Chapter 12: March to Celestara
The shrine no longer wept. Its tears had dried in Kael's flame.
As the sky outside shifted from crimson dusk to void-black night, Vaeloria stood at the edge of the sanctum, robed in midnight silks that shimmered like forgotten stars. Her long hair flowed in ethereal strands, trailing faint glimmers of gold as she moved.
Kael, Selene, and Thalaria stood behind her, listening in silence.
"We walk a road lined with echoes," Vaeloria began, voice low, reverent. "Each step toward Celestara stirs the sleeping eyes of Heaven."
She raised her hand, drawing a swirling constellation map into the air with a flick of divine energy.
"There are three paths to reach the Vault of Light."
1. The Hollow Sky Route — through the abandoned monastery of Starbinders, guarded by spectral echoes and time distortions.
2. The Crimson Root Trail — deep beneath the earth, through the carcass of a forgotten celestial beast, now infested with warlocks.
3. The Glass Vale — exposed, straight, but watched by heavenly sentinels and blessed assassins.
"Each path carries a price. One tests your soul. One tests your will. One tests your blood."
Kael's eyes scanned the map. His instincts growled.
"We take the Hollow Sky. If time bends there, then maybe... we bend fate with it."
Vaeloria smiled faintly. "Good. You think like the Crown."

As they moved through moonlit fields, with constellations swirling above and nightwind in their hair, Kael found himself watching Vaeloria more intently. Her steps did not stir the grass. She no longer just followed — she led, and the land bent to her presence.
Selene leaned close.
"She's changing," she whispered. "Or returning to what she was."
Kael nodded.
"And if we free her... the gods will bleed."
His eyes lingered on Selene a moment longer than needed. "Though I'm not sure who I should be protecting from whom. You... or the world from you."
She smirked and looked away, but her ears flushed pink.
Later, as they camped beneath a starlit canopy, Kael moved between them all — teasing, touching, his charm ever-present.
He kissed Thalaria's hand, murmuring, "You wield a blade like you were born to conquer me. Luckily, I surrender only to the beautiful."
Vaeloria, watching from a distance, narrowed her eyes.
He walked toward her slowly.
"You burn like a sealed sun, priestess," he whispered. "But I wonder... how much of that fire will you show only me?"
"All of it," she said darkly. "Because I'll be the last one standing by your side... or over your ashes."
Kael grinned. He liked that answer more than he should.

On the second night, as the Hollow Sky drew nearer, the earth trembled with a distant roar. The group crested a hill and saw below a cataclysmic battle: two ancient beasts clashing in a crater lit by stormfire.
One was a colossal wyrm, its scales like obsidian lightning.
The other — a radiant, wounded creature. A female beast of moonlight fur and crystal horns. Clutched beneath her wing was a tiny cub — her child.
She fought like a goddess — but she was dying.
With one final shriek, she drove her claws into the wyrm's heart, impaling it. Both fell.
Silence.
Then — the cub crawled forward, crying in soft, musical whimpers.
Kael approached slowly, weapons down. The mother, barely alive, locked eyes with him.
And in that gaze, something passed.
She nudged the cub forward.
A final breath. Then she faded into stardust.
[ New Companion Acquired: Celestial Beast Cub — Unknown Breed. Soul-linked. Will grow in power alongside Kael. ]
Kael gathered the warm, trembling cub and looked back at his companions.
"We protect it. Like she did."
No one questioned him.
---
The road curved upward, stars overhead forming a path only sinners could walk. The Hollow Sky waited.
And beneath it, the truth — of crowns, betrayal, and the divine lies yet to be shattered.
