eat up."
He silently ate his food as she took a seat in front of him.
She looked at him and said in a soft voice, "So... you want to join a guild so you can get stronger? Since you don't have your bloodline power yet, you can't get into the academy."
"Oooh... I just awakened my bloodline," he said softly.
She looked shocked and stared into his eyes. Then she grabbed a knife and cut his finger.
"Ow! That hurt, Serena!" he said with a fake angry face.
She ignored his drama, took the blood, and used Inspect on it.
(His inner thought: She could've just used Inspect on me...)
[She can't, man. People can't inspect people here; some god made it a rule, but you are an exception. Other people can only be used on objects. That's why they use those big crystals in the academy.]
"Well... It's pure and powerful," she said with hope in her eyes. "I'm sure you'll get admitted this year."
After crying dramatically over the blood loss, Sky finally finished his food.
"I have money for the fees," she said, standing and picking up the plates. "But not for the dorm. You'll have to stay with me."
He stared at her for a while, then slowly walked up behind her as she stood at the sink. Gently, he hugged her from behind, his hands resting around her waist.
She paused for a moment, then continued to wash the plates silently. After a while, she turned around, facing him.
"I have to open the shop now," she said. "Come help me. It's the usual morning rush—healing potions, enchanted tonics, basic spell scrolls... You know, magical survival stuff."
Sky spent the next hour hauling crates of potions and stacking glowing bottles onto the shop shelves. Some bottles hummed with energy, others threatened to explode if shaken too hard. He arranged scrolls into organized piles while pretending to know what half of them did.
Serena gave him occasional glances—half amused, half impressed—as he tried not to drop a mana-infused keg that was heavier than it looked.
Finally, with the shelves stocked and the shop ready to open, Sky wiped the sweat off his brow.
"I'm heading to my room," he said, already walking. "I need a plan if I'm gonna survive this place."
Serena called after him, "Don't overthink it! Sometimes plans come after breakfast!"
Sky smirked. "Yeah, and sometimes they come while napping after heavy lifting."
He shut the door behind him, flopped onto his bed, and stared at the ceiling.
Now it was time to think.
About the academy. The guild. The power he needed. And maybe... the reason why the goddess chose him in the first place.
The academy entrance exam is in a week, so l have to find something to do.
