Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Not coming

Nate

As I stood by the gate, waiting for Alison, when she finally arrived, I was relieved and grateful. "I'm glad you came to collect me on my first day of school, Alison. It was heartwarming," I said, "but I wonder why you can't make it tomorrow."

Alison smiled, before ahead home. Moments after arriving home, I call out, "Ruby, can you prepare the meat on the stove for me while I change?" I asked my sister , Ruby. She sighed and placed the meat on the stove.

After changing, I joined Ruby in the kitchen to help with dinner preparations. At around 4:00 PM, there was a knock on the door. I wasn't expecting anyone, so I cautiously asked, "Who is it?"

"Open the door for me, Nate!" my mom called out from outside. I hadn't realized it was already time for her to return. After opening the door, I helped Ruby serve her dinner.

The next morning, as I was getting ready for school, I received a text from my friend Nick. "I'll be coming by today," he said. I was surprised but happy to hear from him.

When we arrived at school, most of my classmates hadn't arrived yet. Our first lesson was math, which I found exhausting and boring. Luckily, my friend Caine sat next to me and helped me catch up on the work I had missed.

During the lesson, I noticed two beautiful girls I hadn't seen before. I asked Caine and Dan who they were.

"Oh, those two," Dan and Caine said simultaneously. "The one in front is Tessa, and her best friend Ava, while the one behind is Cherry, and her best friend Noelle."

Caine smirked and asked, "Do you have a crush on one of them or something?" I replied, "Of course not, I just find them interesting." But as the lesson went on, I found myself captivated by Tessa's beauty and Cherry's charm.

After math, we had a joint class. I tried to focus on the lesson, but my eyes kept drifting towards Tessa. I noticed that Cherry, Caine, and Dan seemed to have an interesting friendship.

Before I knew it, the school day was over. As I walked down the stairs, I saw Nick standing with Dan. They knew each other from way back, before transferring to different schools. We chatted for a bit, and Nick reminded me that Valentine's Day was coming up.

"I totally forgot," I said. Nick replied, "I'm not surprised." I asked him what he meant, but he just smiled and said, "The most important thing is, what are you getting Alison?"

I hesitated, unsure of what to get her. Nick reassured me, "Don't worry, she'll appreciate anything you get her." I nodded, feeling a bit more confident.

As we parted ways, I heard a faint voice calling my name. "Nate!!" I turned around to see Alison running towards me. "I thought you weren't coming," I said, surprised. "Ain't you happy to see your girlfriend?" she asked, smiling.

I smiled back, feeling happy to see her. "Of course, I am. But I'm just surprised." She explained that she had seen me with Nick and decided to say hello. "See you on Friday, Nate," she said before running off to join her sister Jade.

As I continued walking home, I entered the house and called out to Ruby, "I'm home, Ruby. Did I take long?" Ruby replied with an upset tone, "You're late." I apologized, and she said, "Forget it. Everything's been prepared already. Let's wait for Mom to return."
