Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Change of Plans, Kingpin’s Shock

Bullseye hurled blade after blade, but Daredevil dodged every single one.

It shook his confidence.

Was it really that his enemies were too strong?

Or… had he grown weaker?

How could both of his targets today evade his attacks?

No, that wasn't it. That demon, Carl, hadn't dodged anything.

He'd caught blades from just two or three meters away…

And then shot red lasers from his eyes.

It was inhuman. Monstrous.

Meanwhile, Daredevil had been forced to stop shooting the smuggled cargo under Bullseye's relentless assault.

Thinking it over, he decided it was time to retreat.

Kingpin alone was already a handful, and now he had a knife-throwing lunatic on his side.

Sure, Daredevil had dodged every single blade…

But it had taken everything he had.

Bullseye's knives were fast and precise. Even for someone with Daredevil's senses, dodging required razor-sharp focus.

And once Kingpin got personally involved, escape would be far harder.

So Daredevil turned and began to run.

But suddenly, a huge shadow loomed overhead.

He looked up.

A mountain-like figure was now standing in his path.

"So it's you again… Daredevil."

Kingpin's voice was cold. His massive fist swung forward without warning.

Daredevil didn't try to block it head-on.

Instead, he swept his baton to the side, deflecting the force.

He had originally planned to flee.

But now that Kingpin himself had joined the fight, escape was no longer an option.

So he dove into the battle head-on.

Both men were expert fighters, their techniques swift and deadly.

Still, it was clear that Daredevil was at a disadvantage.

Even armed with his weapon, he struggled against Kingpin's bare fists.

A few solid hits from Kingpin were enough to leave him staggering.

Each punch carried the force to smash through concrete.

Had Daredevil not been superhumanly durable, he'd be dead already.

BAM!

Kingpin's fist crashed into Daredevil's baton, sending him staggering backward.

That was it. Time to go.

But before he could retreat,

Thunk! Thunk!

Two black projectiles embedded in his leg.

Throwing knives.

Bullseye.

He'd been watching closely.

He'd noticed Kingpin had landed a couple of blows to Daredevil's right leg earlier.

It was moving sluggishly now.

Kingpin noticed too.

He charged forward and grabbed Daredevil by the injured leg.

Before the hero could even react,

BAM!

With a thunderous crash, Kingpin slammed him into the ground.

Daredevil felt pain explode through his body.

He struck at Kingpin's arm with his baton, but the villain refused to let go.

This was no ordinary cane, it was a custom-built weapon, disguised as a blind man's tool.

Still,

BAM!

BAM!

BAM!

Again and again, Kingpin smashed Daredevil into the concrete.

The sheer brute force was overwhelming.

His entire body ached. His vision swam. His mind blurred.

Kingpin paused, seeing Daredevil go limp.

With his free hand, he drew a pistol.

"You've been a thorn in my side for far too long," he growled. "You've cost me dearly."

"Tonight… you die."

The cold steel pressed against Daredevil's temple.

His whole body trembled.

He wanted to resist, but the injuries were too much.

"Fool. You thought you could ruin our operation alone?"

Bullseye sneered, still bitter that his knives had missed.

Kingpin cocked the gun and pulled the trigger.

It was over.

Daredevil squeezed his eyes shut in despair.

He never imagined that a tip about smuggling would lead to his death.

BANG!

The shot rang out.

But the pain never came.

He opened his eyes,

And saw a man, standing beside him.

A man with jet-black hair and dark eyes, smiling calmly.

He was holding Kingpin's gun barrel with his bare hand.

Daredevil had never seen him before.

"Carl Smith?" Kingpin muttered in disbelief.

The man nodded casually. "That's me."

He hadn't expected such an entertaining turn of events tonight.

He glanced at Daredevil, and his expression shifted oddly.

Back in university, one of his ex-girlfriends, who also happened to still be one of his current girlfriends,

Was none other than Elektra, the female lead from the Daredevil movie.

Beautiful. Wild. Dangerous.

Seeing Daredevil now just made things… complicated.

Kingpin's face darkened.

"Carl. You dare stand in my way?"

"Don't think I won't put you down."

"Oh?"

Carl chuckled.

He was here tonight because of the bar incident.

If Kingpin wanted to buy his bar, then they needed to have a serious conversation.

"Die!" Kingpin roared, trying to yank his gun back.

But it wouldn't budge.

What?

Impossible.

Carl was half his size, no way he could overpower him.

Even Daredevil couldn't match Kingpin's strength.

So how…?

"Demon!" Bullseye shouted from a distance, recognizing Carl.

Without a second thought, he turned and ran.

"Not so fast."

Carl turned toward him.

His eyes began to glow red.

Twin beams of searing heat shot from his eyes, striking Bullseye squarely.

In a flash,

Bullseye disintegrated.

Not a trace remained.

Kingpin and Daredevil stood frozen in shock.

What did they just witness?

This man had literally shot lasers from his eyes and killed someone!

They had both fought countless battles.

Daredevil could sense heartbeats from miles away, arguably a form of superpower.

But this?

This was something else.

Kingpin snapped out of it.

He noticed something,

Carl was now holding something small and metallic in his hand.

A… bullet?

"You…"

He looked at Carl in disbelief.

He'd definitely pulled the trigger.

So where was the bullet?

No one was hurt…

Had Carl caught it?

Kingpin had always been confident in his strength.

Even when Bullseye told him Carl could move fast and shoot lasers, he had laughed it off.

That little rich boy?

Please. One punch and he'd be in a coma.

But now…

After seeing Carl melt a man and catch a bullet mid-air, he wanted no part of this.

Carl stared at him for a moment, then smiled again.

He had intended to deal with Kingpin permanently.

But seeing how terrified the man was now…

He changed his mind.

"So," he said, casually,

"I heard you want to buy my bar?"

"Uh…"

Kingpin broke into a cold sweat.

"That… was the plan…"

He had no idea what to say anymore.

"You rich?" Carl asked.

"…A bit."

"I'm rich too. You knew that, right?"

"…Yes."

Carl's smile widened.

"Well, I'm missing about ten billion dollars from my account recently."

"I think you can help me get it back. Don't you agree?"

Kingpin froze.

Ten billion?!

Was this blackmail?

No, this was daylight robbery.

Still…

What choice did he have?
